Jen, if you get a chance pick up some cheesecloth. Probably the easiest place to get it is at the grocery store in the kitchen utensil isle. It gives a very clean, pure flavor, (yeah, I know, that's subjective), and wicks incredibly well.

It takes a little trial and error to find the right size wick, I started out too big and the wicking properties caused it to choke off the airflow. I now make them considerably smaller with vastly improved results.

Simply cut a small rectangular piece, roll it with the frayed ends toward the inside then, depending on the diameter of your coil either double it over or just slide the single roll into the coil. (It will swell considerably with juice so you don't want it too tight in the coil when it's dry. Leaving one end of it long enough to lay in the base of the rba will wick up the juice and restrict, if not eliminate dry hits.

Seems to work really well and $3 of the stuff will last you 6 or 7 lifetimes.

(I'm not sure how dog hair will effect its wicking properties.)

Jack
Thanks Jack, I'll add it to the list of experiments, minus the dog hair of course.

Thanks for the pointer, Commie! I will try that next time and see which I like better. Would definitely make putting the wire in the post holes a lot easier. I might miss that TH though, my juice is only 8-10 mg nic. I kinda like cranking up the VV and letting it kick me a little.;)

Hmm, maybe I should try to change my juice. 70% PG with 24mg nic was all good for cartos, but atomizers end up with too much TH.

When I was dallying with cotton wicks, I used 2 different wicks - square braid cotton candle wick and cheesecloth. Although neither one suited my vaping style, the cheesecloth was more difficult to work with but gave a vastly superior vape over the candle wick. That's not to say that the cheesecloth was hard to wrangle, just that the candle wick was easier to work with.

Update~ Two hours in and loving it now. Best flavor and vapor ever. Definitely needed more wick, I guess I was vaping pure coil. The cotton still drys out faster than I would like and will definitely be getting some silica, bamboo, yarn, etc...to experiment with.

Now my only problem is Woody Woodvil is still sporting a Joye atty and is feeling very neglected.

Della, that coil is so perfect it looks store bought, already made!

This is seriously the nicest looking coil I've seen! It looks like it came straight from the factory, very nice job!

What gauge are you using? It looks like 30 and you have a lot of wraps lol. I'm guessing you're using it on a VV because I probably wouldn't get anything out of that with my regular Grand. I'm having a lot of problems trying to get the legs into the post neatly like you do, but after seeing your picture I think I just need to have my legs longer than usual.

How are you making your coils so nice? Do you twirl it around something first and then thread the wick through or do you just roll the wire around the wick from the beginning? Also what are you using for your wick? It looks so nice and manageable compared to cotton ball wicks for sure.

Just made this one and think it is going to be my best so far.

I think I may be confused about how many embroidery threads people are using. I was separating out four strings from the main thread. This time I doubled over the entire thread, giving me 12 strings.
Other than the thread dilemma, does anyone see anything wrong?

...by the way, I love that I can lift the top off and peer in without having to unscrew anything.

As soon as my site is back on line I will add some gaskets

I am hoping to see some replacement screws up there soon...I'm afraid to replace the coil anymore because the screw heads are nearly stripped out on mine :\

I hope I don't have to go back to a 308, lol!

I use an antique hat pin to wrap the coil. 32 gauge, meters out at 2.5 ohms and yes, it is for a VV. I leave one leg long, and clip one fairly short. Put the long leg in first and screw it down then put a crook in the short leg with tweezers to be able to angle it in the hole. I leave the coil wrapped around the pin as I do this and get the coil right were I want it before I tighten the second screw. (The RBA is not attached to the REO during all of this) When the coil is set, I remove the hat pin and pull embroidery thread through it using a little piece of wire folded in half, with the thread in it.
99.9% of this learned from other REOnauts, I cannot take credit. :)

I destroyed the top of one of my screws. I kept messing with it and today I finally got it to turn with a flat head screwdriver. I basically made a groove in it that caught it enough to turn. Now I don't know if I can get it to tighten down and come out again!

I want some replacement screws for it too!!!

I think we have uncovered a ringer among us. My guess is her screen name is short for;

Della Cirque Vaping Supplies and Poodle Grooming Emporium

If there's a better looking coil and wick than that I've never seen it.

Just in case you don't want to read the wall of text I just posted:p

Just a suggestion but if you wrap your wire around a say...2ml drill bit you can make bigger beautiful coils and run more wicking material through it. I'm just assuming that a hat pin is small than a 2ml drill bit. :) That really is a beautiful coil. :)

Shhhh, Jack, you are getting close to revealing my master plan.
I know Rob needs somebody to come polish mods, wrap coils and feed porkies.

Thanks Terry, I'll give that a try. Good to see you. I catch glimpses of ya, but haven't talked to you in awhile. Hope all is well with my favorite biker chic!

Thanks Jen. I keep an eye on the REO forum but I'm not into chit chat so much so I only jump in anymore when I have something to offer. Everything is good. Hope the same is true for you. :)

How does the poodle do for wicking? I have Pomeranian and Italian Greyhound hair, both seem to not wick well.
You have to boil them first- silly

I know Cats vape pretty well once you boil them!!
