This comparison has got me thinking about a conversion I had with one of the owners of MOV, they stated to me that they make a RY4 that is different for another company, I asked who that company was and was told they could not tell me so is it possible that vaporbeast is that company?

Comparison-vaping RY4s is my job. OK, got out my filled cartos of vaporbeast Holy Grail RY4 and MOV Classic CountRY4 (both in Boge LRs) here on my desk and put one on each of my two Kicked Bolts (both set to 9 watts). This way, I can vape one, then vape the other as quickly as I can put down the first Bolt and pick up the second.

First test: obviously similar. So, On Target is, um, on target.

In assessing how close they are, I needed other RY4s for contrast, so I grabbed my Acrylimax (another wattage regulated device, but so wildly mis-calibrated that 4.0 watts on the Acrylimax is about the same vape intensity as 9.0 watts on the Kicks). Tried Apollo RY4. Different from both VB and MOV. Tried COV4. Way different. Tried IKV RY4 Gold. Totally different. Tried Janty. Ridiculously different.

Looks like Holy Grail and CountRY4 are, indeed, brothers that share a remarkable similarity. I don't find them to be identical twins, though, maybe fraternal twins. MOV CountRY4's tobacco has a signature base tone that is both smoother and more eccentric in taste than VB Holy Grail RY4's tobacco, which is slightly stronger/sharper, with more bite, and a flavor that's closer to the center of the tobacco bell curve. The caramel/vanilla flavorings and mix seem equivalent, or at least not noticeably different.

If I vaped these two RY4s blindfolded, could I tell them apart? Well, now I could---having just spent five minutes vaping each one and thinking about the difference---but I'm not sure I could have identified which was which from a cold start. Makes me think that I should pull down Holy Grail to an A- and bump up CountRY4 to a B+, since they clearly shouldn't be more than a half-step apart in grading.

Personally, I like VB Holy Grail a shade more. Holy Grail's tobacco is a little more comfortable for me than CountRY4's. The oddness of MOV's tobacco base distracts my brain just a little away from pure enjoyment. All of MOV's tobaccos are a bit of an acquired taste for my palate.

Good work, On Target! By the way, your package of V4L Jammin went into the mails this morning and should arrive within 2-3 days. Paypal me your half ($11) of the order after it gets there.

Did Apollo RY4 fall off your top list?

dude,

I reshuffle the Report Card grades quite a lot, actually, during my RY4 comparison vaping forays. Usually it's only a half-grade up or down, but once in a blue moon an RY4 makes a more dramatic move.

Yes, Apollo RY4 got bumped from my Top 10 (or 13, whatever) when I returned Janty and IKV Gold to the "A" list this past week, so I demoted Apollo into the "A-" group. Nothing's cast in stone, however---next month Apollo might climb back into the top group.

passer,

Interesting possibility, especially because I seriously doubt that VaporBeast makes its limited line of only 12 juices in-house. Look at some suspicious coincidences:

VaporBeast Melon Head - watermelon and wintergreen
MOV Happy Farmer - watermelon and wintergreen

VaporBeast Epic - apple tobacco
MOV Applewood - apple tobacco

VaporBeast Divine - lemon cake
MOV Lemon Cake - lemon cake (duh!)

VaporBeast Mad Monkey - banana nut muffin, cinnamon swirl, and notes of blueberry pancake
MOV Legendary - banana nut bread, caramel, and chocolate

VaporBeast Kick Ash Tobacco - sweet, complex, full-flavored
MOV Tennessee Original Tobacco - sweet, complex, full-flavored, robust

VaporBeast Cool Beens Cappuccino - caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and coffee
MOV Caramel MOVaccino - guess what? caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and coffee

Add to those six the almost identical VB Holy Grail RY4 and MOV CountRY4, and you get 7 out of 12 juices that bear truly striking similarities/resemblances, right down to the vendor descriptions. I don't know if that's a compelling enough case to win in court, but it sure does make ya think, "Hmmm."

The question that arises is: Why would MOV supply VaporBeast with an RY4 that is almost a perfect clone to its own? Did they assume that no one would notice???

Not only do they taste like clones, look at the packaging. Both are in glass bottles with droppers, both have silver paper labels with black letters, the font is the same size on both labels, both have multiple nic strength boxes to be checked appropriately, the wording listing ingredients is almost the same - hmmmmm.

I agree with Bill, why would MOV do this?

specs: the 30ml bottle of Jammin I purchased from Vapor4Life (30mls is the only size they offer, so I went in 50/50 on the order with our colleague On Target and have now mailed him half of the bottle) is a golden-colored liquid at 24mg nic strength in an unspecified base blend (80/20 pg/vg, maybe?). I let the juice steep for five days. Testing was done by loading the juice into a 2.9 ohm Boge SR filler carto powered by a Kicked Bolt set to 9 watts.

This purchase and review were inspired by passerbyeus, who posted that V4L Jammin and Totally Wicked’s USA-made RY4 were among his favorite RY4s, in part because they were sweet.

Here’s the vendor description for Jammin from V4L’s product page:

“Treat and tame your sweet tooth with this perfectly balanced juggling act of mild, sweet tobacco and other sweet undertones. Visions of sugar plums may dance in your head, but vaping sensations of vanilla and caramel will twirl your tastebuds in delicious, dessert-like ecstasy.”

