What I meant by others having it, is not their actual flavor, but someone else making something very similar. I have tried to match it myself, with WAY less than stellar results. Not even close actually.:glare:

I was a huge fan of the FSUSA RY4 when I first started vaping. Like most, I've moved on and my tastes have changed. But I do recall one other juice that, when I first vaped it, took me back to the FSUSA days. That would be want2vape's Rockstar juice. Dark, muddy, strong. Guaranteed to choke an atty in less than a week. Might be what you're looking for.

Has anyone tried the evaporclouds ry4? Got a bottle in today and its pretty solid, I'd love to hear what others think as I haven't tried many ry4s and don't know how this one stacks up.

teej9lfc,

No, I haven't tried it. Since I've purchased and paid for 57 of the 61 RY4s on the Big List, I'm tapped out for buying more right now. If you'd like me to review evaporclouds RY4 and rank it on the Big List, please send me a small sample bottle (2-3mls).

So I noticed that Ikenvape out a notice on their site saying their RY4 was unavailable due to the fact is has to go thought a steeping period. Given the responses I have sen on here about having to let a juice steep before it was ready to vape I wonder if any of the other vendors do a presteep?

I don't think many do... I know Vermillion River pre-mixes their juice (so, yes, they do have a "pre-steeped" stock). However, many vendors sell juices made-to-order.

Personally, I would rather get pre-steeped juices. This made-to-order method is pretty unnecessary considering the fact most vendors ask you to steep it when people complain about taste. It would seem to solve their problem about people complaining about a freshly made juice.

I agree, it would seem that they would be able to supply a better stock and also keep a steady supply that way. I know since I started vaping earlier this year I have already learned how steeping can improve a juice. Maybe as vaping continues to grow we will see an increase in this as more suppliers feel secure in having a large stock sitting on the shelf.

What about pinkspotvapors RY8 I find it very tasty. It claims to be twice as good as any RY4. I will not say it is by any means but I think it is a contender.

on3fifth,

"Twice as good as any RY4," eh? I assume this to be pinkspotvapors' effort at light-hearted humor---we'll say that it's twice as good, hahaha, and name it RY8 rather than RY4 (2 X 4 = 8). Oh, what a clever joke, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Yes, I think we all can figure out that one. [Wouldn't it be a kick in the head if it actually IS twice as good as any other RY4?]

If you'd like me to review PSV RY8 and rank it on the Big List, mail me a small sample bottle (2-3ml). Or you could review it yourself right here on the thread. It won't get ranked, but it will go into the Category Groups listings if you tell us which ones apply.

Yeah, I know, odds are 100-to-1 against anyone's sending me a sample RY4 to review, but just in case:

I am procastinator extrodinaire, but I have some (three flavors) I plan on sending you. Can I send you a homemade RY4? Will you rank "dude's RY4" in the big list? Save a spot near the bottom, lol.

Mail away, dude. I'll be happy to review "dude's RY4." As I re-state periodically, this entire thread is first and foremost about all of us having a good time. We're not doing rocket science here, and whatever rules we make up aren't cast in stone. There's nothing necessarily sacred about an RY4 on the Big List being commercially available or not. Heck, I might even add my own diy RY4s (I have four of them, and no, they're not gonna make the Top 10, Top 20, or even Top 30 of the Big List. But who knows? Yours might turn out be outstanding. If not, at least you'll have company with mine. LOL.)

If I get enough homemade diy RY4s from different people, I might even start a separate "diy RY4" list---complete with its own rankings, categories, and creator credits---if for no other reason than to recognize intrepid diy'ers. I'll even list the recipes if folks will include the formula and ingredients with their sample. (Can't do that with my own diy RY4s, since they're all ongoing hodge-podges, like a stew you make, eat half of, then add more ingredients to end up with a full pot again...)

A funny thing happened yesterday on the holiday countdown to 2012. I went to my mailbox and there was a package from CrystalELiquid, which is the newly-launched American juice-manufacturing offspring of U.S. and Canadian vendor Electronic-Cigz.com, which sells (among many other items) Altsmoke’s now-classic Silver Bullet and Omega tube mods.

