I feel so sketched now using ss316l I enjoy the vape off it but I don't want my resistance changing and causing issues
No issues, it doesnt change base resistance. It goes UP in resistance when you fire, because of the TCR which is also why SS can be used in temp control. Then it falls back to base
It is a predictable fluctuation and perfectly normal.

316l is designed to be woven into your flesh. I would personally much rather vape off that than kanthal. Haven't touched kanthal since I found 316l.

Wow this is a much cooler vape! I'm at a .49 coil it's cooler than my .6

That's because the resistance of the coil rises, as the coil heats up. It's the nature of SS wire. The resistance rise is exactly why some people find it so much smoother. The resistance of a Kanthal coil remains nearly the same, whether cold or hot. SS doesn't. It's also why many of us who use SS wire build our coils at a somewhat lower resistance than we build with Kanthal.

Me too. Kinda weird, I've tried a few times with different builds and resistances, something about SS "tickles" my throat and triggers a little cough.

It's good to have choices. I didn't like the vape with SS on non-regulated mods, and went back to Kanthal.

I find the flavour profile of the juice varies between kanthal and ss - particular notes get promoted with one wire or the other. Most probably, this is a "simple" heat flux difference side effect, but it is there. This means I'll sometimes make a wire choice to get the best (to me) flavour.

The biggest issue with this strategy is remembering which builds are ss and not to treat it like kanthal when rewicking/cleaning.

Other than that, they're just two tools in the box - even in a (gasp) regulated squonker, I run straight power, not tc.

I'm a nut case, I admit it. But I keep that stuff on index cards, LOL.
What build is in what mod, flavor, resistance, etc.

I used 316 for sometime and liked it. After a while, I thought it irritated my throat and mouth. I quit and returned to Kanthal, it went away. I have read that 316 is not exclusively SS and has nickle (perhaps) and that some have trouble with nickle. I am by no means either a metallurgist nor am I an allergist so I can only report my own experience.
That was disappointing because, before the irritation, I liked the SS; it was smooth and never got to hot for me.

316L SS is about 14% nickel. The other primary element is chromium. It's why stainless steels are sometimes referred to as chromium nickel steels.

SS irritates me. So does kanthal. But not nichrome, which has more nickel than SS316L... IDK what base element I react to

I used to do similar - I wrote all the info on tape stuck to the inside of mod's door. Change it up, remove/replace the tape.

In time, I settled on 3 go-to builds in 3 go-to atty models running 3 go-to DIY juices. I know what I've got going on in a setup at a glance.

Cards, though. That's dedication. Or sumpin'. Do you flash quiz yourself?

Is there a more "pure" SS, for lack of a better term?

It's not a matter of purity. The presence of nickel and chromium aren't impurities. They are components of the metal.
316L is used in surgical implants. Artificial joints, stents, and other medical parts are made of 316L.
Kanthal and nichrome is used in toasters, electric stove elements, and heating coils.

Kanthal will rust. In fact, it can rust through until changing the wick will cause it to break.
Me personally, I like the K.I.S.S. method...
REO Grand..... Check.
RM2...... Check.
7 wraps of 28g Kanthal on a 2mm drill bit for a 1.4 Ohm coil (how many times have I done that ???)
KohGenDo cotton wick.... Check.
Same great flavor. Loving it.

Looks like Duffield, VA is home for the evening. Sipping on a Hardee's strawberry milkshake, unwinding fro my 14 hour day.
