Exactly my goal
I know of at least two major camper/RV shops visible from I-87; Kingston and Albany.Since I've started every trip from Upstate I was stuck on I-90. My bad. Nothing to see Upstate. He might like Lake Placid. The thought of driving an RV through Keene doesn't sound fun.
Actually if he wanted to see Lake Placid my wife and I could drive him there before picking up his RV. We love Eastern NY (in the Summer).

We're not bothered too much Debs, just want to travel, meet people and bring ya'll to VegasJup, we need to look at landing in NYC, vs somewhere in Florida and which route is best to head to S Dakota and Vegas. I need to start paying attn to where everyone is. But I do need to know who could be available for a couple of weeks, that wants to go to the hitchin!
Rixy and Ems are there any cities/places that y'all particularly want to see?
I`ve been toying with the same idea. I plan to try winding a somewhat rounded triangular shape coil.
I have 2 triangle files that I was going to use but the smallest ID that I have would be around 6mm which wouldn't fit in anything I have. Maybe the Boreas?
I have some tiny triangular needle files, never measured them though.I have 2 triangle files that I was going to use but the smallest ID that I have would be around 6mm which wouldn't fit in anything I have. Maybe the Boreas?
A small aluminum rod would work well and be easy to shape.Yeah that is why I have not wound the coil yet, I need to make a mandrel first. I'll probably use maple.
oh kewl!! You were close, cabriolet. I love seeing the Lippizzaner stallions do that and every other thing they do! Never seen an Arabian do that.
Oh I know how it goesFor hitting the northern plains, I prefer to start on I-80 to Chicago and switch off I-90 there.
I have some tiny triangular needle files, never measured them though.
And seems like the rough surface of the file would make it difficult to remove the coil.

You are correct. I've always loved watching it too, but I remembered it wrong. (not surprising, duhhhhh lol)Capriole is the dressage move, so I did remember right. I never studied or rode dressage, but I loved watching it, so I picked up some of the terms.
This reminds me of an "aha" moment I had the other day. (Everyone please set your drinks down, because I will not be responsible for beverages on computer screens.) I was playing around, winding coils, and thinking how well I was doing until I made one that wasn't spaced evenly. I couldn't make it right, so I tossed it and started again. I mentioned to Rich that it would be easier to use a screw like I'd seen some people recommend, and I'd do that, EXCEPT, I didn't know how the heck to get it OFF the screw when I was done. I hadn't even finished that sentence before it hit me.Oy. All this time, I could have been making perfectly spaced coils, but I didn't know how to get it off the screw.
OK, that was your funny for the day.I gotta go find something to make for dinner.
That would be a Reuleaux.I`ve been toying with the same idea. I plan to try winding a somewhat rounded triangular shape coil.
He is a very different Arab and thinks of himself as a god, which is why I named him Horus.cabriolet. I love seeing the Lippizzaner stallions do that and every other thing they do! Never seen an Arabian do that.
We do indeed. And around NYC (assuming you land at JFK) you can get totally lost in a matter of minutes. We have an AMAZING hiway system here .
First, ask yourself what you want to see/do? If you just want to get across the USA ASAP, take an airplane. What? Oh, you want to stay on the ground but still hop state-to-state at warp speed? By all means, use the interstate highway system (AKA Freeways, and don't violate the speed limit in that huge motorhome - they become unstable and might blow over). BUT... do you want to truly see this country? Get off the dang freeways and take the original old two-lane highways that still criss-cross the country. That's where you will see the interesting small towns, get the best chicken-fried steaks, and see geography/geology that is just not at all visible from those freeways. I have been in every national park in the 11 western states and you know what? Not one of them touches a freeway. Freeways (interstates) were designed to get people places fast, not for them to see the country. Is there a freeway that takes you to Stonehenge? No? Well there isn't one that goes anywhere near Grand Canyon or Mt. Rushmore either. So, as I said above, you two decide first what you really really want to do with this trip. Then go rent the DVD of Cars and watch the "how we made this movie" stuff... you'll learn a lot about Route 66, one of the most awesome beautiful learning experiences for someone who wants to see America... (I've been there and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything). We're not bothered too much Debs, just want to travel, meet people and bring ya'll to Vegas
There's a perfect example of why you need planning... Yes, Love Acres is only about 40 miles north of I-90 "as the crow flies," but 75 miles if you are coming from the west or closer to 90 miles off I-90 if you approach from the east. Either way, there's a lot of two-lane driving to find us from the interstate. Or, you could drive all the way east-to-west across South Dakota on U.S. Highway 212, see bunches of lakes and rivers and stuff that the interstate doesn't let you stop to take a picture of, and you'd come right up to within feet of our mailbox.HEY! I-90 to Love Acres! We're about 40 miles north of I-90, but it's a bit longer than that by road.
you just gave me an ideaI have some tiny triangular needle files, never measured them though.