CrystalELiquid touts itself as “the new U.S. premium e-liquid,” and promises that its juices are “100% U.S.-made to the top specifications, highest grade ingredients, and the most exacting scientific testing, and production to produce the ultimate juice---crystal e liquid.” Not exactly what I’d call perfect grammar or composition, but you get the idea.

I opened the package to find two 30ml bottles of RY4, but no invoice---just a business card from the vendor. What’s funny about this is that, while I did visit their site recently because Electronic-Cigz had a holiday sale, I don’t remember ordering anything. I checked my spreadsheet and online bank and paypal accounts, and found no record of payments to either vendor. (I have accounts with many vendors, but Electronic-Cigz is one of those that requires AOL, Yahoo, or Google User IDs to register accounts, and I never do that. On those sites I just order as a guest, so unfortunately there are no records of order histories to access later.)

And even if I’m too brain-damaged to remember ordering some RY4 from CrystalELiquid, I wouldn’t have ordered 30mls, and I sure as hell wouldn’t have ordered two 30ml bottles (at $20 a pop). But there they were, sitting on my desk in their pretty blue glass dropper bottles. One was 16mg, the other 24mg, both 50/50 PG/VG blend, filled with really thick liquid of a pale gold transparency in color, as close to clear as any RY4 I’ve seen.

Despite the fact that it’s a mystery to me how I got them, I figured that a new RY4 deserved a review. So, I loaded up a Boge 2.0 ohm carto, grabbed a freshly-charged eGo clone battery providing 4.2 volts for almost 9 watts of power, and vaped away.

Didn’t take but about two tokes for me to realize that while this is a custom-made juice with U.S.-sourced ingredients, it has a definite Chinese pedigree. As I’ve written before on this thread, the Chinese are unmatched at producing “classic” RY4s that are well-made and beautifully blended. Janty, Dekang, Hangsen, Keemer, HealthCabin, and GreenhouseOne RY4s all share a family resemblance. Add to that their American kissing-cousins, Dulcis, Bloog/Volt, Taboo, Elixir, and Riskee---which might be manufactured in China, for all I know. Anytime vendors don’t specify American-made, I tend to think that their juices are probably made in Chinese factories).

Well, CrystalELiquid does loudly proclaim “U.S. made,” but this RY4 is clearly of Chinese lineage. Please understand, I’m not suggesting that they’re lying, but rather that CrystalELiquid has concocted an RY4 that has all the wonderful qualities of the best Chinese RY4s. That’s a good thing, and no small feat. If you like classic RY4, this liquid is just what the doctor ordered.

Overall, CrystalELiquid RY4 is superbly blended, with lovely balance among the trio of classic RY4 flavorings---tobacco, caramel, and vanilla. It barely inches into Dessert-vape sweetness, and also comes in just under the wire as Caramel-Rich. But not too much of either. No obvious sweetener, and a caramel that is recognizable but not dominant. No nuttiness at all. Like all good synthetic tobaccos, it tricks the brain into thinking “tobacco” without actually tasting much like tobacco.

The 50/50 PG/VG blend gives fine performance---with ample flavor and copious vapor. Throat hit is smooth but adequate at 16mg (I didn't try the 24mg, which probably hits harder).

All in all, this is a very good RY4. Delicious and classic. I can’t quite justify a Top 10 ranking (since my personal preferences lean more and more toward natural tobacco extracts), but I will definitely make room for CrystalELiquid RY4 in the Top 20.

Big List Ranking: #17
Category Groups: Dessert (Sweeter), Caramel-Rich, Balanced/Blended

Two criteria are used for these rankings. The first is my own totally subjective personal opinion, meaning what I like and don’t like. That constitutes about 80% of the ranking. The other 20% comes from my assessment of the general popularity of a given RY4. If it’s wildly popular, that will improve somewhat whatever ranking I’d otherwise give it based on my personal reaction.

If you might base a buying decision on this post, look to the Category Groups rather than the Rankings, since the Categories are a more objective (meaning less opinionated) and reliable guide to RY4s you might like.

