The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
Then I will take my observation as CONFIRMED: new crock pots are hotter. They should put some sort of warning on them for those of us who are used to the older ones, tossing out a pulled pork would piss me off too! The new one does have the warm setting, but I never thought to try that as equal to the low on my old one :thumb:

Ya and the pork was the last of a whole pig I had smoked on a spit in my back yard so I was doubly triply ......

Damn Darrel, that really does suck :(

Guess it's time to get a new pig then? You can get the teenager to help you, maybe he will be good at it and surprise you? Have you found something he excels at yet?

I do like to use the crock for it so I don't have to watch it so closely. In a regular pot on the stove, I have to stir quite a lot or it may scorch. DH got me a new crock and it is much hotter even on the low setting because it is some special sort of one that you can lock and carry with you and holds the heat. I used that one last week for it and it scorched it. Also, I heard they were upping the heat level or something for low on new ones so as to get food above the "danger zone" quicker, so if you have an old one vs. new one, use the older one for thick stuff like split pea. My old one never poisoned me, so I just thought someone could use that tidbit on crock pot temps :)

Oh, and I bet you can never guess where he bought the new one?

COSTCO!!!

Good evening Val, Darrel, Scott...and whoever else may be around. :D

i cook them like any other bean i add bacon and or ham onion garlic and salt and pepper they tend to cook faster than pintos so no need to soak them overnight

well, hell, that's how i make Cheerios or corn flakes...

Good Evening, all. just woke up from an old man's nap and now i'm starving...

There you are! I was wondering where you were tonight. I don't think I am going to try your Cheerios recipe, GMO free or not!

Did the elephants upstairs wake you?

Ya...I suppose so. wish it was snow though. Glad I live on a hill and not down at the bottom. It's been kinda stormy for a few days, but the weather people are all wound up. :)

they prolly did wake me up, now that you mention it.

been mainly lurking the last day or so. thought i cracked a rib, but it's getting easier to type now. it should be fully healed by the time i find out if i actually have health insurance under the new plan.

fortunately, it wasn't a chicken soup-worthy injury, so that all still goes to Ed :)

After all the work she had to go through finding that chicken and putting it in a pot and everything? Sure you don't want a bit o' soup lovingly made for you? I mean, you could at least PRETEND to like the cybersoup. Poor Jen, so unappreciated. You do realize she is the REAL chef here right? :glare:

i see your sick Ed hope you get better quick buddy

Hey Scotty, Thanks buddy. Sorry for the delay I passed out cold. I don't know what I have but it robs me of all energy. I'm usually pretty high energy. Drinking tons of water and tea, echinacea, vit c, zinc, lysol everything and hundreds of handwashes. Lots of soups and stews. Nothing else to do but wait it out. If it wasn't for the room spins I'd just power through it. Can't drive like this. I'd leave the lot and just take a right over the fire hydrant and down the bank lol.

Aaand back to the couch...:)

Dang, did you get your flu shot? The nasty one that was around a few years ago is back again. I was in ICU during the last one and it wasn't pretty. I have been getting a ton of calls wanting to know if I can come back which means ICU is busy, so please take care of yourself and rest. And have you seen a doctor? Maybe it isn't the flu?

I am all worried about you now :(

Maybe it is drinking the lysol? You really shouldn't do that...

Good morning Reoville. Hope you all have a great day. My daughter and her babies are heading back home today. Their time here went too fast. My new crock pot will put a low boil on high. I do as Darrel does and put it on high for the first couple of hours then turn to low. Mine has the rubber seal around the rim of the pot.

I have a question that I'm sure someone here can answer. I cover a chicken with water in the pot and add some goodies. After I remove the chicken, the remaining water is stock? Do I strain it? How do I remove the fat in it? Cool it down in frig then skim off the fat? Just add some veggies and noodles and chicken and I have soup?
