I had planned on using kanthal, it seems the most popular, and I read a post somewhere in which someone said that nichrome wires in their coil had made them feel quite sick.

So, if I don't use pre-welded wires, what do I do? I'm certainly not a welder! :D

Andria

Yup, Kanthal A1. Some people have a bad reaction to the level of nickle in NiChrome, which is a nickle chromium alloy.

Don't worry about non-welded. The idea is that if you have a low resistance piece of wire on each side of the heating coil, there's less voltage drop and less heat on the insulating grommet. While there's some truth to that, ime both are not a concern. Many factory coils have no welds, just kanthal.

Exactly what I was going to say David -- pretty much you want Kanthal A1 -- i know they have some Kanthal pre wrapped wires with silica wick (and even some double and quadruple wicked pre wraps). Mainly, you'll just want to avoid welded wiring. kanthal is safe and produces a wonderful vape IMO. Welding is simply unnecesary for kanthal wiring. It heats quite well.

If you do decide to wrap your own - especially for a Pro Tank or something of the sort -- here is some great information:

Protank Cotton Rebuild, Way I Do

Protank Microcoil Discussion

There is some great information on how to wrap Tensioned Micro Coils that work great to replace the wiring inside the protank/aro/t3s coils. Get some 28, 30 or 32 gauge kanthal and some organic cotton balls and you're set! (a 1/16" and 5/64" drill bit are nice too -- a pin vise makes life even easier)... MacTechVpr knows as much about tensioned micro coils as David knows about everything else

Anyway, just stick with some Kanthal and you're golden to start. IMO, stay away from anything welded or non-kanthal for wiring. Never used Nichrome, just know that some people like it!

Anyone have their V3 screen shut down??

I was vaping away and the V3 just shut down. No light on power or screen. I might've vaped it all the way down, wasn't watching the colored lights.

It's on the charger now, maybe when it gets juiced up enuf the lights will come back?? The power light went green upon charger hook up, but the screen is still dead.

Doesn't work as a passthru when totally dead, huh?

Anyone have an estimate on when 101vape will be restocked?

Nobody has had problems with Desertvapes?

Just to double check, did you make sure and try the three clicks of the power button?

    Edit:
I just double checked on mine, if the power is off, the green light comes on when charging but it will not vape in pass through. I think your unit is turned off. If the three clicks doesn't work then it might be the switch?

    :oops::blush::oops:..............Sheesh, and I've been vaping awhile. TY:blush:

Edit-Well, it's acting up now tho- doing that blinking mid-vape like I had the button pushed too long....

I think it managed to shut itself down and I didn't think about the 3 clik part.

Mine did that too after I first got it...I even posted about it here. I felt like a doofus, because it HAD shut itself off.

If it's blinking when you push the button, it's about ready to power down. You might not notice it (I usually don't), but when the button starts to go yellow it's time to charge. You don't have much warning after that. :(

I must have ordered 10 times from DV. Quick processing, timely emails, fair prices, good variety. I like that they have small amounts of kanthal and silica wick so that I can try it before buying in bulk.

Might I suggest trying cotton? You can't dry burn cotton, but the flavor and vapor production is phenomenal. Very easy to replace without damaging the coil as well.

I try everything. Sunday was .6 silica in this one, twisted cotton ball in that one... just got some 2mm silica and a roll of cotton roasting twine.

After a day I am loving the VV Ver3 ( I am so easy) but I did notice a small rattle noise...does anyone else have this issue? Of course, it only rattles when I shake it gently...maybe I shouldn't shake it. :)

Yeah. This is common. After awhile you won't even notice as it only happens if you shake it. Good news, if you're every in need of maracas, you'll have one on hand

Busardo was really negative about that faint rattle, but honestly I barely notice it. Since I usually vape at upwards of 4v (4.2-4.5 with this 2.2 ohm coil, higher with the 2.5 ohm ones) the snap crackle pop of the atomizer is a LOT louder, to me.

Ok, I'll check out those links and bookmark 'em so I can get back to them later. However I do plan to get some silica wicking, so I can dry-burn when they start to taste bad, BUT, I do like the cotton for the flavor wick, and I got some of that P&C yarn yesterday.

Couple things occurred to me while I was dry burning, and looking at them closely. First, the wires in there aren't wrapped very close together; haven't I read something about people pushing the wires right together, for a "micro coil" or something? Maybe I'm off base, I really don't understand electronics or most of what's said about it. I think it was Myrany who said to get 30ga wire, and she seems to really know her stuff, with all this. But I can't remember how many times she said the wire should be wrapped. And the other thing was how the heck does that fit in there, and how is it attached? She also told me that, but I don't remember, so I guess I need to try and find that thread and that post. It seems almost like a "ship in a bottle" to me.

This is all really academic at this point, as I don't have the proper tools for it, OR the wire, but I figure the more I can learn about it, the less intimidating it will seem. We got drill bits and a power drill, my husband has a ton of "man toys" ;) but I know we don't have any kind of vise, because he's always b*tching about it. :D Think that's something he intends to correct, when we get that fed refund.

    VAPEMAIL TOMORROW!!!

Agreed 9/8 wrap with 30 gauge is fantastic. Right on a 1/16th drill bit with a micro coil that's been tensioned (a pin vise for $10 from Amazon works fantastic for this)

RipTripper does a great job with the basics of a hand rolled micro coil (look him up on YouTube), a tensioned micro coil is slightly different and better for electrical current.
