6.5 miles in one hour!!!!

I remember when we had the treadmill, there was no way I could walk or run that kind of distance in that time. Then it dawned on me... I was a smoker back then.

Since starting to vape I really didn't notice any difference in my lung function, other than holding notes longer, until I started with the elliptical. I am amazed at myself. Hell, just last week I stated, here on this thread, that I would never be able to go an hour on this thing.

I CAN!!!! I DID!!! I have... <~joy

Rickb talking about sugar reminded me.... did you know the average American consumes approximately 150 lbs of sugar every year? Our bodies were not designed for that. It's one of the main reasons why diabetes is at epidemic levels. It's a really hard habit to break too, our brains demand it once we've gotten used to it, like a drug.

But most of us here beat cigarettes, that's way harder.

150lbs?? thats like 6.5 oz per day....

Robin you are doing awesome! Today is an 'off' day for me.

One of these days when the teenagers are grown and gone I will get into healthier foods. We had spaghetti w/meat sauce, french bread and broccoli tonight. I do make subtle changes where I can- only whole wheat pasta and bread, very little 'out of a box' dinner or freezer stuff. We never have snack cakes or soda on hand. Snacks are string cheese, nuts, and black olives (thanks RJ for the olive idea). But I do have sweets. I like sugar in my coffee, there's normally a dark chocolate bar in the door of the frig, and I keep a box of animal crackers. April, I too had ice cream last week, a small bowl! I really believe the key is portion sizes and moderation.

I was a good girl this morning and choked down some oatmeal with chopped apples. As I am not a breakfast person, this was quite the accomplishment.

I love the old-fashioned oatmeal that is supposed to cook for 5 minutes (although it actually only takes about 2 minutes). I eat it almost every single morning.

I can't stand instant oatmeal, which has the taste and consistency of wallpaper glue.

You know what else is yummy? Steel cut in the crockpot overnight. I do that for the girls on holiday breaks. Wake up to yumminess.

Robin, you ate pizza yesterday right? Tons of sodium there, so don't fret over the weight on the scale, it will go down.

Lunges kill my knees as well. Take it easy today.
I don't pay any attention to the scale at all. You can look at yourself and judge how your efforts are paying off. Just my take.

The scale fluctuations don't concern me. Remember, muscle weighs way more than fat!

Animal crackers? My mom would give me those while she shopped...as long as I was a good boy. I sat in the cart. :)

A Lion doesn't have the luxury of meal planning. He eats when he can depending on availability and how well Mrs. Lion is hunting. :)

Read the labels on stuff, we're not just talking about the sugar you add, we're also talking the sugar THEY add too. A 2 liter soft drink has something like 2 cups of sugar in it.

Huh? ................

Steel cut oats cooked overnight.

edit: I just looked it up: "There are 240 grams of sugar (same carbohydrate count as 20 tbsp. (that's TABLESPOONS) of granulated sugar) in the form of sugar/glucose-fructose in a two liter bottle of Coca Cola."
