This comparison has got me thinking about a conversion I had with one of the owners of MOV, they stated to me that they make a RY4 that is different for another company, I asked who that company was and was told they could not tell me so is it possible that vaporbeast is that company?
Comparison-vaping RY4s is my job. OK, got out my filled cartos of vaporbeast Holy Grail RY4 and MOV Classic CountRY4 (both in Boge LRs) here on my desk and put one on each of my two Kicked Bolts (both set to 9 watts). This way, I can vape one, then vape the other as quickly as I can put down the first Bolt and pick up the second.
First test: obviously similar. So, On Target is, um, on target.
In assessing how close they are, I needed other RY4s for contrast, so I grabbed my Acrylimax (another wattage regulated device, but so wildly mis-calibrated that 4.0 watts on the Acrylimax is about the same vape intensity as 9.0 watts on the Kicks). Tried Apollo RY4. Different from both VB and MOV. Tried COV4. Way different. Tried IKV RY4 Gold. Totally different. Tried Janty. Ridiculously different.
Looks like Holy Grail and CountRY4 are, indeed, brothers that share a remarkable similarity. I don't find them to be identical twins, though, maybe fraternal twins. MOV CountRY4's tobacco has a signature base tone that is both smoother and more eccentric in taste than VB Holy Grail RY4's tobacco, which is slightly stronger/sharper, with more bite, and a flavor that's closer to the center of the tobacco bell curve. The caramel/vanilla flavorings and mix seem equivalent, or at least not noticeably different.
If I vaped these two RY4s blindfolded, could I tell them apart? Well, now I could---having just spent five minutes vaping each one and thinking about the difference---but I'm not sure I could have identified which was which from a cold start. Makes me think that I should pull down Holy Grail to an A- and bump up CountRY4 to a B+, since they clearly shouldn't be more than a half-step apart in grading.
Personally, I like VB Holy Grail a shade more. Holy Grail's tobacco is a little more comfortable for me than CountRY4's. The oddness of MOV's tobacco base distracts my brain just a little away from pure enjoyment. All of MOV's tobaccos are a bit of an acquired taste for my palate.
Good work, On Target! By the way, your package of V4L Jammin went into the mails this morning and should arrive within 2-3 days. Paypal me your half ($11) of the order after it gets there.
