Interesting. Really hope others chime in after looking at how the wick is placed both for the ones that work well, and not so well. I'd expect really thin juices to be less affected.

A little below the holes doesn't appear to be a problem. What is, is when the wick is so far down, and or twisted to the side that it creates a sharp bend.

Yep mine are down far enough that the wicks are pointing at a 45 or worse of an angle towards the wick hole. And I use a 50/50 blend so it doesn't wick as good as it could be.

Fixing them is a lot easier when new since the wick gets more fragile with use. I "fixed" a new one this AM also, it vapes like a champ. I might add this is with 100%VG and the wicks trimmed flush with the hole! Just ordered 2 more boxes of the 2.6-2.8. The lower ohms are sold out...of course.

I have successfully filled 3 Phoenix...no problems. Just filled the fourth....and all the juice is running out the bottom. I've checked the middle tube..seems fine. Anything I can do to salvage this thing??

There is either a juice hole with no wick in it (unlikely), or the top seal isn't airtight.

Took it apart.....wicks look okay....is there anything I can do about the seal???

I'd try re-seating it and if that fails, try one from another so you'll know if the seal is at fault. I had one do the same after the 3rd fill or so. I've since tried to be more careful with the needle since I think the fill hole may not be resealing.

Big Screen D I look forward to seeing your pics I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly

The three units that I trimmed and thinned, the wicks are all straight in line with the coil, but they aren't fluffed up to cover the entire wick slot at all. When I initially got them they were straight in line with the coil, and fluffed/taking up the entire wick slot. In that configuration they didn't work for me at all

Working on it CV. My phone just isn't clear enough. Waiting on my kid to get home and find the software for her camera...I hope lol.

Were yours pushed down to the bottom of the cup such that the wick has a sharp bend to it?

Trimming the wick absolutely works well. Thinning the wick I find trickier, though this is a variable that's hard to judge since there is probably some variation carto to carto here. I agree that having a small opening here is needed. I made a leaker out of one when used with 50/50 juice. Same one is usable, but will slowly leak out with 100%VG. As you posted earlier, the ultimate fix is for the inlet hole size to be adjustable to accommodate different viscosity juices.

I'm going try out the adjustable hole theory by filing a slope in opposing sides of the air tube and see if I can turn it to adjust by sticking a small screwdriver in the top.

that's a brilliant idea!

I think I may have overfixed one by removing too much wick as well, but I'm not sure yet. I have to re test it

my wicks weren't pressed down, they fired straight out to the sides, but were nice and fluffed up.

when you fix your screwed up ones, do you fluff up the wick so it covers the wick slot? because that seemed to be the culprit for me, it made things worse...but if that's making things better for you, I'm at a loss LOL

No. As I edited to the last post, I also find that for best performance there needs to be a small unobstructed juiceway (new word?)

BTW wonder how we can get a cotton wick in there LOL.

day 6, all i need is clean it every 2 or 3 days and keep vaping. i have the xl version. i havent done any modding (thicker juices dont do real well without any modding) since i use 70pg/30vg liquid. no leaks, awesome vapor and throat hit and flavor. the only thing i can think of, to make these better is to have an adjustable tube/wick for thicker liquids.

I was just cleaning and looking at my wicks

so the coil is seated in the cup, and the wick holes are actually elevated in relation to the wick and coil

so yes they all angle up to get out of the hole

so I mis spoke, my wicks were never and are not a straight line from the coil out to the hole. it seems like in order to achieve that I'd have to either raise the ceramic cup, or raise the coil without popping it off

now I'm really confused and curious lol

I decided to fix 1 of the two problem children by pulling up and aligning the wick to correct the pinched wick syndrome. Mission accomplished. Now that I know what to look for, and that there is a reasonable chance of correcting the mis-formed coil/wicks which I'll now do before even filling from now on, it's game over. This is the one and only carto that the wife and I will use going forward.

Based on the 10 I have, 40% malformed coil/wick is a problem that I hope the manufacturer takes notice of. Not everyone is willing, or should be willing to have to fiddle with these to make them work at their best.

Cyrus - I posted earlier about my 1st Phoenix that burned my throat on every hit - I cleaned it, dry burned a little, re-assembled, filled and it was even worse - the second one I opened and filled worked great - I think you hit on the answer in one of your other posts with the advise to THIN the wicks (not just trim) after cleaning - I went back to that first one and after cleaning again, noticed that there was just a lot of wick at the two openings - with tweezers started pulling bits of wick out (carefully) until there was very little material at the openings - put it back together, filled and this thing KILLS - maybe this material isn't wicking that well and too much of it at the slots doesn't deliver enough juice to the coil - this was only one and maybe I was lucky (three fills later, no leaks) but if you're getting dry or burning hits, whadya got to lose??