I’ve added something new to make the rankings list more relevant. Each RY4 is now followed by a numbered post, which is the original review of that juice. So, if you want to read my initial opinions about any RY4 on the list, now you don’t have to wade through 100 pages to find the review. (Please keep in mind that original reviews are not cast in stone; my opinions often change over time, along with sometimes major shifts in the rankings.)

One juice made a significant move upwards in the rankings this time. Goodejuice GJ4 powered up from #22 to #10. I have felt that the Top 10 deserves to have at least one RY4 that is tobacco dominant (as opposed to dessert sweet or caramel rich) and is also made using natural extract tobacco. My former choice for that slot was Mom&PopVaporShop RY4, with its base of Tobacco Absolute. Having vaped GJ4 for a couple of weeks now, I’ve come to feel that its natural extract tobacco base is better than I judged it in my original review. At the time, I found it very good, but I preferred the Absolute-based extracts in both of Mom&Pop’s RY4s. GJ4 has won me over, however. Now I feel that GJ4’s tobacco base is downright superb, perhaps the best natural tobacco extract I’ve ever vaped (which is saying something, since I’ve tried most of them). As a result GJ4 take over the #10 spot and nudges M&P RY4 out of the Top 10 to #11. If GJ4 continues to impress me, it may move even higher…

RY4 Rankings (includes RY4-variants)

#1-10…...Superlative, Nectar of the Gods
#11-20.…Very Good, like fine wine
#21-30….Good, well worth vaping
#31-40….Close enough for horseshoes
#41-50.....Only So-So, but still acceptable in a pinch
#51-61.…Passable on a desert island with no other juices
#62….….So weird it makes my skin crawl

I have purchased from a number of companies you have reviewed. I got a sample pack from quick nic... while I thought their RY4 was a bit too sweet for my taste, I loved their plain tobacco blend lol.... Looking forward to trying AVE. Keep up the good work! Still haven't found a RY4 that rings my bells... maybe I just don't like them, but I can say this is one thread I LOVE to read! lol. Plus it opens my eyes to the different custom artists out there :p

I sent you a bottle of Hotvapes RY4 and I cant wait to see where you put it on your list. I have not found an RY4 that I like better yet. So,maybe when you try it and rank it,I will know which direction to run . I am going to try Mom&Pops next. Thanks for the list and all the work it would have to be to maintain it.
The Hotvapes is a Toffee Marshmellow Tobacco joyride.

Flying W,

Well, that should bode well for a positive review. I tend to like RY4s with toffee. Toasted toffee Kick Juice is one of only a handful of RY4s or variants that I vape on a regular basis anymore, so I'll probably like Hotvapes RY4.

Someday I'm going to have to dig into this sweetener business. I mean, what's the difference in terms of flavor chemistry between ethyl maltol, cotton candy, marshmallow, creme brulee, etc. Given that they're all essentially ethyl maltol, I'd like to know the particular flavoring ingredients added to make each one taste more like its namesake.

Interesting that GJ4 should jump up like that ... though I totally agree, it is a great flavor and I plan to order more when I'm sure it's going to be the "new process" that's more carto-friendly. I also want to find a really good caramel and try my hand at blending a personal version based on GEJ's Patriot.

It was also interesting to get some insight to your review process/thoughts. My own opinions seem to change over time and sometimes just over the course of doing the review, and I've been working on how best to express that when it is relevant, so ... good stuff to think about.

Though I wonder if it's even worth reviewing an RY4 type flavor anymore; it would be almost too tempting to take a peek here to see what the resident expert thinks first. ;)

Vapian,

Thank you. You're very kind.

I feel that it took me about two weeks of daily vaping to truly appreciate GJ4 (and Vita Bella, too). Given the increasing size of the Big List of RY4s, the rankings (which were, are, and always will be sort of silly) are harder to assign with any certainty.

I admit to liking the increased "street cred" I have now on ECF because of this thread. And yet, I am also just another Bozo on the Bus---fickle, full of beans, insufferable at times, and subject to all the ills, flaws, and failings that come with the territory of big-brained, relatively hairless, upright-walking mammals.

So please, do continue reviewing RY4s. We all need each other's help, and even when we're not particularly helpful, the entertainment value is essential in these disturbed times.
