Way back a zillion years ago, when I lived in Tucson, AZ, I used to see those things stalking me when wandering the dry washes out near High Chaparral Ranch (Old Tucson movie studios), so I practiced my quick draw and the Colt .45 left a hole in the sand where that nasty bee was.Seems to be missing @Atchafalaya's nemesis, the Flying @#*&@^%#@*&$#@$^@@&%%$

That's what she thinks she got stung by a couple weeks ago. If not the Tarantula Hawk, it was still most likely a spider wasp of some sort.Fuzzyyyyyyyyyyy good to see ya here! Didn't know if we'd see either of ya round these parts again!

Yep, spider wasps are large solitary wasps that use large spiders to lay eggs in. They have painful stings. Of the various spider wasps, the so called Tarantula Hawk (known for primarily using tarantulas as the egg host) has the most painful sting, and it is rated as the second most painful sting/bite in the insect world. It is only slightly behind the bullet ant.@Shawn Hoefer , safe trip to your mom's and hopes and prayers go out to you and her.
W T F IS THAT?
Tarantual Hawk? Spider wasp?? Fuzzy, I wouldn't even try it with a 45. If I miss I'm totally screwed. I want a 12G pump action, or if possible, one of those AA 12 automatic shotguns with a 32 shell drum. I would take zero chances on that thing. It makes the alien in Alien look kinda cute.

"Pepsis is a New World genus, with species occurring from Argentina northward to Logan, Utah. Over 250 species are found in South America. Fifteen occur in the United States, with at least nine occurring in the deserts. Tarantula hawks occur wherever tarantulas are found. P. thisbe is the most northern ranging of the genus."

You don't have crickets in the city? I distinctly remember a book when I was growing up about a Cricket in Times Square, are you telling me that was fiction?Cool. So I just never, ever travel anywhere tarantulas hang out. Or bullet ants. I'm so glad I live in the city. When I did my suburban thing about the only new critter I had to adjust to were crickets. Annoying with all the hopping, yes. Trying to kill you, no.
dang.......didn't know all that about emYep, spider wasps are large solitary wasps that use large spiders to lay eggs in. They have painful stings. Apparently they hang out at Atcha's........that's what stung her awhile back. We have mostly red wasps here and these don't seem to be all that aggressive like they usually are, which is good, cuz the back yard is full of em. They do hang out at the door a lot, once in awhile they get in, but not all that often. And where do you find these tarantula torturing creatures? I'm in NY and only have to worry about the occasional roach. I just want to be sure I never, ever travel somewhere where those things hang out.
Once upon a time, I used to be a damn good instinctive shot (sights not required) with a single action revolver. Quick Draw McGraw! Today, however, after two retinal surgeries and a cataract surgery on my right eye, it is no longer dominant and now I have to "aim" with the left eye (sometimes even hold the gun in the "off" hand). I am not as accurate as I once was, but I also now have a Taurus Judge, which fires not only Colt .45s, but .410 gauge magnum shot-shells. Great as a defensive handgun when using the 4 BBs instead of bird shot. If you used the bird shot, however, there is no doubt you could take out a big desert wasp.Fuzzy, I wouldn't even try it with a 45. If I miss I'm totally screwed.
Nah. The subway rats eat them whenever they run out of pizza. You don't have crickets in the city? I distinctly remember a book when I was growing up about a Cricket in Times Square, are you telling me that was fiction?
And having realized that we were getting a little off topic, if you were to try a pizza vape what "toppings" would it need to taste like? And is Chicago Style Pizza ejuice better than New York Style Pizza ejuice?Nah. The subway rats eat them whenever they run out of pizza.