Given all that, my expectation was that I’d encounter a very sweet, dessert-type RY4. Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the sugar plum factory. Oddly enough, I don’t experience Jammin as all that sweet. Oh, it has discernible sweetness, but I expected more, almost over-the-top sweetness. To my tastebuds/nose/brain at least, Jammin is nowhere near as sweet as I assumed it would be. It probably qualifies as a Dessert RY4, but not by much.

On top of that surprise, I find Jammin to be more Classic than Custom in flavor profile. Jammin uses a mild, middle-of-the-road tobacco flavor, the kind that characterizes Classic RY4s. By that I don’t mean that the tobacco is lacking, only that it doesn’t stand out in the mix nor draw attention to itself, and the flavor profile of the tobacco stays in the center of the bell curve. The tobacco says “I’m normal,” rather than “I’m different.”

The bright, almost effervescent quality that I often associate with Classic RY4s is more emphatic in Jammin than in most Classics. The high-end of the scale is pronounced here. Trumpets rather than bassoons. I comparison-vaped about 15 other RY4s today before finding one---HitLiquid RY4---that was almost as bright as Jammin.

Most Classics are defined predominantly by their balancing of flavors, and Jammin is definitely a very well-balanced juice. No single flavor element grabs the microphone at the podium. Jammin is like the early years of The Supremes rather than the later years of Diana Ross and The Supremes---it's The Four Tops rather than Martha and the Vandellas. All the individual flavors sing together in what might as well be barbershop harmony. The caramel is ever-so-slightly more forward than the vanilla, but not by enough to be considered caramel-rich.

Overall, I find Jammin to be quite tasty. Sweet, balanced, and bright. No off-notes or weird flavors. No nuts. Just a very pleasing and basic RY4. No wonder passerbyeus likes it. I do too.

Thanks for that review.......the sweetness tricked me, the very first bottle of Jammin I got was so sweet it was the sweetest RY4 I have ever had, I even had trouble vaping it long periods, then the next bottle seemed really different with the sweetness and I just know it was not the same, I do also know after my first bottle they went out of stock and then back so there had to be a change. But all in all its a good RY4. Cant wait to hear thoughts on Totally Wicked Ruyan now..:vapor:

I take it MOV is not a big operation, so instead on making complete new line of juice they just worked with what they had and have, and what is good to them, but its not common for vendors to sell other vendors juices, at least they tried to change it some lol and not just throw a different label on it...... and I still have not got my Grail yet  its been shipped 3 days ago with only 1 state away.....

Cant wait to hear thoughts on Totally Wicked Ruyan now..:vapor:

I haven't ordered any of the TW yet, and can't even consider doing so until I get my new debit card (whenever that comes). Anyway, don't hold your breath, because it's not gonna be tomorrow. New debit card + ordering + shipping + steeping + testing + review = I have no idea when.

By the way, I have no axe to grind against MountainOakVapors. My gumshoe theories about MOV supplying VaporBeast's juices are not meant to imply wrongdoing or behind-the-scenes skullduggery. Yeah, I know I used the word "suspicious," but that was tongue-in-cheek. My only stake in our discussion is that I like knowing who makes the juices I might consider buying.

Some vendors choose to sell other vendors' retail juices and say so up front. VaporBeast chose a different route, that of having another vendor design or supply a juice line that VaporBeast can label as their own. That's fine, too, although I wonder about the wisdom of selling juices that might be nearly identical to those already retailed by your supplier.

If I were Tim at VaporBeast, I'd want my "proprietary" juice line to be more different than similar to that sold by my supplier. I haven't vaped any of those other 11, so perhaps all the others among VB's 12 juices are more different. All I know for sure is that the two RY4s---VB Holy Grail RY4 and MOV Classic CountRY4---are so close that they're nearly indistinguishable.

Post numbers of reviews are active links that will open a new page of your browser and display the linked review (making it unnecessary to hunt through the pages of the thread to find a specific review, which was always a royal pain). Also, RY4s by Category Groups will now appear in a separate post.

Please keep in mind that other people post RY4 reviews in this thread, often for specific RY4s and other juices I may not have reviewed. I don’t mean to slight my friends and colleagues, but just keeping track of my own reviews is as much work as I can handle, so you’ll need to do a search to find other posters’ contributions.

The Big RY4 List has seven sections:

1. Bill’s RY4 Reviews - Classic and Custom Retail RY4s, with links to the vendor’s product page and post number links to the initial reviews (and occasionally to follow-up reviews as well)
2. RY4s not yet acquired for review
3. RY4s that are no longer available for one reason or another
4. Bill’s Reviews of Other Juices (non-RY4s)
5. Bill’s Reviews of RY4 premixed DIY Flavoring Concentrates
6. Vaping Commentaries
7. Bill's Personal and Current Top 10 Favorite RY4s

The Really Big RY4 Report Card

The grades given for these RY4s are my opinion only. They are also current judgments and may differ from grades I gave in the past. So please understand that if you base a buying decision solely on this list, you might end up getting an RY4 that I like rather than one you’ll like, since my tastes and palate are unlikely to match yours perfectly---in some cases, not even remotely.

Within each grade, the RY4s are listed in alphabetical order. This kind of judging is ridiculous enough without splitting hairs or nit-picking between RY4s within the same grade.

For vendor links and original review post numbers, as well as Category Groups, please refer to the most recent update of The Big RY4 List.

Did I mention that these grades are my opinion only? LOL.

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with RY4, I have only tried the ECBlends RY4 (Extra flavor + Extra carm/vanilla).

I will be at work and crave the taste something fierce, go home and load up a tank... Take 5-6 pulls and love it, 10 min later I hate it.

Need to start dripping so I do no waste juice.
