Having a good long lasting battery and full tank of fluid is just like a smoker who goes out for the day with 7 cigs left in his pack... you might not smoke all 7 but then again you might. I know I always carried a full extra pack on me... smoking paranoia :) You don't want your APV to go dead while you're out and about and can't do anything about it. Since I started using 18650 batteries i've been able to go all day, every day without ever running out of power. When I first saw provari sized mods I thought they would be cumbersome. They are not and I got used to them in no time at all and prefer them now. As for tanks I purchased the DCT tank from Provape and it's fine, works the same as the tube tank from Volcano that I had on my lavatube, but I find the tubetank easier to refill and it holds together better and is more sturdy than the dct. I just ordered a pyrex tank from Ibtanked on Black Friday. I'll post on that one once I get it and try it out.

I can't say enough about the Provari. I currently have five of them. Two Minis and three Standards, with batteries ranging from 2000mAh 18650s to 700mAh 18350s. After buying my first one, I saw no reason for anything else. I currently use only Genesis type rebuildables. But prior to, I've used polyfil cartos, CE2s, CE3s, Vivi Novas, dripping attys, etc. They all work, because the variable voltage, regulated voltage, Provari is so versatile.

I've been vaping for aobut 3 months now. I was fortunate that many of my family members have been vaping; one of them for over 2 years. On his recommendation, I bought a smaller pen style 510/eGo 900 mah passthrough and a vivi nova mini. After trying out various cartos and tanks I found myself always returning to the vivi novas. Ease of use and the fact that they can be rebuilt (I now no longer vape on silica but cotton wicks) made my vape habit extremely cheap. I got good at wrapping my coils and getting the sweet spot for my 510/eGo.

Like you, I didn't want to waste a lot of money and finally bought a provari. The first thing I did was put my trusty vivi tank. It tasted okay, nothing much different that before.. But once I started adjusting the voltage I realized the taste was getting better and better. When I had finished I was nothing short of amazed at the amount of vapor and the taste. That was about 3 days ago. Since then I've purchased 3 RBAs (rebuildable atomizers) and even though they vape great, I STILL use my vivi novas when I'm on the move. They seal better than most other types of cartos and tanks and just work. The quality of taste and vapor is about 85 percent the quality of my RBAs.

Getting the Provari with zero knowledge is not a mistake. Just make sure you know how to operate it and can dial in 3.7 volts (which is what most eGo style e-cigs produce) and you'll be good. As you learn you can tinker with lower/higher voltages. That's my :2c:

Now don't get me wrong, I drip at least 90% of the time, but learning to drip can be a little frustrating until you get it all figured out. For that reason I would suggest that you get your feet wet first, and then try your hand at dripping.

This is the carto that I use.
ElectronicStix.Com · Boge 510 Blank Cartomizer Standard Resistance 3.0 oHM 5 Pack

And this is the new kid on the block should you want to invest in a carto tank.
ElectronicStix.Com · Single Boge 510 Blank Laser Punched Cartomizer For Tank Systems

And these are the tanks that I use.
ElectronicStix.Com · Standard J-Tank (3.3ml)

Thanks or the links TJ. Appreciate that. I've been seeing a lot of posts about those J-tanks :)
Yea, either a cartomizer or Atty (or both ) to start for me. I'm looking at the Ikevapes 306 next.

This is where I am too. I started vaping less than two weeks ago on an Ego 650 mah battery and I decided to invest in a Provari. The Ego works for me but I want something that'll last and that'll provide a high quality vaping experience. The Ego has helped me cut my smoking down from 1-2 packs a day to 5 sticks a day, so I figure, the Provari investment will "force" me to get rid of those last 5 sticks. haha. I placed an order for the Provari and it'll probably arrive on Monday or Tuesday. :D So excited now. And I got a mini Vivi Nova to try out with my Provari.

From all the Visions, the mini seems to be the most rugged. It's a bit on the small side (after using the 4ml tanks) but it can't be beat for price and size imo.:2cool:

Oh, and whatever you do, don't over volt your mini with your provari! too high a voltage will burn out the coil/silica pretty fast... If you rebuild them yourself then nevermind :)

I read in another thread here that rebuildables don't work that well on Provaris. I'm a bit confused now. And I'm interested in rebuildables because I enjoy tinkering and well, the whole idea just seems interesting.

Ok @ voltage. Thanks for that tip. What's a good voltage / ohm combination? In one of the threads, the rule of thumb given was: add +2 to the ohms and you get the right voltage.

Here is a link to the owners manual.

I agree with a previous post I bought a mini which is great but I should have bought a full size with the 18650 battery option.
My 18500's last all day usually but the weight and size with the extender cap is close to the full size lol I never use the small battery it came with.

