I am getting a strong chemical taste from TFA RY4 Double mixed at 10% and steeped for a month - no caramel taste, no vanilla. Did I mix too high, or should I try the open cap thing?

I do mine at 8% with about 0.5% of AP. I make it for several people, and they all love it - try at 8, maybe? I've never had to leave the cap off, and I put it in the crockpot at 150 for 4 hours to fast steep it (it needs that imo to be ready in a few days - but you've already left it to steep, so that shoudn't make a difference).

Strange, I have seen several people mix at 10% and never mention a chemical taste. Could it be the difference in taste buds? I reduced it to 7%. Do I need to wait a few days before trying it?

The taste takes weeks to develop for me, which is why I stick it in a crockpot (or UC - whichever you have). And I only use it with AP, so it may be that the AP masks whatever you're tasting?

Just a thought - what ohms are you using? Are you using an rda?

For the first time tonight I put it in a Reo with an RM2 micro coil around 1.2 ohms (and cotton). Previousy I've always vaped it in a cartotank at 3.2 (voltage around 4.2-4.5) or a clearo. It tastes totally different in an rda - not the flavor I know and love at all!

I tested it with a 3 ohm 510 atomizer at 4.2 volts on an ego. I think the bottle was mislabeled because there is absolutely no taste or smell of vanilla/caramel - neither in the concentrate nor in the mixed bottle. Do you smell them in either one?

Yes, there's a distinct caramel smell in both.

Hi Amanda, I contacted RTS regarding the RY4D and they gave me a gift certificate. Is that where you got your RY4D?

No, I've bought before from Wizard Labs, but the last bottle (4 ounces) I bought directly from TFA for less than $8. You just sign up for a wholesale account (everyone can do this) and then you can get bulk pricing. If you just want 10 mls cheapest place is Wizard Labs.

Not to be a butthead, but it's 8 mls, not 10. 10 would be nice. =)

Cinnamon Red Hots: 5-10%, 5/5
Coconut Extra: ~10%, 5/5

Graham Cracker: 10-15%, 5/5 - This flavor recommended for combining with others.
Lime (oil-based): 1-5%, 4/5
Milk Chocolate: 20%, 4/5
Peanut Butter: 10-15%, 5/5
Pear: 10-15%, 4.5/5
Pizza: ~5%, 5/5
Plum: 5-10%, 4/5
Sweet Cream: 5-10%, 4/5 - This flavor recommended for combining with others.
Tangerine (oil-based): 1-5%, 5/5

So I'm new to DIY and haven't purchased anything as of yet. (I know probably not where I should ask but I find ecf a pain to operate on my phone) I was told to look at the flavor apprentice? I think it was. But when I go there it takes me to a perfume something and another? Is this right. I mean I don't want to smoke something that should be in perfume lol

Lol. Thank you. I thought it would be simple just add nic pg vg flavor(s) shake and vape. Lol. There seems to be more math involved than I though aha

Yep, in theory, that's all there is to it. But, we do go out of our way to make this a fun aspect of the hobby.

Start off reading this thread - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/561578-whoever-dies-most-flavors.html It's a little on the humorous side, but there is just a little too much truth in it...

There is a lot of knowledge within the postings in this DIY forum And, a whole lot of new friends that are willing to share and teach..

My advice: Before placing that first order, read, read, read...

Welcome aboard and good luck!!

There is math involved but it is simple math. If you wish to cut out all math involved then get a juice calculator, I highly suggest you use the "ejuice me up" calculator.

The reason we are so precise in DIY is because we are using nicotine and if you don't precisely measure all ingredients you could seriously harm yourself or someone else. We are also precise so that ourselves and others are able to replicate our successes.

If you need any help in your DIY endeavors then please feel free to ask for it. If the thread isn't an appropriate place to discuss it then feel free to PM

I knew there would be math lol. I just assumed it was as simple as take say 3 drops of nicotine if your choice add half pg half vg for 50/50 and drop as many flavor and or sweetener drops to taste. I looked at that pic a few posts ago of the juice me calculater and realized that you could take maybe 48mg nicotine and cut it to say 12 or 18 mg nicotine lol. Hence the more math involved. I'm a noob to the DIY and haven't fully decided on doing it yet. I want to but i do t want to spend the time trying to make something that doesn't taste as good when I could get something I have a crap shoot of liking while keeping our economy and someone employed lol.

Is there a known better quality pg or vg and nicotine and flavorings as to a lower known grade. I'm just worried I won't be able to replicate some super sweet desert flavors and I'll end up with a cheap tasting ejuice I made Leaving an odd after taste ugh. Lol. Or one of those bottles you buy from your favorite vendor that you love but this time it's all of a sudden super alcohol tasting lol
