Hi Scott!

I have to try out linux on a couple PC's I have rusting away... I have a couple at work that I use. But I didn't set them up so I'm not so confident I can mess around with it yet.

What's the best OS? We run Debian at work.

I use Puppy but it is mostly for extremely old pcs and laptops

i use to use Puppy live cd without a hard drive. It runs in ram/memory

A friend of mine sent me an email when he was stationed in Iraq in 2002. He never really used a PC before. It was all in caps. It was difficult to read. But, the message was wonderful. He told a story about his commander talking about their missions and their deployment. How they had done what they needed to do. He then told them their mission was complete and they were coming home! 5 months early! So after a little over a year he was coming home!

So I never ever complain about caps!

What's the best OS? We run Debian at work.

The most user friendly Distribution is Ubuntu. (It is based on debian, so you should feel right at home.) The only other one I would recommend for home use is Fedora (Red Hat). Those are the ones that are most active and therefore have the most active support group. I have run Ubuntu for several years now, and it seems to work pretty good. I have few problems with it, or getting any other software to run on it.
