I'm very fimilar with that shop. I've known the owner for quite some time.I have some nice seasoned Black Walnut and Cherry wood.
I think I will make a stab wood mod out of one or the other.
Someday...
some black walnut is darker and more even in color. Depends on the tree and where you get it from. Same with cherry wood.
Boden,
Have you checked out that recycled wood place at Midland and 3rd?
I also have access to some 100 yr old plus Chestnut.
Yes indeed that pic is pretty typical Black Walnut.
I would say it is a good chance that is Madagascar Ebony. Whatever it is, it is nice timber, hard on tools? Madagascar Ebony is abrasive.
Yes there can be a great deal of natural variation. The lighter part of Boden's walnut image is sapwood, the darker heartwood. Cherry sapwood is very blonde as well.
I may look for the 28/32. Got some SS316L I want to play with too!
Clapton wire is really easy to make. I'll make a how-to video if you like.
Will doThat would be cool. Please 'n' Thanks.I've seen a couple (having a swivel lure has been strongly recommended?) I'm a "touch" lazy sometimes. I go on binges where I have to build any and everything in sight. Then, there are days I just want to pop a blister pack
I've been "introduced" (and seduced) by the eGo ONE tanks (got one with my eVic Mini in one of the recent contests.) I have a pack of the CLR heads - I was hoping I could put a little Clapton in there, but I think I have to save Clapton for the bigger build decks. I'm SOOOOOOO amused with it in my Velocity.
There is a site that is selling a Clapton jig that looks pretty interesting:
Clapton Jig
They also have a couple vids showing it in action.
The point... It looks fancy.Hmmm... is the point of a Clapton coil to make a high-wattage mod vape like lower wattage with a single-wire coil? That's how it seems to me.

They don't work as well as a normal 28g - 32g build.
They start to get better when you compare them to thick wire (26g or lower) builds.
In other words, a person who is used to 24g builds will think they are great. A person who knows how to build with 30g will think they suck.
Actually it has nothing to do with "surface area". The grooves allow faster venting of the vapor from underneath thick wire. That is why claptons work well compared to a 24g build but not as well as a 30g build covering the same surface area.I think it has more to do with "surface area" of coil and wicking. It's going to be a thicker wire, but there are more "grooves" where the wick and juice can touch and vaporize. Bigger Klowdz - more flavor?
Dont know, I keep getting tired of the slow ramp up and toss them well before they need to be cleaned.Claptons harder to clean?
Always some crud left under the top wrap?
