Morning everyone. Well I did it! I built my first micro coil on my new RM2! First attempt it metered at .81 using 28g wire. Put it on my VV and would not fire. Well played around with it and adjusted and think I did not have one post screw tight. Got it wicked with rolled cotton and vaped great for first couple hits then I burnt the cotton! Figures! Re wicked and working fine now. I just have to get used to this squonking with it. I always used shorty cartos and you could see the juice start to come up into the well. With the RM2 you can not see the well because of the size. Is there a general rule of thumb??? Like three hits then squonk???? I think I was spoiled with the easy and convience of just slapping on the shorty cartos. This will be a learning curve for me. Guess I will have to carry around some cotton with me at all times!

I agree with the previous poster of 1-4 hits per squonk. You can also use silicon wick. People use the 1mm wick doubled with ease. I am currently trying it myself. Once you make the coil, you can take a wire doubled through the coil, and take the silicon and put it in the doubled wire to pull the doubled wick through the coil. I would recommend that you test that out as well. You might like it as well as cotton and not have to wick as often. If you continue to use the cotton, just remember that you cannot over squonk. Anything is better than a dry hit on cotton wick.

If you can understand american baseball I might have a 1 in 1000 chance of understanding cricket. Does a game actually last for days and that there's tea breaks too?

Oh, cricket is even simpler than rugby. The "pure" form of the game lasts 5 days, and they have tea and lunch breaks. Nowadays you get limited over games that last about 8 hours and the newest form, which is very popular, lasts 3 hours max.

Now we are overloading you with info, Cheri. I use the method Sam describes above, but I do not have 1mm silica wick, so I just disentangle the threads from 3mm silica and use 2 strands doubled, which is the same as 1mm doubled. Pictures always say it better, so here you go:

I think for a VVG 30 or 32 gauge might be better to use. OR you could use a bigger diameter thing to wrap around with the 28.

I bought 100ft of 32 gauge. I found I like the 28g much better for the Grands. Now using the 32g for my VV REO's.

You are totally right that a larger diameter will give you fewer wraps with the 28g to get the ohm value that is best for the VV Grand.

Thanks everyone! You are all so helpful. I guess I will let this one go until it is dead and then try more wraps and maybe different wire to get to a higher ohm.

You don't need different wire. Make larger diameter coils and a few more wraps. The 28 gauge will do it.

It might be a few trial and error, but that is what I did. I would wrap a coil and ohm it making note of the number of wraps. If I wanted a higher ohm I would add a wrap or two and ohm it again. Yes, I did use a little wire, but it is cheap enough it didn't bother me!

You will learn quickly just what you need to do.

Good morning everyone!

Thought for the day:

The human race has had long experience and a fine tradition in surviving adversity. But we now face a task for which we have little experience, the task of surviving prosperity. ~Alan Gregg

Hi Jamie - that one made me contemplate just a little longer. We'll or are probably create(ing) our own adversity!

Good morning REOvillians.

It is finally getting cooler at night! I had the windows open overnight and it is downright chilly. It's 57 F out there, which is practically freezing considering I am used to desert temps over 100F.

I am looking forward to soup, stew and roast season. We are having a ham tomorrow night, so it's time to make some split pea with the ham bone :D
