Lannie, how much cotton are you leaving hanging out when you wick it? Or do you cut it flush? And do you sorta stuff the cotton back in the holes after you juice it?
Ah, see, that's the thing. I don't use cotton at all, I use rayon, and maybe these things require cotton. The rayon wicks too good, maybe. I had been cutting the wicks flush, because that's how I do my stock ones when I rewick them, and I made 4mm coils instead of 3.5 for them, on someone else's advice (bigger coils, less open space in the top "corners"), and I've tried stuffing enough rayon in there to choke a horse. So all of mine have 4mm coils now, and SOME of them don't leak, but others do. All I can think is the ones that don't leak are the ones that have a pillow's worth of rayon crammed into them. When there's so much wick stuffed in there, you can't tuck anything inside the edges of the holes, there just isn't any room.
So my next thing that I'm going to try is half as much wick, cut longer, and the tails stuffed back in, evenly around the hole, with special attention to those top "corners." (That's the problem with these, it's the U-shaped wick holes.) If THAT doesn't work, then I'll do the same thing but with cotton instead of rayon. Maybe the fact that cotton swells when it's wet will seal off those corners. Anyway, I'm not done trying to make these work, because I LOVE these tanks and I don't want to have to quit using them when I can no longer get coils, but I need a non-busy day when I can sit and babysit my experiment, and I've been so busy lately, I haven't had the time.
Good to know. If the coils are rebuildable that's an option. I don't have the tank/RBA, but looking at the photo of it reminded my of the third party RBA for Nautilus stuff. I'm really bad at working with those tiny RBAs (as well as rebuilding those little coils) and just accept the fact my factory coil tanks are just that, and my RTAs with enough room that all I need are my reading glasses, instead of a magnifying glass to work on it.
No, these RBAs aren't bad. Like I said up there ^^^ I have 4mm coils in mine. It's a bit tricky getting the one leg in the "L" shaped slot, but once you do it a couple times, it's not that hard. And how often do you actually have to re-coil, anyway? I don't replace coils for months, I just dry burn and re-wick. Now if I could just get the wicking on these damblasted RBAs figured out. I know there's a way, I just haven't found it yet.
Congrats, two women now armed with frying pans, it's getting dangerous in here..
