I did a micro coil as the second build I've ever done..I haven't returned to micros since. I had issues with hot spots ruining my cotton. Deffinitely doesn't seem like the healthiest way to vape

Absolutely need to dry burn a micro coil before inserting a cotton wick! It's no different than anodizing the wire mesh wick in a genesis atty.

Yes there could be problems created by dry burning (that is yet to be verified), but the potential problems caused by not dry burning far outweigh them.

I do believe that some here have mentioned their backgrounds in metallurgy, although I don't remember now who all they were. You would have to go back thru all this and try to find that info.

Missed my point, I've read or purposely skipped every post in this thread. I'm a ROCKET SCIENTIST, now that I've mentioned my background, do you want to hear my theories on time travel? :)

I think it's safe to say that the metallurgist Dr is prolly working, using his knowledge attained by obtaining a PhD right now but I fully expect him to weigh in when he gets a free moment. He definitely knows what he is talking about. Several in here do. I, unfortunately, am just a vaper :)

No disrespect to all the posters here, but how do we know anyone is a "metallurgist" here, or their qualifications and resume? Or any other claims of knowledge in this field or debate? Keep a open mind and don't take anything you read on the Internet at face value, including the doctors and self proclaimed experts. We would all like immediate answers, but the correct ones, are the only worth while ones, and they are seldom the quickest ones.
No disrespect to you, but how you can prove you are not an enthusiastic apologist for Dr. F? How you can prove you are not working on “damage control” childishly trying to discredit other posters? This thread lasted for so long only because Dr.F was not a man enough to acknowledge mistake, and because his apologists were continuously intervening with meaningless remarks.

    Sitting down, facing forward.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but like I've said previously, unless and until a controlled study is performed using actual equipment used in vaping as it exists today, we are all left to do our own research and draw our own conclusions. Bashing Dr. F, Pedro or anyone who has posted in this thread, either overtly or covertly, doesn't accomplish anything. As Joe Friday used to say "Just the facts, Ma'am."

Proof, easy, I've NEVER said a word supporting anything the doctor has said or published, just the opposite. Folks say they want proof from the doctor, studies, experiments, etc. And I agree. Therefore we should ask for proof of ANYONE making claims to their scientific background, no?

Accusing me me of "childishly trying to discredit other posters", questioning the doctors manhood, geez, this says more about you then I, what are you smoking/vaping, another reason I try to avoid threads that become public blogs. Blog on......

Maybe this thread has gone on too long? I think that until a certified metallurgist steps in with verifiable credentials to satisfy us all, if that's possible, we are all gonna go with what we think is best after having read thru what is here now.

We all come from different backgrounds, and bring different perspectives to the table. But in the end, as I stated before, it's in our best interest to pose any question to the proper scientists. Probably not a good idea to ask a cardiologist about advanced metallurgy, regardless of how good that cardiologist is.

So which Stellite is best suited for a knife blade?
Which Stellite is best suited for an exhaust valve?

I am an expert on Internet Experts. And while I cannot review the qualifications of a fellow ECF member, we can analyze Dr. F's qualifications and see what he is an expert in. ;)

    Yes, a way too long.

I do not think you can expect such a nice development. Metallurgists who are members of forum are enjoying their anonymity (which is common for public forums). As far as I know (from publications) there are no metallurgists in current e-cig research, so no help from this side. Invited metallurgist? But how will you know he is not an impersonator?

In this thread participated at least three metallurgists whose views on a problem were the same. Of course some ECF members have right to develop a conspiracy theory: these self-appointed metallurgists were appointed by ANTZ to discredit a good doctor. Nice theory and anybody have a right to believe in it. Or not to believe.

P.S. I am a closeted PhD in metallurgy (10+years), have masters in physics, now work at a university doing research in biomedical field (10+ years) – papers, h-index, etc.

I would. Especially if it has to do with Gravity.

BTW - Here are My Qualifications...

I considered Minoring in Forum Science when I was an Undergrad. But decided on Applied Chicanery instead.

Figured I could pick up Forum Science as I went. But Chicanery was something Best Learned in a Formal Instructional Setting.

I have received a response from Dr. Farsalino which noted that he did not recommend dry burning in his blog. He made no comment about statements in the radio interview. He asked me for any information that I would like to provide to him and I sent him my comments and links for his review and suggested that if he felt clarification of his statements was necessary the community would welcome them.

I lost my way half way through this thread - it was all so over my head. Please start a new thread for us poor folks who are total amateurs when the jury is in. Thanks

I think I can sum it up for you:
Dr. F made some pretty extreme remarks in a radio interview, but didn't provide any substantial evidence to back it up.
The vape community went crazy, because it involves pulsing/dry burning coils, something most of us do.
Some people with knowledge of metals questioned what he said.
Dr. F made a blog post saying that what he stated was an opinion/theory, that he has not verified scientifically yet, but says we "should" try to avoid unnecessary risks where possible.

That's about it. No confirmed harms from dry burning, as long as you're not inhaling while you're doing it, anything more than that we'll have to wait for some actual studies to be done.

Reading all of this thread... I'm still left wondering a few things. Glowing the coil even once supposedly makes this "dangerous" situation... But gee whiz. After the very first time a coil heats up while saturated with juice, it begins to get coated with (for lack of a better word) 'cooked' juice. And, really if your coil is glowing while vaping, you're doing something really wrong. It doesn't glow when saturated with juice (if it did, there would never be a need to dry burn to clean the coil). --- So, it seems to me it would be pretty tough to create a situation where any coil is in a state where the metal surface is exposed and able to release anything. Maybe the first drag after a new coil or the first drag after cleaning.... but after that, regardless of how the metal reacts with oxygen, it is already building up a layer of cooked juice. --->It's like smearing grease on an iron object. It can't react with oxygen any more because there is a barrier between it and the oxygen.
