Hi RF!
Have been thinking about you lately, and the Skagit River bridge collapse. Hope it hasn't affected you too much. What did Wash DOT decide to do? are they putting in a temp bridge for now or rebuilding?

My dad powered his pleasure trawler from Camano Island to Virginia Beach a couple years ago and said the Skagit Bay/ Port Susan area around Whidbey Is. is just gorgeous. I hope to visit someday. Would love to visit all those state parks too! I would love to live up there in the lush forests, sounds and rain. (Yes, I'm one of those oddballs who loves rain--especially running in it on trails.)

Hope all is faring well up there!

Oh I could go on for days about what they're doing and not doing. :glare: Up here in Bellingham, we're relatively sheltered from most of the fallout because of our lovely Canadian neighbors. But it is having a severe impact on Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties...everyone is staying away from the area and they rely largely on revenue from outsiders coming to shop the outlet malls and tourism. Fear of traffic is doing a lot of economic damage.

The good news is they had a number of detours figured out within hours of the collapse. The new routes have been adjusted and congestion is down to a dull roar now. They have a plan...I don't like it, but it's a plan and they're going forward with it.

The temporary replacement section is being built and is scheduled to be installed mid June...hopefully :glare: It will be smaller than the rest of the bridge and maximum speed will be 35mph. Once that is in place, they will start construction of the permanent replacement section right next to the bridge. They estimate it will take 5-6 months to complete (sometime in the fall) and 2 weeks to remove the temporary and move the permanent into its place. Essentially, they're building 2 bridge sections and disrupting traffic for a minimum of 2 months overall. If they just built the permanent one and did it in a month, everyone would be better off in my opinion. See 1989 San Fransisco earthquake, double deck bridge, 10 lanes of freeway, replaced in 31 days by Rigging International. So as I said, the good news is they have a plan and are taking care of business...they just aren't going about it in an efficient manner in my opinion and the surrounding communities may pay a heavy price...just when everyone was digging their way back to prosperity in a region hard hit by the recession. OKAY....stepping off my soap box now.

And yes...it is a fantastic place to live, work and play. The rain is an integral part of our region and most of us enjoy it for the most part. It's just those 90 day stretches of rain that get old. :)

The 3rd and 4th photo are not mine...they're google grabs.

Good afternoon Reokin,

Been trying to catch up all day here, everytime I get close I need to tend to Zippo. He's a true herder, already able to run like the wind and give chase to toys and in games that we play. He's dead tired and sleeping at the moment after a romp outside. He woke me at 5am this morn which doesn't sit well after our Sunday beer bust last night.

I wish all going on trips a safe journey and remember to bring back pics.

Hi Rhapsodies,
I agree re: temp bridge vs. permanent repair.
Thanks for posting the GORGEOUS photos!!!
Seems like it's just be crazy all over our country for quite a while (weather,"acts of God", terrorism, etc.)
Prayers for you and for all our REO family hit by recent events.

< Stocking up for hurricane season - double beer and gasoline - oh, some water for HRH too! Solar charger for phones and batteries! i must fire up the generator to make sure that works, but that can wait till next weekend.

I acquired a bbq and metal kettle and all supplies (i HAVE to have my coffee when i get up) and boards for all the windows now.

I am the opposite of people that chase storms.. i head in the opposite direction usually! When i was single - it was easier, because then i only had myself to worry about, but if anything happened to HRH, the Dutch Mafia would be after me!

Agreed... :nun: Hoping for a quiet summer for all. :)

And you're welcome....I have tons of them...and now that I have my new camera, I intend to have a lot more in the coming months. There is no shortage of beauty in our region. that is for sure.

Okay...backup is finally done...backed up 111GB. Geez. Back to work for me. See you all later.

Lucky you! I wish I had that much to back up :( I have 10TB of space. I am putting a decent dent on it too.

Places where my stuff is backed up:
1. In the computer (one copy each on two HDDs)
2. Online of all my finished work
3. On a HDD in a cabinet next to my desk
4. In a drawer of a desk at my buddy's work.

God forbid but if my house burned down I would have two copies, online of finished work and the originals at my buddy's desk. I rotate them out every two weeks. One of my HDD from the computer goes to my Buddies work, the one that came from my buddy's work goes in the cabinet next to my desk and the cabinet one goes in the computer.

Pretty crazy over the top but I sleep good at night :D

Ya...I'm working out that plan right now. Each production gets zipped and uploaded offsite. Then backed up on my 3TB external HD. And of course on my hard drive. But for some reason, I'm just scared it's not enough. I produce two magazines a month plus whatever flyers my clients want me to build among other things. Since we own it, I'm terrified of losing it all. Yes, I can rebuild all my files if needed...already got some practice in on that when I had a little oops two months ago and accidentally deleted 6 client folders without a recent backup so they were just *poof* gone. :( Oh well, live and learn I guess.

I would just add one more HDD offsite. :D

Sweet dreams, Pietro :)

Frank, I sure hope you have fallen asleep by now....I can't imagine how frustrated you must be. Sending you comfort and quiet.

Hi Lisa, been up all night, really frustrating, just getting ready to go too work now, got jobs booked in, so got no choice, but hopefully I'll be dead on my feet tonight, & be out like a light
Frank
