As for filtering, same thing, alot of people use different techniques,i use a piece of cheese cloth for the first strain to get the bigger stuff removed, then i take a large syringe, pull the plunger out and stuff some cotton into the bottom.Fill the syringe with liquid, put the plunger back in and push the liquid through the cotton.I get some gunking on my coils using this method, but it's not as bad as some others have gotten on theirs.

Have you ever tried a coffee filter for the second pass?

Yes,it can be very easy, some tobacco will take a bit longer, but i just dip my finger in and taste it every once in a while until it gets where i want it,i let my last ones go for 2 months and they are great. As for price,my last extract i made cost me roughly $10 in materials, and i got about 150ml of extract. The tobacco i used was like $6 a pouch, then about 180ml or so of pg i figure roughly $4,and i still have enough of the tobacco to make another 1000ml at least, possibly more haha.I don't care much for straight tobacco flavors with the exception of cigars which i have 6 as extracts, but i like some of the pipe tobacco blends, and flavored tobacco.I have one going now that is a coffee and vanilla flavored tobacco.

There is a tobacco flavor that I would dearly love to try, in a vape, but I don't know what pre-made ejuice would taste like that, or what tobacco flavor(s) to get, to make it. My grandfather used to smoke this amazing smelling cherry tobacco in his pipe, and I loved that smell years and years before I ever smoked. It smelled delicious, even to a child! I was surrounded since birth by cigarette smoke, so my grandfather's pipe was a real treat compared to that awful fug.

I have done a lot of extractions. Some aromatics don't translate well to a vape (I was the Aro Queen for awhile on the NT thread). Most were very disappointing. But for basic pipe tobacco flavors (I never smoked a pipe) they can make for a very pleasant tobacco vape. Pap, if you can get your hands on some American Spirit RYO tobacco, extracting makes for a nice "cigarette" tasting vape, without the burning, smoking, yuck flavor from burning it.

I also heat extract. I am not going to turn this into an extraction tutorial, there are whole threads dedicated to it. I filter with a French Press coffee maker and use the Master Carr 5 micron felt filters. Coffee filters do not filter small enough to get the tobacco solids out of the extract. Fine for a first pass, but you need a much finer final filter. I do one filtering with the press and felt filter. B. M. Already stated the resulting volume. 1 oz of tobacco will yield a LOT of extract. I then mix at 15 to 20% as a flavoring in nic/pg/vg, letit steep a few weeks, and enjoy.

Tobaccos are not my #1 choice of flavor, but sometimes they just hit the spot. Synthetic tobaccos just don't do it for me.

Andria, if you'd post this over in the Inawera thread I'd have some suggestions for you. Maybe nothing you haven't thought about already though.

@clnire - thanks for the explanation. The reason I have been looking for the Cavendish is because I want to try my hand at a Space Jam Eclipse clone. I bought three Space Jam juices when I first switched to vaping (all of two months ago :D ) and I really loved the Eclipse. I don't want to buy any more pre-mixes but would love to experiment with replicating it. It's quite a sweet juice with creamy custard and vanilla but that touch of tobacco makes it really really nice.

So you just use a pouch of RYO tobacco? I thought this involved getting the actual leaves which I suppose would be just as easy for you being in America. We don't grow tobacco here. But if it is just a pouch of tobacco I'm off to find some Cavendish tobacco. I've been looking for that flavour everywhere without luck.
Yep,just pouch tobacco is all it takes,or cigars. There have been a few people here doing it with the whole leaf, but it's not required.I did use some ryo on my first time, now i have been getting different pipe tobacco's and cigars.Being you are not in the U.S.,i don't know what types of blends they carry in your country, but here you buy straight cavendish or get it in blends with other tobacco's.I have a pipe tobacco that has cavendish in it,but i have no idea which flavor it gives off in that mix,it's a good mix though haha.

Well, from what I have been reading, Cavendish is more of a process rather than an actual tobacco. And it is mostly used in blends with other tobaccos. It gives the blend the sweetness one associates with pipe tobacco... again if I understand correctly. There's Cavendish in Erinmore pipe tobacco and I'm sure we have that since my brother used to smoke it a lifetime ago. :)

Yes, Cavendish is a process. I can't recite the exact process, but it does add sweetness and body to the tobacco. Here is a link that might help you learn more about individual tobaccos:

Tobacconist University | Academic Curriculum

you might try extracting some of that Erinmore tobacco (if you can get some fresh it would be better than old tobacco) and see what you get! It really is not difficult. bm's cotton in a syringe method of filtering works just fine; just kinda labor intensive to me. But it DOES work well. Great way to start and test extracting. Start small, you can always extract more!

Thanks for the responses about tobacco absolute. Turns out I was quite familiar with the product but not with that name for it.
People should know (if they don't already) that "NET" refers not only to "naturally extracted tobacco" but also to the vendor that goes by that name.
If any pipe smokers out there have fond memories of the now extinct Balkan Sobranie blend, they should check out the Balkan blend. I am soooo eager to try it!

You are very right,it is definitely labor intensive especially when doing larger amounts. My thumb gets sore from pressing the plunger so many times haha. Now that i've found that i like the extracts and will continue to do them,i plan to get either a french press or the aero press,as i figure either of those will make life alot easier haha.I agree on starting small too,my first few tries were done in a shot glass.just a big pinch of tobacco and enough pg to cover it.When those turned out good, then i started making large batches.

Thanks for the links chanel. There are a ton to choose from.
I'm off and on so I'm playing catch up....

Yes his extracts are a bit high, but remember I won't recommend something unless I've tried it and it's good! :thumb:

Their tobacco extracts are superb, as are their pre-mixed tobacco NET juices!

Personally speaking I intensely dislike tobacco blends or flavors, but as having had been a cigar smoker and have tried several of his cigar extracts, this is where I would go for any NET!

Remember; Quality is not expensive, it's priceless!

If you really want some great, awesome, superb, "D" all of the above NET', you won't be disappointed!

:toast:
I am a fan of Clays. Love the smoked Pineapple and the Big Spirit

My Vape Juice - Dianne also sells extracts, along with ready to vape extracted tobacco. Her filtering methods result in very clean (less gunking) juice.

Yeah, wouldn't want to pay that. So I imagine Malta is a beautiful place to live. Do you have vape shops and is it easy to get supplies from say Italy? Indiana is going to put a lot of restrictions on e-liquid starting July 1st this year. I will have to DIY all my liquids and wont be able to buy online. How are the laws there?
Wait... Indiana is doing what? We won't be able to buy DIY materials online?
