specs: the 12ml bottle of COV4 I purchased from CloudsofVapor contains a golden colored liquid at 24mg nic strength in a 100% VG base. Testing was done using a 2.7 ohm Ultimate CE2 clearo powered by a Young-June Vtube v1.5t set to 4.3 volts, providing 6.8 watts.
COV4 is
CloudsofVapor’s take on a custom RY4. I’m a little confused, though. The web site identifies it as “COV RY4,” but the label on the bottle reads simply “COV4” (with the four in a smaller font size as a superscript). And then the web page URL has
both names. Also, COV markets two lines of eliquid:
CloudPure Natural Organics and just
CloudPure, which is presumably not organic. COV4 is from the CloudPure line, implying that it’s
not organic, but the label on the bottle reads:
“Natural organic VG vape juice.” Perhaps that has to do with the tobacco flavoring, since all COV’s tobacco blends are in their CloudPure line. That makes me think that the tobacco is non-organic. I don’t know whether it’s natural extract or synthetic tobacco flavoring, either. I do know for sure that this is a 100% VG juice. Not only does COV say so, but it’s thicker in viscosity than PG/VG blends, wicks a little more slowly in a clearo, and produces tons of vapor. We're talking copious, Boba's Bounty levels of vapor, which, after all, befits the vendor's name.
This is a custom RY4 all the way, bearing no resemblance at all to classic Chinese RY4s. This ain't your Uncle's Dekang or Janty. I was reminded a little in vaping it of the gooey caramel in
VapeRite VR4, but this caramel is different---it's luscious, but more like a chewy candy caramel than an ice cream topping---and overall the juice is
much sweeter than VR4. I can’t isolate the vanilla, but it must be in there, because COV4 doesn’t taste like a straightforward tobacco-caramel blend. It has an unmistakeable custom RY4 tone.
The tobacco is potent (and good---no funny off-flavors), and tobacco lovers may rejoice at the ample flavor and punch of the tobacco, but this juice is definitely
not for RY4 aficionados who prefer their RY4s to be less sweet. Nor is it for those who like subtler RY4s. No, this puppy is an in-your-face juice where flavor is concerned. No nuts, no counterbalancing sourness, just tobacco, caramel, and a little vanilla. As a result, it’s sort of an odd bird---tobacco-rich, caramel-rich, intensely flavorful, and quite sweet. My lips were actually sticky after five minutes of vaping it.
I’d guess that this is an RY4 that might inspire both love and hate among those who try it. Some folks are likely to say,
“Wow, now this is what an RY4 should be!” Others, I think, may react in precisely the opposite way, questioning COV4's excess and lack of balance.
Having spent half an hour vaping COV4, I feel myself reacting in both ways. I can say with relative certainty that it won’t ever make my Top 10, but its boldness and amazing performance might prove seductive. I'm still vaping it as I edit this text. COV4 does have great flavor in both quantity and quality, but it might prove to be too much of a good thing. Time will tell on that.
CloudsofVapor makes one of my all-time favorite tobacco blends---
Black and Tan---which is my #1 cigar vape, head and shoulders above every other cigar eliquid I’ve tried. I doubt that COV4 will inspire the same reverie for me, however. I’ll be glad to have it around for times when I want an intense and sweet RY4, but it’s unlikely to get into my stable of daily vapes.
