I would have liked to of seen the KY4 use the classic blend base too. I like the premium blend but for some reason it always seems like something in it makes my stomach hurt. IDK maybe it's just me, not a oh that's nasty sick to my stomach more like one of the flavorings doesn't agree with me. I've put it away and revisited it a few times to make sure thats what it was and it does it everytime.

It is really good. Reminds me a bit of Vermillion Rivers, but it is not nutty. Just a clean, complex tobacco.

Egad, another good tobacco.

I was thinking of writing: "So many juices, so little money." But, of course, that's hardly true in my case, given the extravagant sums I've spent on juices over the past year and a half. So perhaps I should write, "So many juices, so little money left." LOL.

Today, my mailman delivered my Vermillion River's KY4 (named by me). The born on date shows 3/12/2012, so I thought I would do a review. Let it be known, I am no billherbst. I can't drop similes like Lil' Kim dropping F-bombs. Nor can I paint my prose with metaphors. But I can tell you what I think. Now, where did I put my PV?

KY4 has Vermillion River's signature woody tobacco base. I love this tobacco base alone (Kentucky Premium Blend) or with the added flavorings (favorites are Vanilla and Peachwood). Not alot of sweetener was used to create KY4. It is like he took Kentucky Vanilla, and added Caramel.

The Caramel is a rich, creamy additive. It helps to sweeten the blend into a very good RY4. The caramel is very much like Mom & Pop's. Not bright and lively, more dark and gooey.

The tobacco and caramel stay seperate. They don't really blend into one flavor. I have noticed this about other VR flavored tobaccos. In Kentucky Cherrywood, I don't like the seperation. In KY4 I do. The caramel hits on inhale, the tobacco flavors the exhale, and vanilla is the thin twine wrapped throughout the voyage (this is why I don't use metaphors).

This is what I wanted from Vermillion Rivers, a good RY4 using their Kentucky Blend tobacco base. I would definately suggest this to anyone who is looking for a rich RY4 blend. There is plenty of flavor. TH and vapor are both good. This goes easily to #3 on my list (of 22 RY4s).

save me bill. your turn.

I got a sample of the Vermilion River the names VR4 at Vapebash. I like it so much I talked them into buying a 30ml bottle of what was then the unreleased flavor. I blazed through the 2 sample bottles and now am half way through the 30ml bottle. Funny thing is I had been on the site looking for VR4... I finally emailed and was told that that name was in conflict to another vendor. Another 30ml bottle on its way. I know to some the nuttiness is not liked but I feel it really adds to the classic Ry4 taste. At least to me.

Since I just drained my last bottle of Backwoods Ry4 I am switching to Vermilion Rivers Ky4 as my go to Ry4 kind of vape. Since I vape 3 to 5 ml of Ry4 a day (the other 8ml are menthols) I know that I can get the Vermilion when I need it and no more "jonesing" for a new batch anymore.

I am going to order 2 more bottles today and let it one steep to see how it changes.

The comments below aren’t really “follow-up reviews,” per se, but just short blurbs of my personal reactions, contrasting how I felt about each RY4 at the time of my initial review versus how I feel about it now. I’m “grading” these (A to F like we’re in elementary school, because that’s quick ‘n easy, and everybody gets it). As always, these are just my personal opinions, and the law of subjectivity applies. YMMV.

Ikenvape RY4 Gold PG---just shy of wonderful at first, same to me now. Definitely in the all-time Top 10. A-.

Janty Elixir RY4 PG Blend---wonderful at first, almost as wonderful now. The original RY4 and still kickin'. Too expensive, though. A to A-.

JooglerJuice Joogler’s Blend---only so-so then, still so-so now. Not nondescript, but slightly odd. C-.

KalamazooVaporShop RY4---pretty good at first, just about the same now. B-.

KickBassVapor RY4---disappointing at first, but very good now. The KBV signature base tone blended nicely after long steeping, and a very tasty RY4 emerged. C- to B+.

LiquidXpress Taboo---very good initially, good now. One of the "old-school" RY4s. B.

Mom&PopVaporShop RY4---terrific initially, just a tad less now. A- to B+.

Mom&PopVaporShop RY4v2---fantastic initially, terrific now. To me, one of the best RY4s ever. Both M&P RY4 and RY4v2 use Tobacco Absolute with admirable restraint. A-.

Mom&PopVaporShop RYO4---unique at first, good now. The Tobacco Extract used in the base won't be for everyone, but I like it. B.

Moondrop RY42---stunning initially, now very good. Appreciating the strong Tobacco Absolute is a necessity with this one. B+.

NiteLiteVapor Renegade RY4---pretty good at first, really good now. The flavor hasn't changed, I just like it better now. B+.

ParkesVaping PV4---good then, good now. More custom and much tastier than Parkes' other RY4---which, oddly enough, is called RY4, next on this list. B.

ParkesVaping RY4---not so hot at first, not so hot now. Run of the mill. C-.

PrimeVaping PV4---one of my faves at first, still very good today. Strong caramel. B+.

QuickNic RY4---knocked my socks off initially, fell a long way for awhile, now back to good. Tobacco base has a liqueur-like tang. A to C to B.

SpringVapor Fall Harvest RY4---pretty good at first, almost as good now. B to B-.

SpringVapor Black Label RY4---eccentric then, eccentric now. If you like unusual RY4s, this might be just the ticket. Not so much for me, though. C+.

SpringVapor Black Label RY4 Day and Night---extremely good then and now. More "accessible" than SpringVapor's other Black Label RY4. Less edgy, and more on solid ground. B+.

