Wonder what the duties and taxes would be then. The prices from TFA for a 4oz bottle are about the same as what I pay for a 2oz bottle in Canada, and some flavors go even cheaper. I haven't had much experience with paying duties for passing the border, last time I had to was years ago when I had a friend from the states build a computer for me, they tore it apart at customs (I had to reconnect the drives and PSU), and then charged me roughly 15% of the total value of the computer. So if it comes down to paying 15% at the border, it would still be worth it.
I live in alberta and have not payed any extra ordering from TFA. And it was in my hands in 7 days.

I got some pg and vg from rtsvapes since I threw it in with some other equipment I ordered (that everyone else was out of - boro.beakers).When it arrived there was a paper that said cream-based flavorings have a 3-6 month shelf-life.

Do you guys find that to be accurate? If so I'm in trouble. I have a lot of them and it will certainly take me at least that long to use them (4oz bottles) and are probably at least 3 months old already...

... btw, Happy New Year! (I've been away getting into a new hobby now that I'm not spending nearly as much on vaping: flying multirotors :)

Yeah I just got that one in my order that arrived yesterday.

I think the thing is... when I've used the CAP Vanilla Custard v2 in ejuice, it's been accompanied by so many other flavors, it kinda overwhelmed the artificial taste; but in cocoa, which is very familiar to me both with and without added vanilla, the artificial taste was glaringly apparent with just 2 drops into a 9oz mug. I can probably keep using the VC v2 in recipes that have a lot of different, stronger flavors (like my strawberry recipe), but in a recipe that doesn't have many flavors, that artificial taste is going to stick out like a sore thumb. So I need to replace it.

I'm glad you mentioned that Andria. The Vanilla Custard I have is the Cap V2. At least if I don't like it, I will know that they all don't taste like that, and that I will probably need to use it with stronger flavors. I do have TFA Vanilla Swirl though. :)

I have some that are over a year old from tfa and taste fine. keep flavors out of direct light/heat and they last for years.

Yeah, I don't taste anything funky in my strawberry n cream mix, though I used 4% CAP Vanilla Custard v2 -- that INW Shisha Strawberry is very strong; all the creams really do is make it *shine* -- I also used TFA DX Bavarian Cream at 7%, and CAP Sweet Cream at 2%.

I have a question for you guys about a flavor substitution. I've found a recipe that sounds delicious on the planet of the vapes user-recipes area, but it called for Caramel flavoring -- which I don't have -- at 2%. I was wondering if you all think the TFA Brown Sugar Extra might be a reasonable substitution -- I'm not a huge fan of caramel, which is why I haven't bought any.

This is the recipe:

Boston Cream Cheesecake

Milk chocolate 5%
Cheesecake 5%
Vanilla Custard 4%
Bavarian Cream 4%
Caramel 2%

I was just trying to think if I had anything else that I might use in place of the caramel, and the brown sugar extra occurred to me.

Thx!
Andria

I found the TFA Brown Sugar to be harsh when vaped. I also don't care for TFA Caramel - it tastes artificial and unpleasant to me. Try FlavourArt Caramel, just the plain or Original Caramel. It is smooth and subtle, not harsh and no chemical tastes.

The whole point was, I don't have any caramel, because I don't really care for caramel -- it's nothing but melted sugar, and people go all googly-eyed about it.

But I'm really wondering why that recipe needs caramel at all, TBH. As far as I can remember, I have never ever had any caramel on either boston cream pie OR cheesecake.

So my son went to sleep and I finally got to dive into my order that arrived today. I must say opening some of the flavors made my mouth water, I wasn't expecting them to be so strong smelling and delicious. Figured I would start with an easy mix for my first 100 drop test ever.

Vanilla Berry
9% Strawberry
7% Blueberry (Extra)
2% Vanilla Swirl

Didn't give it much time to steep, just set it in hot water for about 20 minutes and a few good shakes, loaded it up into a new tank and YUM! I think I am hooked :) I may tone down the percentages a bit for my next test run, the flavor is VERY bold, and I am not used to it, it is delicious, just too strong. Will wait till morning when it has a bit more time to mix together and possibly settle down and see how it tastes then before I do additional batches. Also as a pleasant surprise, they threw in a tester bottle of bubblegum for me (which I was kicking myself for not ordering) so I am very happy with the order, everything came wrapped neatly in bubblewrap (Amber Bottles, drippers, beakers) and the juices were vacuum sealed in a few bags (Although it let out one hell of a smell when I broke the seal :p).

