It all has to do with individual taste. When I first quit smoking after 40 years I could not taste the flavoring no matter how strong or weak I made it. I was thinking I just didn't know what I was doing when mixing juices. So I just vaped it even though I couldn't taste the flavor. Even though I really didn't enjoy vaping that much I though it's still better then smoking. Then about 3 months into vaping something magical happened, I started to taste a little flavor. As the months went buy I was able to taste more and more flavor and vaping began to become enjoyable. After a year I needed to start cutting back on flavoring because it started tasting to strong. Now at almost 3 years into it I've gone from 20% flavoring to anywhere from 2 - 7% depending on what I'm making. The point here is it is true that if you were a long time smoker your taste buds need time to come back to life. Not only that but if you are a new vaper and not an ex smoker your taste buds still need time to get used to this new experience called vaping. I'm sure my taste buds are still not fully back to where they should be but I'm sure with more time I'll be tasting even more. For ex-smokers taste buds need time to gain back there sensitivity to taste and this takes a very long time. Taste bud sensitivity is different for everyone ex-smokers and non-smokers alike. If this wasn't the case then sharing recipes would be so simple. Kind of a one size fits all would then apply. But this is not the case so we must all agree to disagree on what percent of flavor is right or if a flavor taste like cherries, roses, chemicals or dog poop...

I have been reading your posts for over a year dannyv45 and IMHO 6-11% of any tobacco flavoring or mix is NOT Itty Bitty LOL. Do not get me wrong I have learned alot from reading your posts and Blogs but I wonder why you felt the need to post in this thread?? I was hoping to attract the super tasters - not the normal tasters. Keep on Vaping :vapor:

I was unaware that you needed a license to post in this thread, but here is my 2 cents. I am a super taster when it comes to certain flavors, but a dead beat on others. I use Burley tobacco for example at 1 drop per 10 ml and still taste it from a mile away. On Tobacco Absolute on the other hand, I need to go 5 times higher than Danny before I can get a decent taste. It also depends on which brand you are using. FA for example is well known for being super concentrated; their recommended usage is around 2% compared to TFA which sometimes goes as high as 15-20%.

There is a handy site that shows the recommended percentages for various manufacturers but for some reason I can't get it to post here. Will try a separate post to see if it will work.

Wow it did not work for me either wonder why?? If you go to the bottom of your post and click on the flavor brand it will work and no I do not know why it does that now
I will not be starting any threads on any of the forums I have tried to get good info on anymore it seems a waste of everyone's time. Sorry for my posts. :vapor: remember to VVV

I keep wondering why flavoring is considered as a must-have at all. The only reason I can think of is that it has been always like that and we tend to stick to things that have always been like that?

No, there is a second reason: marketing :p

Take yoghurt. Do we need sweet yoghurts with tons of stuff in it that makes it taste and smell like not-yoghurt?

Ps
My own flavoring is minimal, to the point of not noticing any of it. The reason for it was that I did not like any of the flavors I tried for longer than a couple of days. In the meantime the idea of vape tasting/smelling like food simply puts me off.

We never had too many flavors to choose from when we were smoking. Now we have hundreds of more choices - more reasons why vaping might be more addictive than smoking. Comments anyone?

I usually only use 1-2%, but I mostly use FA and Inawera too. I like the strong ones better because they're easier to measure for me and less likely to turn into a perfumey mess IME. Also doesn't gunk up coils and wicks very much, I've managed to go like a month without having to re-wick/dry burn.

crxess you are so correct, I did get the title wrong I see that - but it is too late now. ;) And I am sorry for coming off like it is for anyone certain but I really was hoping for some help. Being a Super Taster Vape wise bites big time! I can look at others ideas on what percentages to start with and yes it is a very helpful tool for most but now that my taste-buds are in full swing again, for me not so much. I have wasted so much juice mixing up different percentages that I was hoping some others had an idea of what to try. Maybe I should just stop trying and just stick to mixing the 1 or 2 that I can stand. nebulis you may be correct also. :D I own over 129 flavorings and like maybe 5 and use 2 in my all day vapes, so sad to spend all that money and not care for more than that.
Thank You all for your input.

That moment, as you look over your collection of 100+ flavor concentrates.... when you realize that DIY flavor collecting is far more addictive than nicotine

Dixie, are you perchance a supertaster in the rest of your life? Just curious, my g/f is and when I started vaping I got her to try it and she couldn't STAND any of my flavors, said it was overload. (She just quit smoking analogs). Now that I'm mixing my own flavors, I've gotten her to try a couple and even at 1% she still thinks it's too much.

Dixie, not a super taster, just an improved pallet vaping this long. Certain tabs (not into fluffy flavors) I can only use one drop per 30ml. Have you tried the 100 drop test? It might be very useful for you.

As far as having many flavor rejects, its just part of the chase. If I get one out of five, I consider that a victory. Typically its more like one out of twenty. I'd suggest moving those on you don't like. Its frustrating seeing them all the time. At least it was for me.

I use less than what most people use to make any drinks(soft),like coffee I use Taster's Choice and I use a level (or a wee bit less) teaspoon per 16 oz cup. I don't like a lot of seasoning in or on my food usually. I like no in-your-face flavors in my food or my vape. I should have known that would effect how I perceive flavorings, but I did not even think about it LOL. I tried some ready mades through online but OMG it gagged me and even cutting it 50/50 did not help. So yeah I have been told all my life I was too picky about my food but I think I just like the taste of it mostly all by itself. I use most flavorings now except mints at less than .5% usually at .1%. So MaenadMoogle, maybe you can make a dilution of the whatever flavoring you are trying to get her to like and maybe go with something not using a lot of different flavors together in it? Too many flavorings in a mix overwhelm my picky taste buds. ;)

I don't even want to count how many vials of flavoring I've got and don't use.

I don't think I'm a super taster, I've just gotten more accustomed to subtle flavoring. What do you think about vaping unflavored? I'm starting to enjoy it.

I do unflavored sometimes but I only do 3ml of juice a day maybe 3.5ml. I do find it funny that people say that VG is sweet but do not notice it in PG - I do, I have tried it plain to see what it tasted like.:p I tend to like a very very mild tobacco with a slight sweetness to it. But if I could no longer get the flavorings I do like I could vape unflavored nic base. :vapor:
