Like others, I am commited to do whatever I have to in order to never go back to the nasty cigs. I have backup PV's for my backup PV's, at least a 3 month supply of cartos and juice. Lots of extra batteries. I was feeling pretty secure about my vaping supplies until today....I have been reading about the fears relating to the 2012-end of the world as we know it info. In particular the possibility of an EMP attack. Apparantly this is a realistic concern of alot of people. From my understanding we would lose the use of anything that runs via an electric current-our vehicles wont start, no electricity in our homes, no way to heat or cool our homes or food, no communication and so on. Being forced off the electric grid is really sacary to me, especially when I got to thinking about how it would impact us as vaporers.

We have juice, cartos, attys but all our PVs run on batteries-which have to rely on electricity to be charged.
I know I worry too much but seriously, what would you do if one day you wake up and realize that you have been cut off the grid?
It would be great if someone could design a way to charge our PV's via solar or wind.
Does anyone else worry about 2012 and the continuation of vaping?

Oh lawdy, I've never believed any of those end of the world esque theories. However, you could vape without electricity if you really wanted to.

Solar power options already exist, I believe duracel makes one, among tons of other ones. Get a good one if you're actually serious.

All you actually need to vape e-liquid is a source of heat (fire) and some material to hold the e-liquid as it is heated (aluminum, glass, etc). Yeah, very shady but it's possible (I've done it) just don't get caught in the act or people will think you're doing something a whole lot worse...

I guess I'd have to go back to analogs........... Luckily I don't believe in the "end of world" stuff, so i'm not worried. :) I'm more concerned about a few days of power outage during a hurricane (possible along the TX Gulf Coast) but even then, I'd plug into my hubby's generator.

Just take a hand full of eGo batts, a charger and an adequate solar panel, place 'em in a metallic screen 'cage'/box (look up Faraday cage).

Tons of solar options these days, and plenty of mods that don't use anything that would fry in an EMP. I built a puck that is nothing but a switch, wires and a carto / atty connector. Nothing to fail. Just build up a supply of cartos or attys. Personally I would gather materials so you could make your own attys if you are setiously concerned about it... cheap to do and can make hundreds of attys for cheap in the end.

No matter what you do - if a huge EMP like a Sun Spot smacks the Earth and the world goes down for a while, then you're not getting supplies for a long time. E-cigs and supplies will be the last thing on the list of things to do getting the grid and the world works back up and going :)

So stock up big time, get plenty of batteries and chargers, a couple of good solar 'generator' type items, and grab your ankles! WOO HOO! lol

Take care,
- Hap

Every PV or battery has a small circuit board in it. EMP would fry it, so don't worry about charging it. It won't happen. If we experience an EMP, there will be a lot of other things besides vaping to worry about. I'll be busy protecting my family and friends.

IDK. My box mod would probably be toast. Some standard e-cigs are inside a metal tube (hollow conductor rule???). Also, if my generator is switched off, no circuit, so will it still work? Don't the survivalists wrap stuff in aluminum foil and/or use a metal box? Maybe a cheap solution for those that are worried about it. Peace of mind is priceless.

i made another post about how my lifestyle is pretty dependent on a solid power source, and it still horrifies me. tears would definitely be my first reaction.
i would be cut off from my music library, my movie/anime library (shut up i'm a nerd), my book library, and my e-reader.
tears would definitely be a first, second, and third reaction. luckily i live by a river valley? so then maybe my fourth reaction would be to go outside more often.

Actually the IMRs don't. They are safe chemistry instead. I have serveral sets of them.

Also not trying to sound too picky but there would be no practical way to charge a battery. Believe me, I've researched this.

Not to be derogatory , but apparently not enough!

Also, if my generator is switched off, no circuit, so will it still work?

Not if ya don't have it 'protected'.

"end of the world in 2012" is not a realistic concern for people, it's an irrational fear for some. When we had a blackout for a couple days, I had no worries for my nicotine delivery system. I used a five hundred year old system... my hookahs (a Hindi word for water pipe or Nargile/Arghie in the middle east. Also called Shisha, but shisha is commonly refers to the tobacco in america). Basically a hookah uses tobacco as a substrate for VG and favoring while adding a natural tobacco to the flavor profile. So you are essentally vaping VG. Contrary to popular belief, a hookah does not burn the tobacco like like a pipe or cig, but rather bakes the tobacco and vaporizes the VG and flavorings by the use of hot coal *. The variety of flavors of "shisha", "Mu‘assel" or hookah tobacco is as varied as our vape juice. Though no where as portable as a provari, it's just as enjoyable, and electricity free.

* in modern hookah smoking, if the tobacco is burned, you are doing it wrong. In some countries, a metal screen isn't used to protect the tobacco but rather the coals placed directly on the mu‘assel, and some tobacco is burned.

I guess we post different types of pics. ;) Cute no-information-go-look-it-up-yourself-smiley. jk... I read your earlier Faraday-cage post.

OK, so I googled it. Looks like if it was a planned attack, the entire area of the USA is probably toast...

Protection:
Insulate the device, and put it in a Faraday-cage (the hollow conductor approach I mentioned earlier). Can be as easy as wrapping an e-cig and charger in wax-paper and then in aluminum foil. Maybe twice.

PITA. Guess I'll have to use lozenges or something for my nic ;) Gonna have to build that steam-punk e-cig after all.....s-cig?

P.S. Nice green ostrich. ;) :D
