That is the dilemma. Folks starting out don't want to spend a lot of money on something that 'might not work', so they spend a little money on a tiny underpowered device.... that doesn't work very well.

I have to disagree to a certain extent. I did a lot of research and started with the eGo C kit and two Twists. I wanted a middle of the road device but not a cheap cig alike. I wanted to give this a fair chance to work. I saw it had possibilities after reading all the success stories here, but with all the failures I had, I wasn't willing to trust completely this would work. Well, my set up worked. The only thing I upgraded was to the Vivi Nova from the cartridges that came with my beginner set. Those cartridges should never be sold at all! After two months of no cigs, I am still using and satisfied with my Twists and Vivi Nova.

My first vape came from Volcano in the form of an Inferno. It was not the best but I kicked the habit. Next was a GLV2 and GLV mini for a stealth vape. Next up was my V1 Provari, and it made me wish I never bought any of the others :)

You are correct in the fact that most the time you get what you paid for. The Provari is about as solid as it comes. Military chipset and flawless construction.

As far as the bells and whistles goes, I honestly suggest a good tank to go with it. Bigdaddyvapor.com makes tanks that match the black and base color of the Provari perfectly, and they are just as indestructible. Another good tank I always suggest is a tank from phiniac.com I usually run 3.0 ohm cartos in my tank so that I can play with most of the voltage ranges. You could also pick up some low res carts to fill the other side of the voltage range.

I tend to stick with Boge carts, they have never truly failed me. ikenvape also makes one called an 808 fusion that does wonderful things, but an adapter is needed.

All in all I know you will very much enjoy your Provari, welcome to the club.

Yes I did. I spoke to someone at SmartVapes and they told me to get that ! Thanks.
But the mistake I did make was with my juice. I forgot from when I was browsing over there the other day, that the samples all come in like 12mg or less, nicotine. Darn ! I wanted to make sure I had some strong stuff, at least 1 24mg and 1 18mg.
So I sent them an email and hopefully when they get in tomorrow, they can either adjust or cancel my order.
If that's the biggest mistake I make, I'll be doing good right ? :)))

Nicotine level and throat hit go hand in hand. I guess vendors make all samples at a given nic level for convenience and that's understandable. Awesome Vapor samples are all 18mg, which is where I'm transitioning to at this point, so it's a fit.

Just throwing my :2c: in. For myself, I didn't know if vaping would work for me. Nothing else worked to get me off of cigs. I couldn't justify in any way spending that much money on something I wasn't sure would work. Now that I know that this method will keep me from smoking, I have no problem with spending money on the Provari. I have asked for one for Christmas. If I do get one, I will continue to use my Nova's until something that has even less fiddling comes out.

At least the OP knew vaping works before jumping into the Provari pool. Congrats on that!!! :). You will get tons of suggestions, as you can see. Just try a couple of options and go from there. After you find what works, stock up on backups. It all boils down to personal tastes.

We all need backup hardware, so there's nothing at all wrong with buying cheap the first time. An informed decision is always a better one, though. Too many people get caught in the prefilled carto market and pay way too much for their first vape. There are dozens of good $50 first ecigs on the market. Really, all you need are two high current 510 thread batteries, a charger, and a box of cartos to start. That's usually available in a starter kit.

Even though its popular the Vivi Nova is far from the best when it comes to a tank or atty system for the Provari. People use it because its convenient and easy to use but a pyrex tank with a carto, RBA's and dripping will all give you better flavor.

My recommendation for your first time? Get the Provari then go over to IBTanked and get a couple of pyrex tanks and then buy some pre-punched cartos. The difference in flavor between those and a standard Vivi Nova are like going from ultra lights to full flavors.
I agree 110% with what Zapped said above. I never got the hang of dripping. I went straight to cartotanks and never looked back. They continue to give me the best flavor out of all the other devices that I have tried. (I have not tried a RBA) For some flavors, the vivi nova tanks mute flavor compared to the same flavor in a carto tank.

The Pro-V Cartomator tank from Vaporfexion is a nice looking tank on a Provari. I have the XL version. I have to admit it is not one of my favorite tanks when all is said and done. My favorite tanks are now the IBTanked. The are cheap and high quality. I have 5 and ordered 2 more this weekend. With prices starting at less than $20 for a pyrex tank, they can't be beat. You can get 3 IBTanks for the price of a Pro-V Cartomator.

https://www.ibtanked.com/

The slimmer 19mm tank looks perfect on a Provari. The standard size tank uses a 35mm carto, the XL size tank uses a 45mm carto. The standard size 19mm holds 1.5ml of liquid, the XL size holds 2ml. Prepunched cartos and drip tips are available on the website.

I did a full review of these with user pics here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tank-reviews/349222-ibtanked-pyrex-glass-tanks.html

I have a list of online vendors that sell laser-drilled cartomizers for tanks on my blog entries under my avatar. I use and recommend Ikenvape Platinium Punched! 2.5 ohm or the Smoktek single coil at 3.0 ohm for a Provari.

