For some time I've searched for a convenient program or website with which to create a graphical database for something useful. Certainly RY4 ejuices are in a realm both useful and with significant documentation and original content.

I've tried various interfaces, programs and web sites and not come up with anything that seemed to work to my satisfaction. I did create some basic graphics with a desktop program or two.

A little over a week ago, I got a newsletter from one of the sites I had signed onto for this effort. I took it as a reminder and went back to the site for further examination. I thought it just might work.

I've put Bill's RY4 Evaluations into a web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI). This allows for a different approach to examining his work. At this point it can only be considered a 'work in progress,' or 'preview.' It is unknown what further development it may go through.

I don't think Bill will mind if general comments on the RY4 Evaluations GUI are made here in this thread. Technical matters, corrections and such might be best handled by private message.

Bill has been gracious in response to my queries and has helped clarify numerous matters for me.

Hint: It may be useful to utilize the 'Pearltree' (host site) arrows and back and forth buttons rather than your browser’s back/forward buttons. It may or may not make a difference based upon what browser you may be using.

Otherwise, enjoy!

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Pearltrees.com other than utilizing this free Beta service to host the RY4 Evaluations GUI. The RY4 Evaluations GUI Preview has no commercial connections.

Here is a question for Bill or anybody. Does KickBassVapor's RY4 have any maple in it? Not like MtBakerVapor's RY4, but more subtle?

I was vaping some GJ4 for a few days, then switched to KBV's RY4. It may just be the change in caramel flavor, but I get hints of maple. Anyone else?

Hangy, Kick Bass is my RY4 of choice these days. I am vaping it right now. I taste caramel first, then tobacco, then vanilla. That's all I taste.

RY4 question: So since I am jonesing for a new vape, I am revisiting the vapes I remember liking, but can't remember why. Who remembers or still vapes VR4 by Vaperite? What do you like about it?

I do. What do i like about it? The ooey gooey caramel, not candy-like, but instead reminiscent of thick liquid caramel ice cream topping. Not particularly sweet, but oh-so-rich!

sandy I am afraid I must give VR4 thumbs down. Far too weak flavourwise, tastes mostly like VG with a molecule's worth of caramel. Might need to steep longer. Makes me sad because it came so highly recommended. Also it is unhealthy for clearomizers.

scarf,

Steeping has never done anything particularly wonderful for my VR4, and I've ordered it four times over 20 months. The only change I noticed with aging was a slight flattening of the flavor in what felt like a diminishing of the juice's "aliveness" or vitality.

Heaven forbid that I should invoke the generally bogus urban myth of your having gotten a "bad batch," of VR4, so I won't waste our time going there.

Suffice it to say that it doesn't sound as if we are vaping the same juice. If we are (and we may be), then it takes the "flavor is subjective" mantra and pushes it out to the level of two brains living in different virtual realities.

In my experience, all of VapeRite's natural extract tobacco contains considerable particulates. I clean whatever cartos or clearos I use for VR4 from time to time, mostly because that dark band that accumulates at the bottom looks a little gross and gunky. I don't notice flavor impairment, but the look of it gives me the willies. So I rinse out the clear cartos under hot running water until the the filler is nice and white again, then refill.

The good news, of course, is that no one insists that you like VR4. We're blessed to live in a marketplace (for now, anyway...) that offers a virtual cornucopia of wonderful juices. Don't like one? No problem, move on to another.

Bill,

I was expressing alternating regret and confusion over my half-dozen Vaperite juices over on the Natural Tobaccos thread. The only ones I've kind of liked are the regular non-organic RY4 which is very good but not exciting, the Perique which is a bright and fruit-tinged tobacco which I quite liked when it wasn't sending my atomizers into early graves, and the excellent but weird Batch 21 which purports to be a caramel tobacco but which to me, tastes rather stunningly of (of all things) lychee. Bizarre, I know.

Because I am feeling magnanimous this morning (the terror of that plane trip took a while to wear off) I am giving VR4 another shot in my customary DCC rather than the clearomizer I was using on the other thread. I am testing this on my Siam 14500 mod, since my charger has mysteriously soiled itself and refuses to charge my Provari batteries.

First positive: big fluffy clouds of vapor. This is a fog liquid, no doubt.

Second positive: I finally notice the caramel everyone is talking about. Very rich and mouth-filling but not sweet.

First negative: There is still very little tobacco flavour, if any.

Second negative: the VG oiliness is still too present, even at only 30%.

Thankfully I have found a medium in which this liquid works well enough for me to continue vaping it. Since ordering E-liquid is such an expensive proposition for me (I'm looking at minimum $16 shipping per order, usually) I hate to be disappointed and will usually go out of my way to find nice things to say where possible.

specs: The 5ml sample bottle of MaddCattVapors Maddhatter RyJ5 that was graciously sent to me for review by our colleague dcav (thanks, dcav!) contains a medium-amber-colored liquid at 24mg in a 50/50 PG base. Testing was done by dripping into a debridged 1.5 ohm Joye 510 atty on an 18650 Phidias Woodimus providing 4.1 volts for 11 watts of power. That wattage is higher than I would use for cartos/clearos, but for atty-dripping it works well.

Note: Madcatt uses a lowercase “y” in the name of this juice (RyJ5), as they do with their two RY4s (RyW4 and RyJ4), but I prefer to go with my usual practice of capitalizing both the R and Y.

