After reading some overenthusiastic threads about using VG for extracting from pipe tobacco- how intense, how strong etc. I bet all they extract are the artificial flavourings. What I learnt so far is that PG works, and to be on relatively (it is all very un scientific what we do here and sort of crazy) safe side, will stick to tobacco that I can be sure has no add ons.

perhaps that's why my VG extractions went well

I started with 70/30 VG/Water

Ended up adding more water and reducing multiple times over heat, so I probably got the extraction bonus of water and managed to boil off the excess (not all of it, one of them is pretty watery) in the process

I'm going to try a pure PG, PG/Water, and PG/VG/Water

Lox do you have a suggestion for the PG/VG/Water ratios and solution to tobacco ratio? And did you use heat?

I used 60mls water, 90mls vg, 60mls pg. I started with just water and tobacco and simmered until water was gone but tobacco was still wet - then added VG and PG and simmered on low heat about 30 mins. I let stand overnight and reheated just enough to filter it. It was pretty good right away but after a week it was even better. Its great as a flavor additive to juices or I mix it 50/50 with VG nic base and it tastes just like tobacco.

When I first researched this process I learned that if you have somewhere between 30 to 40% water in the final extract, it will NOT have a really long shelf life. If you keep the water content in the final extract below 30% the extract should have a shelf life of several years. If you leave too much water in your final extract bacteria and mold could eventually start to grow.

The water is necessary for the extraction to work properly. Water is a much stronger solvent that PG or VG.

I'm really glad you have tried the PG extraction. I will be trying that this weekend to see how it turns out for me. I will be using the crock pot method.

Part 3: extraction with water. Honestly do not understand what is the point of using water. The result is as bad as VG - lots of colour, more then VG but hardly any taste and/or aroma. So visually , just like VG might be OK but I am not interested in dark (or any colour) looking liquid, I dont want to look at it , just vape it. So my conclusion is- PG works fine, VG and water waste of tobacco and time...

I just did some extracting of some Gambler Tobacco but I added a little of Myers Dark Rum 80 proof. If the taste is as good as the smell right now. Then I'm in for a real treat. After it sits for 24hrs then I'm going to add some tart&sour to help preserve the flavor. It will also help in boosting the flavor of the tobacco.