EDIT:
Decided to do up a batch of the Raspberry Lemonade I found as well to try it out.
8% Raspberry(Sweet)
6% Lemon
2% EM

Same quick steep time, first impression is of a giant raspberry with a hint of lemon, not lemonade though. It has the sweet, but missing the sour as Bill said it would be. It is still yummy though, think I will continue to vape this one tonight (save a ml in the tank for morning), I am feeling very optimistic though, even though neither recipe is spot on, both are still able to be vaped. Getting over a cold atm though so hopefully by the weekend I will be all cleared up and possibly get a bit creative.

The problems was the Cap's nutmeg. It took about 5 weeks for the nutmeg to dissipate enough to be any good. I found that Cap's Vanilla Custard is only so-so. The TFA vanilla custard and nutmeg combination is far better, and immediately so, but that's just my impression. During that time frame, I had numerous discussions via email with participants of the Stevo's mixing group, and most of us decided that low percentage mixes taking weeks to develop flavoring that was vapable was not the way to go, and I ended up over here. About the same time, I met some of the makers of well-known juice makers, got interested in making juice commercially, and learned quite a few commercial "secrets" about juice making, including the use of high flavor mixes. The steep crowd doesn't like to admit that many juices are actually made to order, though not all certainly, and these same makers use HFM as well. It's been an interesting journey. There are certainly more than one way to do this, DIY, that is. Good luck! :toast: :D

What is HFM?

Must be nice, it is -18C here today before windchill, so I can't take my Nautilus in the car with me (It leaks when it gets cold).

My "Raspberry Lemonade" seem to balance out a bit better this morning, I will be mixing up another batch later, maybe take the raspberry down to 7%, I wish I had Sour to add to it, but otherwise it is quite a nice vape. I must say there is no comparison between self made juice and the stuff I have bought in the past (It seems like they must have been using very little flavoring). The Vanilla Berry is still too much for me though, will have to scale it back a good amount, thinking 7% Strawberry, 5% Blueberry (extra) and 1% Vanilla Swirl for next batch.

Wondering about how to proceed after I get a 100 drop test that I like. I noticed the drops of VG are noticable larger than my drops of PG, so I am guessing I should go to a 10ml batch with syringes next, but I assume this will increase the flavor % from the 100 drop test. Should I measure out drops/ml for my VG, and adjust my 100 drop test down to like a 90 drop test that would actually be more accurate?

I use the 100DT all the time using 30% PG for flavoring and PG, and 70% for VG and VG Nicotine (100 mg/ml). I vape at 6 mg/ml, so 6 drops Nicotine, plus 64 drops of VG. What we are trying to do with the 100DT is get the percentages correct. Yes, the drops can vary slightly, but not enough to substantially change the mix, and the whole point is to move away from weight to percentages/drops. On big mixing days, I do use the syringe for the 64 drops of VG, but just to save time. For me, the VG is the carrier, not the flavoring, so it will make little difference. The important part is the flavoring percentages. This method allows us to move completely away from volume and weight and even accuracy to get to the approximate percentages and ratios of the mix. Once we have our test where we want it, I use the eJuiceMeUp calculator to calculate the amounts based on the percentages determined via 100DT. It works out just fine, without requirement to determine molecular weight or anything else! :toast: :D

Alright sounds good, I have just been doing 50/50 VG/PG for now as I stuck my new flavors in some old Iclear30s tanks I had (had spare coils). With this batch of my rasp lemonade I lowered the raspberry by 1% and it seems very well balanced (although still missing the sour). I plan on making a bigger batch of this tonight probably to vape while I work on some other flavors. I was just wondering because I could do my 35 drops of PG with a bit over 1 dropper filled, but with VG my 50 drops took almost 4. Seems like a larger difference to me. Guess I will see when I scale it up. The flavors coming out a bit stronger probably won't be an issue though as I noticed they settle down a bit over time, and I have always found my iclear30s tanks to give a really thick flavor compared to anything else I have used.
