specs: I purchased both a 10ml bottle of RY4.5 and a 30ml bottle of RY4.5 diy flavor concentrate from BlueMist. This review will cover only the retail juice version of RY4.5. The diy flavor concentrate will get its own separate review in due course. The all-VG 18mg nic liquid is a transparent pale gold color, with a pleasing but very lightly scented nose that gives no particular indication of the juices flavor. Testing was done with a 3.0 ohm Boge SR carto powered by a variable-watt Kicked Bolt set to 9.0 watts RMS.
RY4.5 is a new offering from
BlueMistVaping. Although the RY4 that BlueMist has sold for a long time has its loyal fans, that juice is so eccentric that it bears precious little resemblance to a typical RY4. Its interesting but weird. BlueMist developed RY4.5 to fit a more traditional RY4 flavor profile, and theyve succeeded in their particular fashion.
RY4.5 lives in the gray zone between a classic and custom RY4 flavor profile. While the tobacco is bright, like a classic RY4, the basic flavors are distinctly separate, like a custom RY4. I didnt find that the flavors melded at all (which might change with longer steeping, but I doubt it). Thats not necessarily a criticism, however. Beautifully blended RY4s can be delicious, but so can RY4s with distinct flavors. Which kind one prefers is a personal preference rather than an objective criterion.
The question then becomes: If the flavors of BlueMist RY4.5 are distinct and individual, how good are they? For me, theyre, well, OK. Not great, but acceptable in a pinch. The tobacco is not among my favorites, but it passes muster. It's bright and punchy. The vanilla is the best of the base flavors to my palate---smooth and creamy. The caramel is another matter. RY4.5s caramel flavor reminds me strongly of BlueMists Caramel Tobacco liquid, which is a popular and very potent blend. That caramel is bright, candy-like, and artificial tasting to me. Personally, I would prefer a calmer, deeper caramel. Generally, my experience of BlueMist juices is that their flavors are extremely bold rather than subtle, designed for people who like in-your-face flavor intensity.
With RY4s acquired for review, I dont order extra flavor, because I want to experience the juicemakers idea of how the vape should taste. Options of nic strengths and different base ratios may make that intention less valid, since everything we alter about a juice changes the end result, including hardware delivery systems. I thought that choosing 100% VG might diminish RY4.5 expected boldness of the flavor, but its still more aggressively flavored than most RY4s Ive tried. Obviously, vapor production is enhanced with all-VG.
As far as I can tell, BlueMist has achieved its objective. BMV now offers two very different RY4s: one thats weird but interesting (BlueMist RY4), and the other thats much more normal and---at least for lovers of intense flavor---moderately acceptable quality (BlueMist RY4.5). In other words, I'm not in love with this RY4, but (as always) your opinion may differ.

Oddly enough, RY4.5 has disappeared from the BlueMist web site. At least it was missing when I went to the site just now to copy the URL for a link. I dont know what that means, but Ill include an alternate link for the RY4.5 flavoring, which is still for sale:
