This may be an embarrassingly stupid question...

...but what happens if you drop your e-cig in the bath or hot tub?

I'm sure the battery is shot, but it would not "toaster" you, right? Do you think there might be a little electrical shock or something?

Seeking knowledge from those more science-minded than me. I can help you with your Shakespeare if you need it, but electrical knowledge is like a foreign language to me...

And, FWIW, in 20 years of smoking, I've *never* dropped one in the tub, so this is really just a hypothetical (hopefully...)

I'm not sure to be honest, if that would give a shock, or simply fry the battery. And of course that all depends on how fast you pluck it back out. If you're quick enough to avoid water getting in to the contacts you might be safe. Probably pretty unlikely though as water could easily get in around the button.

But it does give me a rather hilarious idea. What if you pulled a finger bandage protector (latex sleeve thingie) or even a long skinny balloon from the dollar store over the battery, being careful not to completely block air flow at base of the atomizer? Secured tightly with an elastic band (probably not even necessary in the case of the tighter fitting balloon) the button would still be easy to activate through the "weather-proofing"..... might not work at all, but it's a funny thought....

If you were to drop it in water, first thing and most important don't fire it, the connection have a better chance to survive if they don't have power through them.

Second I would put the thing in a bowl of rice to draw out any moisture that was able to creep in, this should take 24 - 48 hours for best results.

This has saved two cell phones for me.

I think everyone covered the battery life and possible rescue.

Now I could be wrong, but I think you're pretty safe. I believe the battery would short out before discharging a current, but even then you're only dealing with 3-5 volts. It would not "toaster" you and I'd guess you'd barely notice. Wall outlets are 120 volts and new bathroom outlets all have a separate breaker (red and black buttons usually), so water mishaps should switch that breaker before it becomes life threatening even at the much higher voltage.

Apologizes if any of this is incorrect.

*Do not try this at home. :p

I vape in the tub all the time. The only one I've dropped was an 808 back in the day, and it was fine (like, I used it 1/2 later fine). Carto tasted like damp canine, though. I also didn't die (obviously).

Unfortunately, unlike my eReader, I can't just stick an ego in a ziploc. However, smoking in the tub was one of my great joys before I attached myself to a nonsmoker, so for me it's worth the risk even if I get capped by an ego. :)

Ok so hear is the dealio, it isn't voltage that will get you, it's current.

I've been hit with 10,000 volts from a jacob's ladder when I reached out to push a child away from touching it, and I am here as crazy as ever ;)

It can take as little as 50mA to stop your heart, which is why bathrooms have those GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) or GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) which will trip the power out at 50mA's.

Current and electricity are often compared to water, as it "flows". It also takes the path of least resistance, it is lazy like me :) So if you were to touch one hand to some electricity and the other to a piece of metal, the path of least resistance would be from one hand to the other, which means it would flow right through your heart NOT COOL! I have known some crazy electricians that will use their finger and thumb to test if a circuit is live because the path would be from finger to thumb.. still an uncomfortable feeling but shouldn't be life threatening.

Depending on the water composition ( impurities/minerals ) it would have a varying degree of resistance, much as your body does, so the path of least resistance would be difficult to determine. Secondly, the tub itself is an insulator so you would have to be touching something metal such as the drain and then the battery.. then making sure you stuck some part of your body in the 510 connection, etc etc..

Most likely the battery would just short itself out as the current path would be inside of the battery... it would be the laziest ( path of least resistance )

I am not recommending testing this theory out but there is some information for you to soak on

First thing I would do is take it all apart and shake it like crazy, then stick it in a glass of rice.

Then it is up to you if you want to risk trying it , even in that size, these batteries pack a punch

yep my son jumped in a pool with his ego in his pocket...you wont get shocked... i did just like shade has said...took top off dried inside left in rice for like a week and used hairdryer to make sure it was dry..put back together worked great never shorted out.. lasted until battery wouldnt hold charge anymore..just dont fire it wet or it will short out

There is a video post somewhere that shows the abuse that a battery can take. I'll look for it. I would think that after drying it out Which shouldn't take much because the battery is sealed, i.e., e Go style battery. As for a mod like a Provari:

a) soak it in wood grain alcohol take it out and let it dry; or
b) place in bag of rice

As far as getting a shock zap away you shouldn't even feel it
