The Really Big RY4 Roundup (long)

I think the coffee is one is Kick Back so if I mixed the RY and Express I would get a RY4 coconut nut mix CR65 lol, I should stop saying coconut but thats just what it reminds me of, as of today at times I am getting a dry smokey vape with hints of sweetness, but when I first picked it up that odd taste was overpowering then it seemed to hide into the mix, I like my RY4 a little sweeter and the dryness reminds me of VaporBith OuR-Y4, this would make a great replacement for someone who is trying to stop smoking, which is what RY4 was supposed to do in the first place, RY will not make the top of my list but sure will not be at the bottom unless I find out there is something else there which I really think there is but the mix as a whole or one of the 3 could be playing a trick on me.....With RY and really any juice volatge is important but I find with this juice it is making a strong statement around 5.5V and up with 2.5 ohm, at 6mg this is a really really nice ultra light replacment...When i got it in yesterday it was nice and thick from the cold 50/50, I dropped into hot water today and now its nice and thin getting ready to go back to room temp, will see if I can speed steep this stuff...

specs: the 15ml bottle of Our RY4 I purchased from MyVapeJuice contains a dark brown, almost opaque liquid. That makes me think the juice is probably made with MyVapeJuice’s proprietary in-house NET (made from local, organic broad leaf tobacco). Nic strength is 18mg in a 30/70 PG/VG blend. Options include added sweetener, but mine is unsweetened. Since this is a custom-made-to-order juice (born on date was 12/18/2012), I let the juice steep for a week after receiving it before testing and review. Testing was done in a 1.5 ohm SmokTech dual coil carto powered by a VAMO set to 9 watts.

Here’s the description from the MyVapeJuice product page:

“I could not be happier with the outcome of this recipe. Our RY4 is a combination of tobacco, caramel and vanilla as well as other special ingredients. It is slightly sweet but our recipe does not contain sweetener. It is better than good!”

Such sincere enthusiasm from Diane---MyVapeJuice’s owner and juice-mistress---is a good sign. She obviously cares and takes both pride and pleasure in her juices.

I’m not sure what the “other special ingredients” are in this Custom RY4. What comes through for me are the three core flavors: tobacco, caramel, and vanilla. I taste no sourness and no obvious nuttiness (there might be some nut flavor, but if so, it’s subtle rather than obvious). MyVapeJuice Our RY4 is a bit brighter in flavor profile than many other Custom RY4s (despite its very dark color). Throat hit isn’t killer potent but is easily enough at 18mg to satisfy me. With a 30/70 VG-dominant blend, vapor production is more than ample.

While I wasn’t thrilled with the NET extract tobacco flavor of MyVapeJuice’s straight tobacco juice, My Hero Tobacco, whatever flavorings are used here for the Our RY4 tobacco base please me. There’s depth and potency, and nothing in the tobacco flavor distracts me from enjoyment.

The hangdude and I differ about the overall flavor profile. For him, the juice was dominated by a “deep, rich caramel,” with flavors that didn’t meld, and an almost dessert-like sweetness. My experience differs. I don’t experience the caramel as particularly deep or rich. Instead, I get a broad caramel-vanilla as a single blended flavor experience that is held aloft by the strong tobacco base. The only sweetness I can taste comes from the ingredient flavors themselves. MVJ Our RY4 isn’t “un-sweet,” but as formulated in my bottle, it’s worlds away from a dessert-style RY4.

That shows either that taste is subjective, or perhaps we were vaping different juices. LOL.

Where we agree (mostly) is in our estimation of MyVapeJuice Our RY4 as a good example of the Custom RY4 genre. I don’t love it quite as much as the dude did (he gave it an A rating), but I’ll give it a B+, which is pretty darn good in my book.

I received my order of Indigo RY in the mail yesterday - born on date is 12/21. This juice was good straight out of the box, even better this morning. So, what will a few more steeping days do? I agree with Bill and Passer on this one. This one is a keeper for sure. The mystery flavor? I am detecting a hint of coconut AND honey. Not much, but seems to me that coconut and honey are blended together for a 4th element to the tobacco / caramel / vanilla. Whatever it is, I like it. Another unique custom RY4 and this one is outstanding IMO.

