I just tried making Bill's Pink Starburst yesterday and its quite good!! If I wanted to change the "flavor" can I just sub out the strawberry for lets say Juicy Peach?

-also what percentage should I be using sour at?
I have been for a couple of weeks now with watermelon. I tried single flavors for awhile and everyone is right they don't cut it on their own. I've got my list of the percentages I used for those as a reference, and basically look at the sweetener section as the "base" and add the main flavor on top of that. So far the watermelon starburst is pretty good subbing watermelon candy at 15%. I've still gotta try my grape and green apple now that I think about it..

Any thoughts on how to tweak it greatly appreciated.
I used this recipe:
Mango Custard
Mango 11%
Cotton Candy 7%
Vanilla Custard 6%
Bavarian Cream 6%
I almost feel like it needs more Mango so I added 1ml but not much difference
If you think the flavor is weak, try reducing the cotton candy ... it's just straight EM, and is known to reduce flavor

When trying single flavors, I usually give it some time to blend with the nic added.
In your case, I would give them 24 hours, and a good shake everytime you walked by or think about it.

Bill's "Twinkie" is good stuff.
I reduced the flavoring when I made it, because I knew it would "sit" awhile, which would improve it automatically.
It's one of the few recipes he only calls for 20% total flavoring, and I think I will make it with that total next time, just to see the difference.
It's very smooth, sweet and yummy, even though I didn't use the full % called for on the first batch.
I will keep the reduced version of the recipe to use in my Reos, as the Reo really brings out the flavor.
I may of "tweaked" the % , but it's already in my "keeper" file.

I liked Bills Twinkie recipe so much I made a 30 ml bottle of just flavoring to use in some of my recipes. 'specially my Vanilla custard :D

Twinkie flavoring 30 mls

Vanilla cupcake 12.6 mls
sweetener 3.6 mls
sweet cream 5.4 mls
bavarian cream 5.4 mls
3 mls pg

and for my Vanilla custard

12% vanilla custard
8% twinkie

sure makes it quick and easy to whip up a bottle of my favorite VC

I've wondered the same thing. I haven't tried this yet, but I have lots of really small bottles that I might have to mix a bit this weekend. Bill had responded to a similar post I'd made a while back, and he doesn't indicate a "magic proportion". I like the idea of 50-75% of "normal" recipes.

I figure with a 6ml bottle, I wouldn't be "wasting" - and if it's a bust, I can always bump to "normal" values and keep moving on....

Yeah... I was thinking if I could get the total flavorings down to 2/3 of their current level, that would be right around 20%, which isn't really bad at all; right now the strawberry & cream is 31% flavoring, and I *know* that's a big part of why it gunks so badly, and it might be why I continue to have problems with my asthma. I'm now into the 5% level for WTA, so I should be able to get by with less flavoring.

Just got a few FW (Flavor West) flavors.
Got most of the TFA flavors I want - like 30 of 'em.
Then moved to CAP - 10 now - a few more to go.
So now trying the several FW of interest.
Butter Pecan - really good! Gonna go well with Pralines & Cream and my nut mixes.
Snickers Type - haven't tried yet.
Wild Cherry - it's ok. (Only TFA cherry I see at BCV is Black Cherry. <- recs/info on this one?)

The State of Confusion
Thanks, but I'm not interested in mixing YET... I am holding back from that, trying single flavors. Starting low (2%) and working up to see where I actually like the flavor. It will be tedious, but I figure that's better than taking a fabulous recipe and finding out too late that there is one flavor in the Mix that I just don't like. Then maybe I'll try a few recipes. Question; when mixing fresh samples (ex: 4% Crème de Menthe), do you wait a day or two, or just load it up and try it ?

(although that Bill's Twinkie mix mentioned earlier seems like one to write down for later...)

PaPaw...

In regards to concocting single flavors:

Most of the TFA flavors are just that, "flavors", what many mistake for what we perceive when we "taste" something that "tastes like"....for instance, and they are just the single or core component of that "TASTE", not the actual perceived taste...

In other words when you go to the grocery store for ingredients to bake with there is Vanilla Extract, and there is Vanilla Flavor, they smell almost identical, but if you taste them the extract resembles more of the actual perceived vanilla flavor, that just the Vanilla Flavor if you taste it.

To get single flavors using TFA many times you will have to add "something", sometimes it is only sweetener, or something to make the mixture "Tart", so it is closer to what we perceive as the actual flavor when we taste something.

While being a bit more complex to get the desired end result, working with the "flavorings" is much more forgiving than for instance working with flavors from other vendors which actually resemble "extracts", as these concentrated flavors if you will can be much harder to make into a vapeable mixture.

Here is an example of a simple Peach vape I love called Peachy Menthol:

15% Peach
5% Juicy Peach
1-2% Menthol (more if desired)
Capella' Super Sweet if desired, 1 drop per 30ml

See the Peach by itself or the Juicy Peach by itself don't get it for me, so I combine the two, and again as we all mentioned so many times taste is so subjective.

For instance an Orange Cream needs a bit more orange added to make it really taste like orange. (to me).

Now then knowing you are a tobacco flavor fan I have to really bow out on that one as I am horrible in that area, but there are many here that are very good in that area...

You had also asked about steeping...most flavors should be vapeable as soon as they are mixed, if they are too something and need to set up for X amount of time, there is usually something too much or too little that needs adjusted...usually...note that word...again a very subjective topic...

I know it seems like a lot to absorb, but we are all here to help you!

Just ask away....:thumb:
