I already told Rixy, but for everyone else's amusement, I labored over my coil jig until I produced the most beautiful pair of coils... came out to .45 ohms, just what I was aiming for. I wicked them, tucked the tapered tails neatly under so they're *just* touching each other under each coil, put a little juice in the tank (5 or 6 droppers full) from the BOTTOM, stuck the deck back in, screwed the base cap back on, and tried it out. Way too much air and not enough wattage. I turned the air down to only two holes open, tried that and it was better, but still needed more wattage, so I was changing the wattage up from 35 heading for 40, and it puked all over my hand and mod. Not just puked, PROJECTILE VOMITED!

So. I assume I did something wrong, but I'm not sure what it is. 4 of those 5 or 6 droppers of juice are all over ME now (well, I washed, but I still have some on my jeans, yes, it went far...). Any ideas what I might have done wrong?

Right now it's sitting on its drip tip, hopefully unable to puke further until I figure out where I went wrong. o_O

More Cotton!!! I stuff that baby with lots of cotton!!!

I *think* I have enough wick, but maybe not. And I don't know what difference it would make having the deck in there when I filled, or not, because it's still "open." But I dunno, this is a new tank for me, so I'm learning. ;) I'll try putting more juice in first and see if it's not just a vacuum issue (I hope not), and if that doesn't work, I'll rewick with more wick. I couldn't get any more wick in the coils, but I could maybe leave the tails untapered or something so there's more rayon in there.

I've never seen a STM, so I don't know about the top on the coil chamber, but "uh-oh!" LOL! On the Boreas, I believe all the parts were installed properly.

Here's another thought. I only disassembled it as far as taking the top off, and the bottom piece and the deck. The middle part was stuck together pretty good. Is it possible there's a wonky o-ring in there somewhere that's letting juice leak out where it shouldn't? That might be it right there. I don't have an exploded view for reference, but maybe I need to break this down into the smallest bits and reassemble it from scratch. I tried unscrewing the middle bits yesterday (you know, like if I was going to replace the glass) and it didn't unscrew for me, so I just left it, but now that makes me think there's a jammed o-ring somewhere. I'll go check that, too.

The four holes on the bottom deck need to be completely covered. Otherwise the juice will just flow freely. I really use a lot of cotton when I wick.

@Lannie, if the wicks were just touching then it's not enough wick.

I put more in. A lot more. And it still leaked. I had Rich come look at the amount of wick I had, so he can attest to the fact, I could not stuff any more in there.

I think I'm using the wrong deck. I used the one with the larger juice holes. I'm gonna put coils in the baby deck tomorrow and see if that works, but that still begs the question: How do people use the deck with the larger juice holes?

Is it that I'm using rayon instead of cotton? I do have a little bit of cotton (stuff that came with RTAs), so maybe I should try that instead? I have enough rayon to last the rest of my life, and I was hoping not to have to buy anymore wicking material ('cuz I really LIKE the rayon).

I have a 4-oz. bottle of that cake batter dip, and nothing to use it in, so this will be a good way to use it. :) I got it as a diketone-free option to the Cap's cake batter, but it's nothing the same, so I haven't been using it. This will put it to good use. :) (I'm just gonna ignore the fact that it has corn syrup in it, K? So does my yellow cake, and I haven't fallen over dead from vaping that yet. ;))

They were covered. I couldn't stuff another bit of wicking in there. It was so tight, I was afraid of getting a dry hit. HA! Never gonna happen!

I just tore my Boreas down and did a major on her.

New 26ga SS at .5. Wicked with rayon. LOTS of rayon.

The Boreas really is just the easiest building best performing tank. At home anyway.

Keep at it Lnnie.

I'm keepin' at it. Never fear. I WILL GET THIS. It wasn't today, and it might not be tomorrow, but I WILL GET IT.

@Lannie

One more thing make sure the juice flow/air flow is closed also then when you flip it upright you can open it a little at a time.

Did that. Still leaked.

So here's what I did: I took the insufficient wicks out, and stuffed major wicks in, leaving them very long. And fluffy. I put TWO DROPPERS full of yogurt juice on those wicks to get all the rayon wet. Then I used my pointy long tweezers to tuck and stuff the wick down in the juice well. Looking down on it, you couldn't see anything but wick, except right in the center where the raised insulator bit is (I don't know the right word for that, but you know what I mean). The rest of the deck was covered in a substantial amount of rayon. It was in the coils very tight, even, so much so that I thought there was going to be too MUCH wicking. But still it wasn't enough.

There was still maybe 10 or 20 drops (a "blob") of juice in the tank, so I didn't add any more in case it came out again, figuring what I'd slopped onto the wicks, plus that, would be enough for a few hits at least. (Was that a mistake?) I put it on my iStick 60 and set it to 45W and got a decent hit off it. Turned it up to 50W and got a better one, then another, and another, and I thought, "OK, I got the wicking right." But alas, it was not. I noticed the base was really hot (from the 50W I guess?) and put my fingers there to feel how hot, and realized there was juice coming out the holes again. I had it open to two half-holes or just a tad bit more than that, maybe, but not two whole-holes. I closed the AFC holes, and wiped off the excess juice, then I took the deck back out and there was still a LOT of rayon stuffed in there. Not that I think any of it would have disappeared :p but it hadn't SHIFTED around or anything, you know?

So I gave up for the day. I took it apart and cleaned it again, and took out the wicks (after I got Rich to see how much was in there, I swear there was at least half an inch of wick sticking out the end of each one). I got the middle tank section apart and checked for wonky or missing o-rings. Nothing amiss, all the o-rings were perfectly situated where they belonged, and I don't think any are missing. So it's sitting on a paper towel now, drying, and I'll futz around with it again tomorrow.

I just can't figure what I'm doing wrong, unless it's that I have no business trying to use the larger holed deck when I'm practically tootle-puffing at 45 to 50 watts on a .45 ohm coil. Or that it needs cotton instead of rayon, but Coolerat says he uses rayon and it works, so I'm missing something. I'm not about to give up on this, I'll keep trying stuff, but I just can't think what I'm doing wrong.

Right now I'm gonna go eat some dinner and try to unwind. Too much "stress" for me today! LOL! Maybe tomorrow, I'll see this with fresh eyes, and it will come to me. Also, tomorrow, I'm going to put a set of coils in the other deck and try that one. It could be just that.

ACK! Too many quotes, and me going too fast!

THANK YOU RIXY! I'm mixing up a bottle of this tomorrow! It'll have to be a small bottle, cuz I'm almost out of V1 custard until I get my flavors ordered, but I'll try to put it away for a while and "forget about it." Shouldn't be too hard for me right now...

I haven't used the larger deck. I've only used the smaller one and I've had no wicking problems or dry hits with either 50/50 or 80/20 vg/pg juices. Maybe the larger holes are too big. I've never had it leak but some juice does seep out of the air holes for me. Nothing major but I do need to wipe it every once in awhile. I haven't used rayon in it yet I've only been using cotton bacon in it.

It's possible the rayon is wicking too fast. You could put cotton on the deck and use rayon in the coils, laying the tails on the cotton.

Agree FW cake batter is lots better than CAP cake batter. I can just vape the FW Cake batter by itself at around 5-6%. Not all that great but a decent vape.

I do solemnly swear and affirm that she had more friggin' wick in there than I would ever have thought to use... nearly twice as much as I would have thought necessary... but remember, I don't do sub-Ohm and am perfectly content with the small coils and tiny wicks in my Protanks.

@Lannie Didn't know you were using the 2.5mm deck. That deck is for big Clapton builds with very high VG juice. Even my build, I don't think I need the bigger deck, I know for a fact if I wasn't pumping 85w through it, it would start to leak, add on the fact your using rayon and to me, big juice holes, too lower wattage, it can't vaporize it fast enough as your pulling it through the wicks, it's flooding.
This tank isn't like any other sub ohm tank, it's a different ball game and I've always said to people it needs big coils, big wicks, high VG and high wattage or it just isn't going to work well, I got a lot of angry people jump on me about that but I know this tank inside out and stand by it.

First thing to do is take out that bigger deck, you shouldn't be using that one with a 26g single kanthal build. Sounds like your wicks were right, I've never used rayon but I know it wicks fast.

It can be stressful too Lannie, I got so stressed with my moonshot leaking it put me in a bad mood for half the day lol

Oh and I don't mean to sound like a bossy ding bat, I'm just trying to help xx