Sweet-Vapes RY4---pleasing then, just as nice now. A friendly RY4. B.

TheVaporRoom Ginger’s RY4---ordinary at first, better now. I'm not sure if it improved or I changed. Maybe both. B-.

That's 40 RY4s revisited, with another 35-or-so to go, including some that didn't impress me at all initially.

Nice bill, I rather like your new scoring system too, perhapes a little more manageable when you must have a good 50 or more Ry4's to order numerically by now!

Naturally I slightly disagree with Janty not being as marvellous as always, I just can't find anything which comes close let alone beats it! Having said that, i did try a nice Joyetech Ry4 recently, that was dam good juice and I'll be looking to order some more of that for review.

Stellar work as always bill.

Bill, Mountain Oak is currently working on a RY4. I told the owner she needs to send you a sample when she feels like it's ready and she said that sounds like a plan. She said that she has been reading over this review thread.

Thanks, jt. That's very kind of you, especially now that I'm sitting on the sidewalk dressed in rags with a tin cup full of pencils and a sign that says, "Please Help a Vaping Vet." Metaphorically, at least. LOL.

Bill- You should reverse Parkes PV and RY. Also Kalamazoo and KickBass. That fixes the alphabeticalness.

midfi,

As I read your post, my first thought was that you felt that the mini-reviews for those two pairs should be reversed, that Parkes RY4 is better than Parkes PV4, and the Kalamazoo RY4 is better than Kickbass RY4. Took me aback a little. Then I got to the end and realized you were talking about list itself. Duh.

Yeah, I listed them according to how the cartos are sitting in the rows of the 50-hole ammo box on my desk, where KBV RY4 comes before KVS RY4, since the carto labels use the vendor's acronyms. I just went down the rows and vaped one after another. But I see what you mean, and you're right of course.

OK, now it's fixed. LOL.

These two initial revisitation follow-up posts (this second one today and the first one some days back) were quick and easy to do, since all 40 of the RY4s are already loaded into cartos. The next bunch will get harder. After the last 10 in the ammo box, I'll have to start sifting through my RY4 juice cabinet to find the 35 RY4s I don't keep loaded, get out the bottles, and atty-drip all of those to see how I feel about them now. That'll take a lot longer. I don't mind the ritual of dripping, but when comparing lots of juices, the part I get tired of is the atty-cleansing: Unscrew the 306, blow it out repeatedly into a kleenex until no more juice comes out, then screw the atty back onto the PV and grab another juice bottle. Oy. That does get old. Oh well, gotta do it for the team.

After reading through this thread, I have been adding RY4 from just about every vendor I order something from (and all the locals that I visit) and dug out my old bottles of juice from when I first started vaping. I have a bottle of DeKang RY4 from 2009. I think it is *well* past its prime. For comparison, I have an RY4 from ejuicemonkeys in AR. Here are my notes, taken with a SR 510 atomizer on a lavatube vv:

DeKang RY4 24mg, steeped ~ 3 years: Very low expectations from this juice. It has been sitting out of the sun for far too long to really judge much from it, but here goes. The most prominent flavor that I get is a very smooth vanilla. Not a sharp or bright vanilla like a vanilla ice cream, but more of the woody vanilla flavor that you get from a good vanilla stout. The caramel flavor is very muted and in the background... doesn't really register as "sweet", per se. The caramel flavor really just adds a bit of complexity to the blend. The tobacco base is almost non existent until the finish, about 30 seconds after exhale. Slightly bitter taste. Was best on my equipment at 3.9V. Above 4.1V, I got a "burnt electrical tape" taste, and stopped there. Flavors were very muted below 3.7V. Overall grade: D (because it's probably long since gone bad).

eJuiceMonkeys EJM RY4: Very full and rich flavor as soon as the atomizer got juice to it. Caramel is the first flavor that I can pick out of the mix. The caramel actually tastes sweet, which fades to a slightly tannic vanilla. The specific vanillin taste that I get reminds me of MacCallan Cask Strength Scotch. The oaky vanilla taste blends very nicely with a smooth tobacco finish. The tobacco flavor reminds me a bit of the "Dunhill" flavoring from DIYFlavorshack, but more complex and fruity. Overall grade: B -. I'm very interested to see what happens when it steeps for a bit (been about a week so far). Will definitely be buying a 30ml bottle of this to hold on to.

Since we are being .... about alphabetization, shouldn't SV's Black Label flavors come before Fall Harvest!

hang (you dog!),

Well, yeah, if simple alphabetizing is the goal. I'm using a more complex and "sophisticated" system. He-he-he.

Spring Vapor created and sold their Fall Harvest RY4 first---before the other two---then later formulated Black Label RY4 and added it to the web site, and only recently developed Black Label Day and Night and completed their trio.

In the Spring Vapor RY4 "family," Fall Harvest was the first child, the oldest brother, and the responsible one. Black Label is the weirdo neurotic middle child, while Day and Night is the youngest---the Little Prince of the litter that everyone loves because he's so cute. LOL.

On the next revisit of 20 more, maybe I'll throw a monkey wrench into this little diversion by ordering them based on grade. LOL.

LOLOL he is the RY4 Vaping Master

ogredog and passerbyeus,

The thread made me do it. I would never have acquired (by purchase or gift) 76 RY4s if not for this thread.

RY4 vaping master? Sort of. Maybe. Some. Many of the more regular posters on this thread---including both of you---have palates every bit as good as mine and have vaped a lot of RY4s. Probably not 76, but frequently 20, 30, or more. It's a club, really. We are all simultaneously RY4 Kings and Court Jesters---bonafide experts and tiny fools (or posers). LOL.
