I wanted to find out more about vaping after MY DOCTOR recommended I try it.

I'm somewhat overweight and also have severe anxiety and depression.
My doctor recommended I try vaping as years ago, I used to smoke and it used to help calm me down. And even today, I get highly stressed and anxious and my first thought is that I need a cigarette.... even though I cannot physically smoke anymore (the chemicals in cigarettes give me major migraines).

With my overweight issues, and the depression, I tend to sometimes binge eat, or when I'm depressed, I just eat and eat, and usually throw up.
The doctor recommended me using 0mg e-cigs, with flavours that I like, so when I'm stressed, I suck on the e-cig, get a flavour hit, so I'm not eating food and gaining weight.

He also recommended it for my anxiety, because my brain tells me it needs a cig, even though I quit 9 years ago, so it has the motion of sucking on a cig, but no harmful stuff in it.

On top of that, with my anxiety, when I'm really anxious, I tend to have to take something in my hands and "fiddle" with it. When I was in his office, my anxiety was thru the roof and I was picking up his pens and spinning them around and around in my hands. So he reckons I could play with the e-cig, lol.

I find it odd, a doctor recommending me to use one of these for depression/anxiety/weight issues, since nobody really knows if they're harmful.... but meh. I said I would look into it.....

Welcome to ECF :)

That is quite an interesting suggestion, but I can see why he did suggest it. There are so many flavors available its a bit mind boggling at first, but you can find pretty much anything you can imagine in e-cig liquid form.

The mouth inhale is definitely possible, and it does indeed provide a full sample of the flavor.

Since your looking for the feel of a cigarette in your hand, a 'cigalike' battery such as the Volt may be a good way to go. That and you can try out e-cigs to see if its something for you without going nuts on the wallet.

There are too many vendors to list here, but a few of the more popular are Heather's Heavenly Vapes & Alien Visions. Never have tried HHV but AVE I received today and it is some amazing stuff. Quickly shipped, well priced.

I've used ECBlend before and they've got quite a vast selection, quick shipping and cheap prices.

Hope this helps a bit

Welcome to ECF. This place is filled with such nice people! <3

I know three people who have started vaping 0 nic (they were all non smokers) for weight loss, depression and anxiety. They're no longer on their meds and are functioning fine. Would I recommend it? Probably not. But if a doctor is saying to try it, it may be what you need.

I am a fiddler too; I have to have something in my hands at all times when talking to people. At work, it's either tape folding or paper clip bending. At home, it's my vape. I did smoke though, and it got me off them and kept me totally away from them (over three months, yay!).

I'm in Australia too, so I can only seem to find e-cigs online...
The one a lot of vapers recommend me is the Joyetech 510 T.... I was at least hoping to find something though that came in pretty colours.

The range out there is really confusing me though, when it comes to the actual units.... How does a person know which is the best, or the easiest to use?

My biggest problem too, according to the doctor, is when I binge eat, I binge eat sugars and sweets and things like "sour straps", because I love the taste... I will try dieting, but then randomly crave the sugars and just eat and eat and eat sugars, and I've battled it for years.
So the doctor seemed to think an "oral inhalation" of the juice would work for me, as it gives me the flavours, and would "trick" my brain into thinking I've got what I've craved.

I'm looking for a unit that does NOT resemble a cigarette, as I don't want the hassle of people in my family having a go at me for "taking up smoking again when I know what it does to me".... as my dad said last time I caved and had a smoke (ended up with a pounding migraine and threw up)....

And while I know colour isn't an important factor, I am a colour ....., lol. Bright, stimulating colours tend to be something my brain somehow finds it easier to cope with, than sterile metals, or weird black or white things that look like the .... end of a pen (I've always been an absolute shocker for chewing on the ends of pens, I had to stop using the plain white and black cased ones, only can now use the see through ones to remind my brain that there is ink in there, otherwise I demolish them and end up exploded the ink cartridges..... Yep... I gots the mental issues... >_<)

I've looked into a lot of flavours, there are many I would love to try..... but I get the idea that if the thing is complicated to refill with flavour, I'll wind up with the poops and just not end up using it.

AND... I keep forgetting to ask... are there any units where you can change the cartridge that holds the juice to a bigger sized one, so it holds more and will run out less?
I don't care if it makes it look silly, but would work better for me if I could carry more around.

And what the heck is a ming?
One site I was recommended to look at, ............... are advertising some weird things called "mings" and I have no idea what they're supposed to be.

Looking at ingredients...food/candy flavors often are mixed with propylene glycol. Thin that out with more propylene glycol. Add a little vegetable glycerine to give the blend a 'mouth feel' when vaporized. That's what is in 0%-nic eliquids. 1 drop gives me 2-3 puffs. I can see where the doctor got the idea.

A lot of starting vapers choose an 'eGo' type device. About the size of a small flashlight/torch or a felt-tip marking pen. Some starter kits come with a small tank (not sure...maybe 1ml?) or a 'clearomizer', which is also a popular choice. They are available in white/black/pink/designs/etc. Might also suggest a metal 'tip' to discourage the biting tendency.

Also was gonna tell you about the Australia - New Zealand Forum forums, but I saw you already found them.

I'm not a doctor, but from everything I've read there aren't any big risks associated with vaping. As someone who has tons of stress, I consider myself a bit of an expert on anxiety. I've been smoking for 9 years and switched over to vaping. It's fun and there's lots to learn and explore. I just got the Ego-c Twist and I love the crap out of it. I really enjoy the sweet flavors because it's like I'm munching on deliciousness all day without any calories. I got mine from www.pinkspot.com and I know The Best eJuice - VapeDudes.com - Hand-Crafted Gourmet & Organic - 100% USA Ingredients has a ton of amazing flavors (of which I am awaiting shipment). If nothing else, it will give you something to focus on. You will feel more in control of yourself, which anxiety makes you feel completely out of control of. I recommend starting with something that is a little higher quality and has a better vape like the Ego-c twist because you get better truer flavor and you can adjust how "hot" it "cooks" your vape which will effect the overall experience. Try a bunch of tasty flavors and there are some tanks that pinkspot calls "game changers." They're great, I just switched up my tank today and the flavor is amazing. I'm vaping "perfect buns" which is their version of sticky buns. Yum.