Congrats on your order.People dont talk about it much here but for me at least the biggest thing a Provari has going for it is providing a consistent vaping experience everything else is just a bonus IMO. I used to love the hit from a fully charged 901 battery and now I get the every time with regulated voltage.

Thank you very much ! It's a pleasure to be here. Some super nice folks here and a s*!t ton of encouragement. :).
Thanks too for the info about your tank suggestions. I suspect highly that while I will start out dripping, at some point I'll wind up going to a tank or clearo just for the convenience of not having to drip all the time. And knowing me, I'll want the most indestructible, convenient, best vaping setup out there. :p gonna go check bigdaddyvapor now. :)

I am going to share my knowledge as I drip (Ikenvape), have used ViVi Nova's, Have a Steam Machine VST, Gini (Genesis), GUS Aiolos (Spheroid Copy) and I use Boge's LR/SR cartos. Dripping is great for at home use.. and you have to know when to top off. If you hit a Ikenvape dry you are screwed, but it performs great when you learn how to use it! Some of my favorite juices in a carto taste nasty in a rebuildable... some taste way better.. When I leave the house I resort to my tank and carto setup. ViVi's are ok and easy to fill and change the heads on them when they go bad. But I would rather use a carto. It is going to boil down to personal taste and preference. You are eventually going to want to try it all. For me I have a addictive personality (as I am in recovery) and I am always on the search for a bigger vape (more vapor) and more flavor. So I have tried mostly everything. But I still find myself resorting back to the carto and tank for most of my vaping needs. This is just my experience.

I read in another thread here that rebuildables don't work that well on Provaris. I'm a bit confused now. And I'm interested in rebuildables because I enjoy tinkering and well, the whole idea just seems interesting.

Ok @ voltage. Thanks for that tip. What's a good voltage / ohm combination? In one of the threads, the rule of thumb given was: add +2 to the ohms and you get the right voltage.

Best surefire way is to start with a low voltage (3.x volts) and work your way up. I typically raise the voltage on a fresh wick by 0.2 increments (3.0, 3.2, 3.4) until the flavor starts getting strong. Once I get a hint of the wick starting to singe I reduce the voltage by .4 and then adjust. the "sweet spot" is usually right around that voltage for me. As for the resistance: low resistance typically produces a hotter, fuller vape, stronger throat hit but weaker flavor. Also you can fry a cotton wick pretty fast beyond 4 volts in my experience. When I want a warmer vape (on the provari) I typically go for 2.4-2.6 ohms. Higher resistance above 3 ohms typically has less vapor, less heat, less thoat hit, but the flavors comes through more. I usually find my "sweet spot" around 5.3-5.8 volts. But since every coil I make is original, this varies. Also sweet juices tend to burn easily. Lots of variables; hope this helps.

Keep in mind, your taste/prefs may be different than mine, and perhaps some of the more seasoned veterans here on ECF can help you with the equation that you mentioned. I let my tongue tell me whats what :)

Lots of great suggestions here from everyone :) I'll probably eventually try everything haha like xplumberx above but in the meantime, I'll start with the Vivi and see how that goes. For one thing, the different options all seem pretty interesting. But the cost piles up pretty quickly so I have to watch myself. Right before I bought the Provari, I put a load of other things in my shopping cart and removed most of them right before hitting the checkout button.

I was more talking about the little cig sized devices that many people, myself included waste a lot of money on in the beginning. I hear a lot of good things about the ego twist, and very few bad. Well, the battery anyway. I hear a lot of problems from the eGo tank/atty system.

I could not agree more with the OP line of thinking, and if I were as "wise", I'd have 2 provari for backup, but at least I do have subpar devices to use on the rare event provari needs maintenance.

As for what to use on it...I prefer dripping 100% of the time. But the closest to this, as has been repeated, are boge tanks. I've read so much about Vivi's and for the life of me I can't get mine to perform half as well as others as described, and believe me I've tried everything short of NR wire. The rubber just burns, everytime.

This just my opinion, please feel free to disagree...but general consensus, provari is amazing APV, why not put the best an equally amazing item to vaporize AND taste the complexity of your e liquids...the HH357 atty is the best thing to happen to vaping in the past year. It claims to be an "advanced user device", and it was the first 510 atty I used to try dripping(used 306, but haven't since). While I admit it can be "finicky", if u can successfully drip and care for this atty it will reward you with best vapor, flavor, and consistency, not to mention great life span. Hanna, hand makes them, is one of nicest vendors I've dealt with(by email)

Geez...don't feel guilty! Wish I had done this instead of baby-steps and I could of saved myself a bunch of $$! I finally got a Provari and love it. If you are thinking of getting something like a Gen...consider a JonBoyLava Gen...they have a section here on the forum for ordering from him...he isn't on a website EXCEPT he has given a dealer the insides of his Gen to put in a reactor over at The Reactor Tank or you can go on Facebook for the Jonboylavatank group. You can find out when he has a run of these for sale.