Retail juice makers have taken to the idea that RY4 is part of a series of numbered RYs. When they decide to mess with the basic recipe for RY4 and stretch the flavor envelope by adding other, more exotic flavors, at least some of those juice makers change the RY number as their way of telling us that we should expect something different. We now have various vendors selling RY1, RY2, RY3, and so on, all the way through RY8. If we wait a little while longer, no doubt we’ll see an RY9. LOL.

Between classic RY4s, custom RY4s, re-numbered RYs, and RY4s with entirely different names (Dulcis, Taboo, Tribeca, etc.) the landscape is as clear as mud. Buyers never know what they’ll get, especially with the re-numbered RYs. Despite some vapors who believe in the false logic of fantasy standardization (such as, “RY3 is less sweet than RY4”), no reliable guide exists to the flavor profiles of these supposedly similar juices. You have to vape each one to know how it tastes.

Here’s the description of MaddHatter RYJ5 from the MaddCatt site:

“This is RyJ4's darker side. Tobacco is Bold while the caramel is light, the sweet is there, but it only whispers.” (Readers who want to know what RYJ4 tastes like can refer my previous combined review of Maddhatter RYW4 and RYJ4 in post #2548.)

OK. Stronger tobacco, less caramel, and reduced sweetness. Sounds good to me, especially since we have so many dessert RY4s that are light on tobacco and heavy on caramel (such as RYJ4).

Imagine my surprise then upon vaping RYJ5. Yes, compared to RYJ4, it is less sweet, with lighter caramel. But compared to RY4s in general, it still seems to me caramelly and fairly sweet. Also, the “bolder” tobacco has an odd flavor that is more spicy than truly tobacco-like. Compared to, say, Mom&Pop RYO4 or CrystalELiquid RY4 Double Tobacco, RYJ5 may disappoint hard-core tobacco lovers (although it might please those who love sweet spices).

I’m actually glad that this juice isn’t named RY4, because it doesn’t taste like one. Not even close. I’m not really sure what it is. I guess I’d call it an exotic spice blend with caramel and a little tobacco. This does not mean that RYJ5 is a bad tasting juice---it’s interesting, and some vapers will enjoy it a lot---but it’s not a native-born citizen of RY4 Land. Instead, RYJ5 is a mere tourist, or maybe a visiting foreign worker or grad student with a green card.

MaddCatt MaddHatter RYJ5 grade: D+ (not as a juice, per se, but strictly as an RY4)

Category Group: Distinctive (Atypical)

I agree, couldn't place the taste of Batch 21, till you said lychee, lol. Maybe, but definitely not the light caramel as described on the website. It's closer to the APV tobacco, IMO. Anyway, I didn't vape much of this one, can't find it in the cubby so guess it was filed in batch 13. I finished the bottle of VR4, but did find the flavor a little lacking so won't be ordering anymore. However, I really like the Tobacco Vape juice, it's mild, smooth, and sweet. Surprisingly, I liked the fruity flavor of the Perique tobacco. It's not normally the type of tobacco that I would vape, but I found it refreshingly different.

That plane trip sounds dreadful, hope you're ok! Great you are finding pros as well as cons on VR4 in your second try. That's a very helpful review, thank you.

Exactly what I would call RYJ4. The novelty of it wore out pretty quickly for me.

Sandy,

Yeah, I'm afraid I wasn't personally thrilled with any of the three MaddCatt RY offerings. I've taken their grades down a peg for the next update of The Big RY4 Report Card.

John,

WOOHOO! See everyone? John agrees with me! It is a lychee tobacco! It's always a relief to hear that I am not crazy (or at least that someone else is the same kind of crazy LOL)

And I did like the Perique a lot but I only got a 3ml sample worth, so I haven't got any left to fill a DCC.

I am tasting a whole bunch of juices from a new-ish vendor: vapingmad.com.au. Friends, even if you have no intention of ordering, keep that URL to show to new vapers... this is one of the most beginner-friendly websites I've come across. Unlike many sites, they don't simply regurgitate the press release language accompanying the products. They actually write descriptions that are easy to understand. How about that?

They haven't got an RY4 yet, but they do have some other nice tobaccos.

Totally Wickeds Patriot Range RY4...... I did not sell my soul to the devil for this RY4 or did I?:D

When I first started vaping Totally Wicked was a vendor that people on ECF did not like I am not sure what happen or why but it seemed there was always someone complaining about them. So being the noob I stayed away from them plus the prices was always to high for me. Thanks to this thread I finally did get some of RY4 to try from them.
I am not sure if this juice is custom or not it is very much like a China clone, it is said this juice is USA made but I really think the ingredients are from China. I will not worship this juice but its good and it made it to the top of my list fast and there will be a reorder for 30ml. It is a perfect RY4 the mix is balanced, you will get everything expected caramel, vanilla, and tobacco some sweet, some sour a little sharpness and a little brightness, as I keep vaping I think the Devil its self made this juice to get you hooked. There would be no need to steep this one and if you did I really dont think it would change much but just with growing longer horns:vapor: I regret never trying this RY4 before because I have missed out but very pleased now and it was worth the wait. I said I would not worship this juice but I dont think having a little devil in my life will hurt....to much ........if your into RY4s and want the real thing this would be it, the price to me is still high but for what you get its worth doing the dance....
