I, too, don't follow Pdibs thread much, but have had dealings with him via PM. He is really great to work with, never pressures, and does everything he can to make a person happy. It took me a year and a half for my Pinch, and he's the one who got ahold of me and let me know. Him and Rob are definitely cut from the same cloth.

They really are. Rob and Peter are stand up guys. Peter discussed every step of the process with me, to be sure I got exactly what I wanted. The mods are expensive; so he explained the pros and cons of each choice with me. Fixed vs drop out firing pin, CA vs oil finish, brass vs SS 510 connector, 'in stock' vs purchasing my own wood, etc. I understand Cory is a great guy too; but I've never dealt with him. I've never owned a CC mod.
This is the kind of customer service I will go back to, again and again. Some other guys get a little puffy and big for their britches; but that's ok too, as long as they do good work.

That being said, we just went on "morning shift" - no power tools (outside) after noon - to go with the ban on campfires, barbeques, and outdoor welding (hmmm... exhibitionist welding is a thing??!). By the end of the week, we're expected to be in full shutdown - no power tools (especially chainsaws around here), excavators, or construction. If we don't get rain at some point, the parks will be closed for hiking.
oh wow........we often have burn bans here in the summer, and they do controlled burns, but have never seen bans like that. But then we have paid and volunteer fire depts from several towns all in this area.

I have only caved to the cold once. Looked at the weather and it said the wind chill was -56 (actual temp -35). Bundled up and went to get to my car and head to the post office. Made it as far as stepping outside and closing the door behind me. Came right back inside. Screw that!
I lived in Ohio for a long time, and in 1978 we had temps like that. It was a huge blizzard that killed 15 people in dayton I believe. Temps actually got more than -35, wind chill was figured at -75 it was awful. School was closed a lot, but I do remember walking to school and having to breath through a knitted scarf because the cold air would hurt your lungs so bad to breath it in.

is he missing? Hope he can still do the woodvils with the new owners.

My REOs won't be sold, but I like having a cheap device when going to the beach.
I'm not concerned about dropping the REO, more for feeling at ease when going for a swim, and not have to worry about theft. Just got a $14 device that will work fine for the few hours I'm there.
Jup, that's the only reason I can see for something like a copper vape. But then, I don't get to go to the beach or much of any place other than dr appts. but when I was in florida, all I had was my reos, so they went everywhere with me, even parasailing. But it did stay on the boat. If I'd had something else, I'd have vaped while up in the air, but didn't wanna drop a Reo in the atlantic!

The tension and FOMO surrounding some of these, as trunker put it, soulless boxes just makes me shake my head. The REO, OTOH, makes me nod my head.
JUP!

Hiya!!! Great to see you. I was actually thinking about you last week and wondering how you were.
Loved the pics of the patches. My son has an apollo patch, but don't recall which one. He only has a few, so can't really call it a collection, but loves em.

@Debadoo I hate the VA in Temple. I know, completely random, but I was scheduled down there for one of my appointments last month and was my first time visiting the hospital. I messed up and took I-35 to get to Temple...damn freeway construction, missed my exit and had to travel 4 more miles before I could turn around. Went down some random road and got hung up by a train that I swear was 5 miles long ~15 minutes later I cross the tracks and it puts me back out on the frontage road I was just on...all the bridges are still under construction and closed. Finally got on highway 90 and eventually found the hospital. Then I drive in and can't find patience parking so I end up parking 2 miles away from where I needed to be. Long story short I eventually make it to my appointment with like 2 minutes to spare and everything turned out fine after that. Never again!! Will I travel on I-35 thru Temple, I swear they've been working on that freeway for over a decade it seems like, is it ever going to get finished?

yeah.......that's the joke here that they will never finish. If they ever do get anywhere near the finish line, it will have been so long that they'll have to start at the first part cuz it'll need work by that time. It's awful! But........I shouldn't even tell you this cuz you didn't tell me you were comin to Temple so we could meet for coffee or something...... but at the VA I always use the valet parking. I can barely walk enough to get to where I'm going once I'm in the hospital. Except the times I had to take my son to the ER, that's not too bad.
Glad you'll be poppin in more often! You've been missed!

The highway construction aggravation is prolly worldwide, and I was frustrated by it until a mate of mine explained it like this...