I must be like Bill and add a disclaimer though - taste is subjective and YMMV, LOL.

specs: The 10ml hard plastic drip-top bottle of Vapebar RY4 that our ECF colleague scarf-ace sent to me as a zero nic doubler from Australia for review (thanks scarfy!), which I then turned into a 20ml bottle of 18mg nic liquid in a 50/50 PG/VG base, contains a golden-colored transparent liquid. The scent is fairly strong and pleasantly RY4-like. Since I made the juice, I let it steep for two weeks. Testing was done using a 2.5 ohm Smoktech dual-coil carto powered by a variable-wattage VAMO set to 8.5 watts RMS.

Here’s what Vapebar has to say about their RY4-LE:

“RY4-LE is a Limited Edition Release. We love this flavour but have found our ability to source required concentrates consistently is difficult. If RY4 is something that you have tried in the past and not enjoyed, give this one a try. A unique blend which is very pleasing on the palate. There is a sweetness to this blend, but not a sugary sweet. With a subtle but not overpowering tobacco undertone that grows stronger after maturation and steeping. Optimal steeping time is up to 4 weeks, however this flavour can be enjoyed straight after mixing (it does improve even more with age).”

Australia has outlawed sales of eliquids that contain nicotine, so Australian juice vendors sell “doublers”---juices with zero nic and twice the normal flavoring. Users then add liquid nic and PG and/or VG to get a finished juice at whatever nic level and base ratio they want. Flavor intensity depends on how much extra liquid is added. Use an equal amount of nic base, and the flavoring amount and intensity will be “normal.” Add less than 100%, and the result will be a liquid with “extra flavor.”

Since so many of the variables that affect overall flavor profile, throat hit, and vapor production are chosen or controlled by the vaper rather than the vendor, reviews for such juices are more anecdotal than would usually be the case with typical pre-made American nic juices. Two people can buy the same doubler from a given vendor, but end up with substantially different-tasting juices.

With Vapebar RY4-LE, I chose to make the liquid at 18mg nic in a 50/50 PG/VG base with normal flavoring. Throat hit of my finished juice is present but modest. The flavor of the juice is instantly recognizable as an RY4. It has some Custom elements, but RY4-LE leans more toward the Classic profile. The juice has some brightness and is both balanced and blended. These are Classic traits. In addition, the Tobacco is integrated into the flavor profile and doesn’t stand out, another Classic characteristic. More steeping time may bring out the tobacco more, however. The caramel and vanilla are in harmony and center-stage.

The juice is moderately sweet, but not close to dessert-sweet, with a definite, fairly strong sourness to counterbalance the sweetness. Because of this pronounced sourness, Vapebar RY4-LE emulates all the Janty RY4s, although the core ingredient flavors (tobacco, caramel, vanilla) taste somewhat different as individual flavorings. Janty’s caramel and vanilla are deeper, while RY4-LE’s are slightly creamier. I pick up no nuttiness.

OK, so how good is Vapebar RY4-LE? Well, I think it’s pretty good, but I’m not sure. That’s not a criticism of the juice, by the way. The juice is fine. My uncertainty has to do with my recently having reviewed a whole bunch of RY4s in a very short time---11 RY4s in two weeks. Friends, that’s a heck of a lot of RY4 testing, tasting, and reviews crammed together very closely. My palate/taste buds feel more than a little blown out. I can taste OK, but I don’t know how to evaluate what I’m tasting. Basically, I don’t entirely trust myself on this one. I’m certain that RY4-LE isn’t bad, but I’m less certain of how great it may be. It might be brilliant or just pretty good. I honestly can’t tell.

Since few readers will be likely to go to the trouble, time, and expense of obtaining Vapebar RY4-LE from Australia and then mixing it themselves, the question of how good it is becomes more academic than pragmatic. I think it’s good, but RY4-LE might be better than I realize. I’m going to stick it in the B+ group because that’s fairly safe. If my reaction firms up after my palate recovers, I’ll adjust that grade up or down.

Just a quick update on my PV4. I've let it sit for a bit and the aroma is much more pleasant! Excellent customer service and juice is great. Something must have been a spot off with my first order but they handled it. I order a few more bottle of some other juice from them and great stuff so far! Just wanted to make sure nobody got a bad impression from the issue I had with my first order from them.

