So today a friend showed me pictures of a lady's Dodge which caught fire from an e cig battery (assuming it was an eGo). He had a link to the news story, but I forgot to ask him to e-mail it to me.

Anyways, anybody else heard about this? Apparently she suffered emotional stress and second degree burns. Her bottom caught on fire. She is suing the vendor AND the manufacturer.

yea, i agree its going to come down to her own fault for walking away.
The high temperature for Phoenix AZ on April 24th 2013 was 90 degrees.
thats just the open air temp, im sure it was triple digits in the car.

article says nothing about her getting burned.

The Glendale Fire Department encourages you to never leave any electronics unattended in the vehicles while they are charging.

heck looking at the pic i wouldnt trust that gas station usb even if i was there lol

I'm not sure who doesn't get that heat, electronics and batteries don't mix. I don't have a/c in my car at the moment, but I won't even use my GPS or charge my cell phone while I'm in the car because it gets too warm in there in the summer. Not the manufacturer's fault that she didn't have any common sense.

Besides, I've heard that usb charging in the car is ridiculously unreliable. I've had it fry a phone of mine once. I'm not ever taking the chance on 18650 batteries. /shrugs

That story will be on the front page of the NYT tomorrow. Except it will read...
"Electronic Cigarette Explodes Taking Out 4 City Blocks"
Hazmat crews are working around the clock trying to clean up the nicotine fallout.
LOL!!

I find it interesting "how" the battery blew. Out the bottom, which is a good thing.

Reminds Me of the lady who sued for being served a hot cup of coffee

At McDonalds she spilled it on her lap I remember that and now because of that they have to regulate the temp of their coffee to under a specific degree

I hate how it says "she cannot get back into the Dodge Charger because it makes her recall the incident." My car stereo caught on fire and I ripped it out and threw it out the window, never once thought "I can't drive or listen to music because it makes me recall the incident." A generation of "sue everybody."

Directed at Press-Enterprise: "Jennifer and Xavier were going to help Passport 2 Freedom, a non-governmental organization, build a community center for children in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, according to the lawsuit"

And that's relevant why?

All this (the other story too) just provides a window of attack for the "forces" that are hoping to shut this down. BT and BP will use anything to retain their monopoly.