It used to take a longer-than-your-life time to build things - Notre Dame took 200 years to complete, for example. Several generations of craftsmen worked on just the one project and most of them never saw it finished. The thought of a father, son, and (gasp) grandson working on the same bridge/building/highway today is the punch line to a joke at best and enraging at worst. Maybe we should turn that frown upside down and appreciate that we're far better off and it doesn't take 200 years.

I've never spoken that guy again - he's clearly never sat in traffic for construction :sneaky:

Sloth's mind has changed again. For this year's vacation I think I'm going to head out to explore 3 states: Colorado, Utah and Arizona. I'll travel by car and mountain bike. Next year = western Canada. Given that vaca starts Oct 16, I think shredding some warmer trails and seeing the desert for the first time will be nifty.

Sloth can ironically pull off 15-19 hour days driving fairly easily so should make it to the Boulder area in 2 days.

I lived and worked in Colorado for about 6 months in the late '90s. Specifically, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Vail. Bear in mind, it can be snowy there by mid October, although it can still be pretty nice during daylight hours. Lots of great mountain biking to be had.

However, most roads are not built to the same standards as the pyramids or Notre Dame and life expectancy is a little better now. Furthermore, hydraulics and heavy equipment ought to make roads and bridges projects that take at most only months.

When the contractor is fined for late delivery or even gets a bonus for early completion, hazard a guess what happens.

I used to have to drive through Wilkes Barre/Scranton, Pa. occasionally. I-81 seemed like it was under construction for years. The common joke was that they ran the Interstate straight through both cities; and then came back and cut in all the interchanges.

Nothing's changed by the way. Still under construction (as of every time I've driven it over the past 6 years--several--including 2 months ago)

That's just sad. I haven't been through there in probably 15 years. Any time I go from Florida to Upstate NY nowadays, it's on one of those new fangled flying machines.

When I left Air Force basic training in 1999, and was bused up to Wichita Falls, Tx for my next phase of military training we drove through Temple on I-35, back then that same part of the freeway I'm referring to was under construction, mind you...the road construction currently is a lot more extensive, but it's been 17 years in the making. Give me a break, they start in a "zone" get 50% completed and move to another "zone" and break ground. This is a repeated cycle that seems like it's never gonna be finished. Every time I drive through I see a group of workers either standing around or one guy working and the rest watching, good way to spend tax paying dollars. They start a section, never finish it, move to something else and never finish it, and rinse and repeat. I've started taking a back road called 317, to avoid traffic on the interstate. Now they've started construction on 317 and are less than 50% complete and have already stopped working on it to move on to other projects. Maybe a lot or all of it has to do with funding, but that's a pretty sorry excuse as to why you can't finish a section before moving on to start something else.

A buddy of mine I work with lived in Temple and would take the interstate every morning to get to work, I guess because of where he lived - most who live in Temple take the 317 road I spoke of, cause it's quicker and has less traffic. Anyway, I don't know how many times he's called in late to work because of freeway congestion, wrecks, etc. He was almost fired because he couldn't seem to get to work on time. I guess for him his only solution was to move from Temple to another town outside of Mcgregor where SpaceX is at. He was telling me one time there was an accident so bad in the northbound lane, the 1st responders actually closed the freeway and were having people turn around and drive back the wrong direction in the northbound lanes until they could get back to the nearest exit and exit off on to the frontage road. He said traffic was backed up for miles and he showed up 3 hours late for work that day, craziness...I'd loose my mind. I hate traffic and stupid drivers, and get bad road rage.

Hey REOnauts, been a while since I posted in a REO thread, but today I just found out Rob has sold the company. I spend equal time vaping my REOs mods and various ProVari setups, I don't draw any lines as they both bring much to the table in terms of what works for me. So when did this happen, and how has anyone's experience been with the new owners? I wanted to get some more of the OG non adjustable rebuild kits and see that they are out of stock...does anyone know if the new 510 center pins can be retro fitted into the old style 510 threads? I've got a few older style 510 REOs and used up my last pin in resurrecting a mini that I recently acquired. She's firing like a champ but I am hoping to get some pins to keep my OG 510's going...any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I just saw the message on the Reo's mods website. I didn't know this happened either. That sucks, I'm wondering if they are still doing send in's.
