I went through 3 or 4 Ryobi 'throw aways' before getting my Husqvarna. I would get a year or two out of them, before having trouble. Of course, here in Florida, we use stuff like trimmers year 'round. Echos and Stihls are also good products. Homelite products were also good, years ago. But they seemed to have become focused more lately on the 'homeowner-occasional use' market, rather than 'professional grade'.
Because I do landscaping in the summer around here I had to get something that would stand up to the punishment that I put it through. I did a lot of solid research and found Echo to be among the best for daily use. Very high reviews all around and better than any other brand out there. The only thing I have bought from Stihl so far that has passed the test is my chainsaw, but then again, thats what put them on the map basically!! I had a trimmer from them that didn't even make it through 1 summer. They exchanged it no problem, but I passed it on to a buddy that only uses it a couple times a month and it has lasted him so far. I am still searching for a good leaf blower though... I am almost convinced that a high quality one doesn't exist!! The best I've found so far is a Craftsman but is very high maintenance... I probably go through a plug and air filter a week on it, but I get almost 2yrs out of the motors. Thats a year more than any other brand out there...

I've also had good luck with Echo's. Been using their leaf blower also, no problems.
They (unfortunately) all get used about 48 times per year.
Time to do yearly maintenance again...
Mine gets used at least 48 times a week!!

Hi Gang -

Anyone building at or above 1 ohm on their REO? If so, would love to know some of your favorite builds (wire, # of wraps, bit size, etc.)

Thanks, all!
I target my builds @ 1 ohm on both an RM2 and a Challice III. 28 gauge kanthal around a 2.5 mm bit. Previously I build to 1.5 ohms but noticed a sharp decline in flavor once the battery voltage dropped a little. Playing around with the calculators on steam engine helped me understand why and I changed my ways. YMMV.

My favourite build for a long time was a 32g kanthal parallel spaced 4 wrap on 5mm silica that hit 1Ω every time. In a RM2.

Now i'm on the RxW wagon too, but my builds are lower.

Thanks for the advice on the weedeaters, i've stored that for when i lose my temper with mine :)

8 wraps of twisted 30g, 2 mm ID always seemed to net out at 1 ohm. It's a little fat for a chalice, but the RM2 is accommodating.

I'm a cotton wicker, myself, with a penchant for a scottish roll (not needed with a squonker, but I find they reduce leaking when carrying about the village).

As for weed eaters, I have a beefy electric whacker that does the trick - no difficult starts, no parts in need of service (other than line refills). Suckers been going for 8 years, semi-daily use during the growing season (April - Oct here).

Using 28g kanthal, I will do 6/7 wraps around a 2mm drill bit. Gives me a 1.4 ohm coil for my RM2.
