i'm pretty sure a regular cyclone fitted in a standard grand - it has to be under 14mm diameter. There was a list of atties that fitted on the old Reo forum. It'll be in the archives!

As someone who has modified a standard grand to a LP, then to a fused connection rather than a spring and a different firing contact and pin, i have to agree with Rule62.
I'd not buy a standard grand today unless it was either for a project or in superb condition to keep as a collector's piece.

I concur with the trunker. No advantage to having a tall boy grand. The deeper cup was designed back in the carto days and was meant to catch the spills. The only purpose would be to capture a piece of impending history.

That said, yup, the regular cap cyclone fits in it. The afc cap version will not. Your chalice and graal and/or divo, should you decide to go ahead with them, would work, too. Plenty of other atties would, as well, (speed, viper, RM3, etc.) but why live with this restriction if you didn't have to.

Milling the cup is fairly straight forward if you needed to pull it down later. It's just aluminum. In fact, it's so easy that your biggest issue is milling too much (that, and getting the milling plane wrong).

I have one with a year old build. Dry burn and brush the metal off, looks good to go again and again! Total mind punk tho, as it seems to me there would be some residual gunk in the nooks and crannies I cant get to. Tastes fine, vapes fine, everythings fine but still... its a year old! Plus, from a different view, it'd probably cost at least $90 for wick to do all the mods for a year where $12 of VCC will last well over a year. More labor by rewicking but worth it when you can get new fresh wick in there when needed and not have to decide between a new mod or some wick.
Another thought about the RxW, have you ever noticed when you cut the dry wick, there are tons of teeny tiny fibers let loose? I am curious if those fibers give a bit of throat hit (or worse) as they are pulled into my lungs on a draw. I have learned to wet the wick before cutting and to not touch it as much as possible and (obviously) try to keep it fully saturated with juice but I cant imagine once that stuff is in the coil, there would be no fibers relieved of their position. I must admit, I used to use RxW much more than cotton, bringing it with me from my dripping days (roller coaster builds anybody?) but started weening myself off the more this thought was in my mind. I still have it in 2 or 3 mods but lately I've been rockin the VCC heavily.
Yes, I have noticed the little fibers that are created when cutting RxW and that is why it was pointed out in one of the 2 RxW threads over in the Reo thread to wet the wick before cutting it. It has also been discussed at length and there is no factual evidence that it could actually harm you anyway so I never worried about it. IMO, there was never anything easier, regardless of where you were, to just dryburn the RxW in place and you were ready to go with fresh wick on the go...

As a reference point to why I stayed with RxW for the last 2+yrs of my vaping... I was doing the usual landscaping at a clients property and bent over next to their pond to pull some weeds and my grand fell out of my pocket and directly in the edge of the pond and was submerged in about a foot of water... I promptly reached in and retrieved my grand, walked over to the house and rinsed it off with the water hose, dried off my battery and knocked out as much water as I could slapping it against my other hand and pants leg, dry burned the coil, squonked some juice, and then proceded to vape it like I stole it... All within about a 10 minute time frame, 10 miles from home where all my vape gear was!! I certainly couldn't have done that if I was using any other wicking and it helped me make up my mind I was using the correct wicking for my vape habit and that it was unnecessary to carry a back up device on a daily basis while I was working!!

What ever works for is though!!
Robert did point out he is not making standard grands anymore, maybe that factors in why I want one as well, I mean I could always mill it down if my something happens to my low profile but then again all I plan to use is my 3 cyclones and chalice III. Ahh decisions
With no mfg's making 14mm atty's and no one using stick atty's or carts, there is no reason for Rob to make a device with the taller catch cup on it anymore...

Yea you guys are right. I just liked how the attys sat so nicely in the cup and no gap to be seen. The gap drives me nuts. Maybe I have OCD. i could adjust the 510 but I'm also OCD with the air hole position.
That is why you should use the o-ring under the atty. It is to help in getting the air hole in the right place and to keep it taught in place...

Unlike many others here, I have two Renaissance Grands that I use for daily beaters, and I wouldn't part with them, ever. Also have two VV Grands, same catch cup. And two VV Woodvils and an older Woodvil.
Most of my newer Reos just sits there. Never quite needed the adjustable 510 - with a multitude of RBA's available just swap them out to position the air hole. The P67's and flat top woods just seem to always leak on me. I have one beautiful Woodvil that the RM4 leaked until the door swelled, and now I have to leave the door off because it jams tight.
Catch cups with RM2 or Chalice III, the only way for me.

Does anybody still do custom signature banners around here ?

Nice! Rockin' it classic style (at least, in the age of RDA's, that is). Those VVG's are awesome - like a windowed VW van.

I have a couple of 14mm atties that I prefer to use on a tall boy grand, myself. I know exactly how you feel, PB. :toast:

You can borrow mine. I won't be needing it again until around November.