This pic will give you a fair idea of the size with an extension.

At least on my laptop, that pic is actual size.

I went through a couple of eGos and a Riva, a box mod, and a 510 before buying a Provari. Add those up and they equal a Provari. I have backups just in case as a result of my experimentation, but after vaping a Provari for half a year, I'm convinced that I should have just bought it at first.

They just work and work and work ... very well, in fact. They are tough, durable, and the electronics are repeatable. You set it and forget it unless you decide to change resistance on a carto. Then, it only takes a few seconds to change the voltage. The menu system is a snap after the first day. I can do it at a stop light with no problem. What's that ... 20 seconds?

Personally I would go for the tried and tested setup of the ProVari and Vivi Nova. I have almost every type of cart in my stash and walk around 95% of the time with a Vivi. They just work it's that simple. Your philosophy is sound jumping into the best first and you won't be disappointed.

Even though its popular the Vivi Nova is far from the best when it comes to a tank or atty system for the Provari. People use it because its convenient and easy to use but a pyrex tank with a carto, RBA's and dripping will all give you better flavor.

My recommendation for your first time? Get the Provari then go over to IBTanked and get a couple of pyrex tanks and then buy some pre-punched cartos. The difference in flavor between those and a standard Vivi Nova are like going from ultra lights to full flavors.

You probably don't get many provari questions in the newbie forum. Figure by the time someone gets around to one of those mods, they have enough posts to open a thread in the correct subforum.
    Well not me.
Last week I was all about the ego-twist, having only smoked autos before.
But after reading and reading and reading, and some soul searching, I began to realize what you learn when buying tripods for your photography needs. This is, that you spend more $$ buying the lesser equipment, and eventually wind up with the full featured tripod, so why not save steps and money and go right for what you want.

Well that might not be for everyone, but that is where my head is now. I am seriously considering buying the provari mini as my first real e-cig.
And I have questions. I feel guilty as hell buying such a "grail" while my knowledge of e-cigs would indicate I should be climbing the ladder more slowly. But I realize I am who I am and I think I can deal with it.

I have been having the hardest time trying to figure out what to use with the mini. I've been thinking about the different tanks and clearos. but am wondering now, about first trying the cartos that are sold on provapes own sight.
I wonder if anybody has bothered to try those with their provari and if so can you tell your experience with them ?

    Much obliged.

    Floyd.

I've been vaping for about 6 monthes now and I went from a cig-look-alike to a Provari and Phiniac tank.

Just throwing my :2c: in. For myself, I didn't know if vaping would work for me. Nothing else worked to get me off of cigs. I couldn't justify in any way spending that much money on something I wasn't sure would work. Now that I know that this method will keep me from smoking, I have no problem with spending money on the Provari. I have asked for one for Christmas. If I do get one, I will continue to use my Nova's until something that has even less fiddling comes out.

At least the OP knew vaping works before jumping into the Provari pool. Congrats on that!!! :). You will get tons of suggestions, as you can see. Just try a couple of options and go from there. After you find what works, stock up on backups. It all boils down to personal tastes.

Well thank you all for your help. it's finally a done deal.
I wound up going with the Provari ( non-mini ) with the 18490 batteries.
I got a dripping 510 stainless 3 ohm atomizer , helix drip shield and a drip tip from Smart vapes
I got another drip tip from Provape and of course the battery charger.
I got a sample pack from Heather's Heavenly Vapes.

Looks like next week sometime I should have my first taste of some real vaping. Very excited !!

    Thank you,
    Floyd

Hope you also got a shorty extension to put under that atomizer so that the drip shield will fit.

Those shields are actually designed for 901 atomizers. (they just happen to work well on 510's)

Most any 3.7v device and a LR coil atomizer or cartomizer will produce results that satisfy the smoking urge. I do find that 4.0v to 4.2v on a 3 ohm atty is better than 3.4v on a 2 ohm atty, though. I still have some 2 ohm atties left and tend to vape those once in a while when I'm waiting on 3 ohm atties to be delivered.

It's the battery life and flexibility on variable voltage that makes my Provari king. That, and the fact that I can get my Provari repaired for a reasonable price if it breaks. A Chinese model that breaks generally means a new purchase at $50 to $80.

Yes I did. I spoke to someone at SmartVapes and they told me to get that ! Thanks.
But the mistake I did make was with my juice. I forgot from when I was browsing over there the other day, that the samples all come in like 12mg or less, nicotine. Darn ! I wanted to make sure I had some strong stuff, at least 1 24mg and 1 18mg.
So I sent them an email and hopefully when they get in tomorrow, they can either adjust or cancel my order.
If that's the biggest mistake I make, I'll be doing good right ? :)))
