Hello, everyone! And welcome to class! Today, I am here to rid the common misconception of what a hipster actually is. To best demonstrate, I will be listing and going over real world examples so that YOU may discover the difference between a hipster and an average, every day person.
Exhibit A:
"BrandonR, there's a guy/girl over there with a flat bill cap. Thats totally a hipster."
Nope. Thats just a person who is an enthusiast of hats. A hipster wouldn't wear such a thing because flat bill hats are popular.
Exhibit B:
"Okay, BrandonR, but they have an iPhone. Thats total hipster territory, right?"
Thats true, but you'll need to ask the right question. Its not "Does the hipster have an iPhone?", its "How much did the hipster pay for the iPhone?" If it was a hipster, then the iPhone was purchased outside of a contract and for top dollar.... by their parents.
Exhibit C:
"Fair enough. But, look at those monstrous clouds they are blowing!"
Keep in mind that subohming is gaining popularity. A hipster wouldn't be caught dead doing what's popular. Keep a look out for what the hipster is vaping. There's a good chance that its something from 2008. also paying top dollar.
Exhibit D:
"You're making some strong points here, BrandonR. But, there's a guy/girl wearing thick rimmed glasses, a scarf, is on an iPhone, and is vaping something from 2008 right over there. That is, without question, a hipster."
That is not a hipster. Why, you may ask? Because there is no coffee or alcohol here. A hipster would be more likely to open their own shop and only sell to his/herself. That is what we call irony.
If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