Welcome to ECF! :)

I was a 32 year 2 pack a day smoker, and I just got through spending weeks researching the available choices to get my own initial setup. I started vaping a little over a month ago, so I'm pretty new to this myself, but I really love it. I've stopped smoking painlessly for the first time in 32 years, and I've actually lost 4 pounds. A lot of the e-liquids I have taste incredibly good and they stop me from craving sweets or snacking, so your doctor could be right about vaping helping you. I am truly stunned by how easy the transition from smoking to vaping was for me, and I think you will like it.

I would recommend you start out with an ego style battery and a 'stardust'/CE4 clearomizer. The tank on the stardust clearomizer holds about 1.6ml of e-liquid (which is enough for hours of vaping), and comes in several colors. You can get eGo style batteries in a wide variety of colors and sizes. I have a blue Joyetech eGo-C (1000mAH) and a cherry red (650mAh), but they even offer them in etched designs or paisley patterns...so I think the eGo style will meet your desire for more color. The eGo battery also couldn't be mistaken for a cigarette...it's much larger and looks more like a fancy pen.

myfreedomsmokes.com is one of my favorite suppliers in the USA (so far) and they have an inexpensive eGo 650mAH w/CE4 clearomizer kit for $14.95. The kit only comes with a white battery and clear clearomizer right now, but it would be a cheaper way to find out if you are even going to want to use an ecig. Since you will need extra stardust/CE4 clearomizers anyway you could always order a few of them in various colors. Myfreedomsmokes.com also has a wide variety of e-liquid flavors at reasonable prices.

I have no idea which vendors in Australia are good, but you might want to find one that's closer to home to avoid a long wait for shipping. If you don't mind spending a little more on your setup most suppliers offer a variety of e-cigarette starter kits, but I still recommend starting out with an eGo style battery because it is an industry standard so there are more options and accessories for it.

The sweetest and best tasting dessert type e-liquids I have tried so far are banana, cotton candy, and English toffee. Taste is subjective, but I have found that most of the caramel based flavors are heavy/strong and taste more like burned caramelized sugar than creamy caramel.

Most e-liquids are mixed in a blend of Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable glycerin (VG). The more PG there is in the mix the stronger the flavor and the throat hit (TH) will be, if there is more VG in the mix it creates more vapor and somewhat less flavor. Throat hit refers to that feeling you used to get in the back of your throat when you inhaled cigarette smoke. There is no need to inhale the vapor to get the flavor, but if you do inhale it is very different from smoking...you need to slowly suck the vapor into your mouth and then inhale it. (You would get a bit more of the flavor if you exhaled the vapor through your nose though.)

I hope I was able to help. Good luck, and have fun. :)

Thanks so much for that, I was just looking at some ego clearomizers and wondering what they did, as they had them in different colours, lol.

Is this the one you mean?
ego-650mah-w-ce4-clearomizer-blister-pack-starter-kit/

I'm trying to find the different coloured batteries on the same site, so I can get one in the same order. :)
And also looking to find the coloured stardusts.
And looking for a few flavours of vape to try....
Anything "sour apple" is good, as is coffee..... Lol

One website even had bacon, which amused me.

So if I want flavour, I want more PG than VG. :)

yes but thats really simplifying it. To my taste buds PG has a slight industrial taste to it. If you order VG with extra flavor things will even out and you won't get that taste. Take that as you will... I'm all about VG but everyones taste buds are different

Just for the fiddling, have you tried something like this?

Amazon.com: Tangle Creations Tangle Jr. Fuzzy: Toys & Games

There's a variety of items called fidget toys that can help with anxiety, but the tangle ones are my favorites. Might be worth looking into if you haven't already.

Good on your doc for recommending something like vaping to address your issues. That is foreward thinking and medicine needs a lot more like it.

This site will give you some truly mind boggling options in ego style e-cigs. The Vapor Girl: Electronic Cigarette Kits, E Cig Mods, E Cigarette Liquids & More

my take on vg and pg - pg is thinner and harsher in mouth / throat feel. But its also "cleaner" as it does not leave a coating. VG is sweeter and some feel that it leaves a coating on the mouth and throat.
My preference is for vg for the sweetness and mellow vapor. I dont feel like it leaves a coating behind. I usually order my vg juices thinned by 10% water as this makes it easier to wick n a clearo but does not mute the flavors.

There is a lot of potential in this idea. The best e liquid makers don't use additive. You might not want some of the additives so research on ecf about that kind of thing. And then flavor should be strong. I have found some eliquid is too mild and I've heard from others. I wish ai could recommend the best places for what I post but I haven't got as much experience with a LARGE variety of vendors. It's hard because flavor and all that is extremely subjective. It might discourage you if you get something yuck even though it sounded good so try the sample, packs at first. Good luck. Itll be fun really.

I have had fidgets before, but it's not just playing with things with my hands. I had issues with the tangle, it seemed to make me worse because I would be twisting it so quickly and so hard when anxious, that it would snag or wind up breaking.... I get more out of biting things than just playing with things. And I couldn't bite the tangle.
I used to chew on drinking straws a lot, playing with them in my mouth, folding them flat, then folding them on themselves with my tongue..l which was fine until the day I accidentally swallowed one.
