No it isnt.
Ask anyone who's tried to sell a Mustang how much it devalues when the components arent stock. Throw a Chevy or any other manufacturers engine in there and not only is it no longer considered a Mustang but you just hurt the resale value BIG time.
That being said, I still think this mod is kinda cool for the effort the must have gone into it.
Of course it's still considered a mustang. It's a mustang with a Chevy engine. I don't think anyone would describe it any other way. As far as resale value. Some people may value it more, some may value it as less. This guy isn't offering VW Provaries for sale. He's simply showing off his modded provari. The same as if someone would show off their modded mustang on a car message board. It is his property and he can do with it what he likes. If he were offering modded provaries for sale, we'd be in a different situation. Ford can't tell you to stop posting pictures of your modded mustang. It's none of their business.
The only factory approved internal upgrade for the Provari at this time is the Hemi.

Wow I can't believe people are trying to claim this isn't a provari. Folks what makes a provari a provari is the tube. If you took the provari board and put it in a box mod, it would not be a provari anymore. I can't believe people actually say with a straight face that a given car with a motor swap (of any type) is no longer that car ... that's just not reality.
Also it seems there's a ton of ignorance about exactly what the DNA20 provides, let's just say that it doesn't just make the Provari VW, it extends its capability envelope tremendously. This mod actually takes the Provari and makes it so you don't have to make any excuses for it, performancewise.

What makes a Provari a Provari is more than just the tube, its all of its components together. The stainless steel tube with the cerakote finish is just one of a dozen parts that act in concert to make a Provari one of the best pv's on the market. If ANY of those components were lacking it wouldnt have earned the reputation it has.
By your reasoning a zmax or a lavatube is the same as a Provari and thats been shown time and again to be untrue. By the same token a Mustang with a Chevrolet engine in it is no longer a Mustang. Its a hybrid thats looked down on by both Chevy and Ford fans.

it might be easier to think about mech mods ... take the electronics out of the picture entirely. what makes a given mod, that mod?
That's a ridiculous statement given that I just said the provari body tube is what makes a provari a provari.
No, it's a mustang. I can't believe anyone thinks otherwise. Seriously? It might help you to think about an engine other than the "rival" maker's engine. Say, an electric motor conversion. It's obviously still a mustang. The body is what makes the car a mustang. This is true even up through completely fabricated race cars.
There is no "judging" going on here. The body tube is an existing object and it is what it is.
It doesn't matter one bit what anyone thinks of it, THAT is a judgment. It's still a Lambo because the body of the car is a lambo. If someone claims otherwise they have zero knowledge of which they speak.
If it helps, note that the DNA 20d blows the provari board out of the water.

The provari is good mod, but the DNA20 isn't even comparable to all the other VW wannabes out there like the Zmax.
If you like the provari and don't want to change....great....but don't try to crap all over someone else because you disagree.
Watch the pbusardo opusD review (dna20) it should shed some better light on the DNA20....or not....and keep posting ignorant posts.
Agreed it is not a Provari; but it is awesome. He can call it whatever he likes. Why all the hate. The stock Provari is a great device but it does have its failures. Try pushing a genesis with a full sized wick and coil and you will soon see 13.5 watts just won't get it. I would love to have one once the bugs are worked out but it would have to be able to house an aw 18490 imr or the dna20 will have very short run times. Lose the charger and please no lipo cells.
I had thought of doing the same thing but I thought the provari was too narrow to fit the board. If you could do a retrofit witha supplied provari for $100 and still make a profit it think you could do well.
