OMG this makes me so mad! Just saw a report on AOL about how dangerous third hand vapor is. A "doctor" states that it leaves nicotine molecules on everything it touches causing cancer, asthma and COPD? If Im not mistaken nicotine doesn't cause any of these things. It was the tar and the thousands of other chemicals that did that....He recommended people just quit smoking instead of trying this alternative.

URGHHH!

Idiot. Nicotine does not cause any of those.

Long term effects of nicotine from smoking shows it can cause CAD (coronary artery disease) because of the vasoconstriction it causes on blood vessels. I imagine this is still a risk for those who smoke very high levels of nic in their e-cig. However, this would require a long term study to determine nicotine absorption and the affects on the vessels over time, so I could not say so for sure.

It is annoying, nicotine gets blamed for a lot of things, and often it turns out that it's innocent when research is carried out.

I was surprised when my periodontist suggested that I buy an e-cig; he was aware that I was trying cold-turkey, NRT, and bouncing around between the two of them, with the associated constant failure. I was worried about the effect of nicotine on my gums you see; I thought that it reduced the blood flow there and I should be off my NRT spray as fast as possible.

Then I read this:

The role of nicotine in bleeding - Registered Dental Hygienist

Perhaps this new information is why my periodontist was happy to recommend vaping.

I don't know if I'm more annoyed, and slightly angry, about this because it seems like the doctor is trying to get attention, or because there are people who aren't educated about electronic cigarettes, e-liquid, etc. who will hear about this and believe it without question. I think people need to stop taking everything they hear one time and accepting it as absolute fact with no evidence, but I don't see that happening anytime soon ("Well it was on TV/the internet/in a newspaper/magazine article, so it MUST be true!")

Man. I've seen lots of posts about second hand vapor. But now they are worried about what happens after it's been breathed and exhaled twice???? When will it end???
Third hand usually means stuff which has been deposited on the environment. So vaping is first hand, breathing vapor from someone else is second hand, coming in contact with a couch in a room where someone vaped previously is third hand.

I think the Dr was confusing vaping with smoking. This article was posted here back around Feb 4th: Study: Third-Hand Smoke Exposure As Deadly As Smoking « CBS Atlanta

Who knew cigarette smoke was like a zombie plague? Apparently anyone who comes in contact with it can apparently spread it to others, who in turn can spread it to others. After so many years of cigarettes being being smoked in the world it's a miracle that all of mankind is not a completely cancer ridden zombie like species. In other words 2nd and 3rd hand smoke is really Nth hand smoke.

6. Cauliflower, which is not part of the nightshade family, also contains nicotine. Research findings gave cauliflower a nicotine content of 16.8 ng/g.

These foods are loaded with vitamins and minerals, and contain other compounds that promote good health as well, even to the point of helping to prevent cancer and lowering cholesterol.

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!

Ban cauliflower NOW! Think of the childreeeeeen...!

If you cut a cauliflower for dinner, on top of your kitchen counter, nicotine poisoning will remain forever on the top of that counter...! ANYONE who comes in contact with it will soon die. Horrible, painful deaths from cancer, asthma, COPD, and a third arm with a clawed hand growing right in the middle of his chest, that will soon rip his throat to pieces...

Really... :glare:

When will those idiots start being challenged by every bit of stupidy or purposeful mis-information they spread...?