The Really Big RY4 Report Card

The grades given for these RY4s are my opinion only. They are also current judgments and may differ from grades I gave in the past. So please understand that if you base a buying decision solely on this list, you might end up getting an RY4 that I like rather than one you’ll like, since my tastes and palate are unlikely to match yours perfectly---in some cases, not even remotely.

Within each grade, the RY4s are listed in alphabetical order. This kind of judging is ridiculous enough without splitting hairs or nit-picking between RY4s within the same grade.

For vendor links and original review post numbers, as well as Category Groups, please refer to the most recent update of The Big RY4 List.

Did I mention that these grades are my opinion only? LOL.

You're welcome, JB. The hard work was learning to custom-title URL links and links to specific posts. Now that I have the three files all set up, it's mostly maintenance. Sure, it's still time-consuming, but I don't think of it as hard work at this point. What's cool is how useable the Big List is.

So I got my NashvilleVapor Professor Marvel’s Master Blend wow thats a long name, Bill and some others have already touched on this one but I so have to give my .... Ok I will not disagree that this stuff is from MOV, If its not then I should just stop vaping RY4 right now becuz I must have no idea what I am talking about. but since I do know a little about RY4 and my bank account is proof of that , I have to say that im 99% sure this stuff is made from MOV, I find the same tobacco base, caramel, and just a crap loud of vanilla to make it different, did I say this stuff has vanilla in it. I mean it taste like a vanilla cookie, some one in TN most have run out of ideas and said lets add 50% vanilla to make it different , my deal is I like to think of RY4 juices in the way if it reminds me of another juice or is it unique, PMMB falls short for me in two ways not only does it taste like something from MOV it also reminds me of NLV Bounty Hunter because it has that over vanilla cookie taste to it but it has a better tobacco base then BH so it would make a perfect replacement since BH is a hard one to get. In the end I would say its not a horrible RY4 but its not one I will purchase again....

All good points worthy of consideration. I didn't have the same reaction, but that's not to imply that you're wrong. I can see it from your perspective quite easily. I agree enough that I dropped Professor Marvel down into the 'B+' group. I hope you noticed that Totally Wicked Patriot RY4 made it into the 'A' group, and V4L Jammin got an 'A-." I wouldn't have reviewed either of those if you hadn't shouted about them.

lol A+, well my friend that is a hard one since i find a new RY4 about every month that is better then the rest then get tired of it in a couple weeks, but the one that stands out the most and last the longest in my purchase history is Mountain Oak Classic RY4 but I have grown away from it and really do not have one thats unless they bring Raf back which will never happen

The thing is, I don't have to choose just one RY4, since I have 120 of them.

OK, OK, I'll play along. If you held a gun to my head and asked me, first I'd give you just my name, rank, and serial number. After you cocked the hammer and asked again, I'd say... (wait for it...) VaporTalk Dulcis!

Why? Well, it might be because Dulcis is ranked #1 on my ever-changing list of Current Top Ten Personal Favorite RY4s. Strangely enough, however that's not the reason.

The reason is: Because it's no longer available!

With the death of the VaporTalkStore as a vendor and the shutdown of the Forever Vapor web site, Dulcis is now defunct, along with every other juice VaporTalk never had in stock. So, up until now, you couldn't get Dulcis because it was always Out Of Stock. Now you can't get it because it's been discontinued and isn't even for sale anymore.

Will Dulcis be resurrected and eventually become available again from another vendor? I haven't a clue.

All I know is that when the Interrogators strap you to the chair and hook up the electrodes, the only card you have left to play is to give them bogus information that will be of no benefit to them.

So, there you have it. The one RY4 that gets an A+ (other than the mythic "lost Dekang RY4" from 2009) is VaporTalk Dulcis. LOL.

I wish I'd known that the VaporTalkStore had gone belly up before I posted the updated Big List, Category Groups, and Report Card. Oh well, it can't be helped.

So, RIP Dulcis. It joins the list of top-rated RY4s that have shuffled off this mortal coil and vanished into The Great Beyond, which includes the lost Dekang 2009 RY4, BWB RY4, and AVE Raf-a-licious. We hardly knew ye.

Let the grieving begin. But then, as the late lamented George Harrison so famously stated, "All things must pass."
