Hi Darrel, is the kid gonna be able to handle the snow? He is going to have a rude awakening to the cold isn't he?

AZ
LOL. as a native Californian, AZ was my first real introduction to weather.

i remember first learning the rather novel idea, that in some parts of the country, people actually need to check the weather report before making plans for the day. that held true in the summer in the desert, as well as a winter in Flagstaff.
I'm from Cali originally too. Never have acclimated to the desert heat here in Phoenix (been stuck here for a decade). But I'd have to say there's no real reason to consult a weather report once you get past May. You're basically going to spend your time indoors by the air conditioner till November, so you just make your peace with it and find new ways to entertain yourself. Like the Internet ;)

i spent a few summers somewhere between Flag and Phoenix working on a ranch, back in the 70's. it was my weight-loss program :)

one winter, i talked a Flagstaff buddy into heading out to the sticks to go practice shooting. bad, bad idea... that was my first introduction to black ice, blinding snow flurries, and 3600 degree spins (360 degrees x 10). we haven't talked much since...

i don't get actually living in "weather" :)

To me, Phoenix is to hot as where I was born and partly raised is to cold, namely Red Lake, MN, a Rez about 45 miles below Manitoba/Ontario Provinces in Canada. Colder than a mother-in-laws kiss, the 3 I had, as MILs that is, proves the rule. One of 'em was the cheif test pilot for Bissell Broom, she always filed IFR.
