I meant to add... some of those dry-burnings i did yesterday that I thought were successful in bringing coils back to "life", appear now to be less successful than I thought. Only one of the 3 T3S coils I have is now working, which was the case before the dry-burning. One of the coils is clearly shot, it should be at or near 2.5 ohms, but it started going up to 2.9, then 3.0.. last time I checked it was 3.2... so it's toast. But the other one, I just dunno what's wrong with it. It registers 2.6 ohms so it seems to be intact, but it gurgles horribly, and nothing I do to it seems to change that. I blew thru the bottom of it till I was literally blue in the face. And both it and the ARO leak, from the coil, the drop right on top of the battery contact, and it's clearly e-juice, very golden. At least I have 3 new ones on the way. And, today I ordered the Mini PT II, and also a 5-pk of the std resistance 510 cartos, a short cone, and a glass drip tip which is somewhat taller than a standard drip tip. All that and priority shipping, less than $30. Dunno who first told me about Desert Vapes, but I'm grateful!

Pics when your new toys come in, Andria... please.

:D I was already thinking that I'll have to get a new pic of my iTaste, it will look quite different than with the T3S. That cone should make a lot of diff, covering the ego threads. All they had for the cartos was black, but that's what I was going to order anyhow; I found a site from Hong Kong that has the ego-c twist 1100 mAh in black for $10... slow shipping, probably nearly as long as from FT, but what an outrageous deal!!! I'm mainly ordering it as a backup, because I'm planning on getting a couple of the vv3 *just battery* deals they have at Desert Vapes; got the stainless one now, so I'll get the black and chameleon too. :D My husband is starting to understand that I do need a backup for my backup's backup, just so that vaping is easier than running to the store for a pk of smokes. :smokie: :D Or an Njoy. :vapor: And he knows how ruthlessly I prowl for great deals. ;) And after much thought and deal-prowling, I've decided that it would be pretty hard, and pretty expensive, to do very much better than this iTaste. I'm very happy with it, so why try to fix what isn't broken. But I still can't resist that price on the ego-c twist. :D

Great post, Ms. 'dria. ;)

When I was just a newbie vapette in swaddling batteries, a wise veteran vaper (also sweet, kind, handsome and funny) said to me ... many years ago.....

Backups:

An heir and a spare, and an heir for the spare...

G'nite all~

Sounds like you don't have enough flavor wick after the dry burn. That will often cause the leak to the battery that you describe. Pour the juice back into your bottle, wiggle the chimney off and check. I use a full piece of Peaches and Cream yarn with generally good results on my T3S, Aro and most other bottom coil toppers. (Some times, with some Aros, a full strand plus 1 or 2 individual strands is needed, the P&C is 4 strands) Lay it across the main wick, put the chimney back on, and trim both sides even with the base. then fluff them out so the gap is filled with wicking.

It might be, too, that when you had them apart to clean you disturbed the main wick. If that's the case, you'll need to replace that. You can use the P&C for that, too, although you won't be able to dry burn :) Use any small pointed tool (toothpick?) to work the silica wick out, piece by piece. Be gentle, so you don't distort the wire of the coil. Once it's all out, thread the P&C through. You can wrap one end of it to a point with teflon plumber's tape, which comes off easily.

Or you can use any other cotton for wick. Many use cotton balls, teasing out enough to roll into a "thread." For the coil, the wick should have just a slight resistance to being pulled back and forth.

Too tight and you'll get dry hits. Too loose and it will gurgle and leak.

Well that explains a lot... what I used for the flavor wick was the 100% cotton edge-stitching from a 100% cotton washcloth.. I used 4 strands, but maybe it's just not enough. Tonight I'll try adding a couple more strands and see if that helps that one that leaks, and the ARO too, which also leaks. Those coils are still registering pretty close to their rated resistance, so I dont think there's anything wrong with them... but maybe not enough flavor wicking for the thin juice I use. (but those cotton flavor wicks really do give a lot more flavor!!!)

Actually I was thinking that if/when I do get to the "rebuilding" stage, I'd probably use some of the silica wicking for the coil itself, just so I *can* still dry burn them. Guess I oughta put some of that on my next order... though it might be a while till I'm ready to tackle the rebuilding... which is why I thought it would be good to try the cartomizer thing for a while, a lot less hassle and leaking.

Gotta go be my mom's housekeeper today, she's not physically able to do housework anymore, so my husband and I have a "cottage" industry doing it for her. But I'll work on those flavor wicks tonight! :thumb:

Thx!

Good luck with it, Andria.

It can be a bit finicky, but after a few tries to get a "feel" for what you need for your blend it gets really easy. Just remember that you need to fill that "notch", but not too tight.

Oh, and if too tight, you have to draw too hard, and that can also cause gurgling and leaking. Play with it until you find the right combo.

I do use silica for my main wick, so I can dry burn. Lazy :) And if you have some old, dead non-rebuildable top coils from starting out, you can break them open and use the silica wick from them.

I've heard that Radio Shack takes used batteries but not sure about these things. On facebook some lady said she makes wind chimes from the ego tubes. I pulled apart one dead ego and it was work to get the top off with pliers.

I like it! Paul can you link me please?

Just converted 2 smokers to ecigs while on my trip to Yellowknife in the North West Territory of Canada and need to replace the VV 3.0's I gave away. Where can I find the best price to replace them.

101Vapes Vapingtown on Facebook, or Fasttech (if you can wait) seem to be the best, I think--you'll save about $10 off from other sites.
