Well it's refreshing to chat with folks who aren't into overspending! I saw a thread a few days ago where a guy asked "How do I save up to buy a....?". Got a bunch of answers but not one said "Spend less than you make"! I guess I'm a little old fashioned but when I want a big ticket item, I pinch my pennies, work more, whatever it takes to get me to my goal.

The hobby for some seems to be more about collecting. If that makes vaping enjoyable, fine. Doesn't work for me. My new shiny stuff will come from Dewalt and Ford!

I admit I "overspent" (for me) during my first 2 months of vaping (uh, that's NOW, lol) but I laboriously kept track (having seen people mention about "break even points" (spending only as much or hopefully less than you did on cigs). Also I was...uh, unsatisfied...with some tanks, my PVs, the right juice to make it super enjoyable. But once I got a grip on that I added all my purchases up, and am looking at a break even day of like Jan 11.

I do consider it a hobby, perhaps like "collecting wines" or something but more equipment. LOL But wines and liquids/PVs/tanks etc are meant to be used, not admired (my own opinion). So enjoy the look and feel of my 4 PVs (2 "emergency ones" are my first purchases, still good to go), and backups for my chargers and backups for tanks (all in use, rotating).

I totally agree with you guys that it's just better to be thrifty, who wants to be a vaper with lots of "cool stuff" but a big itch in the back of your head for "how will i pay for all this?"???

I also agree that being "cheap" and getting "cheap crap" isn't thrifty at all in many cases :(

I'm learning to change out wicks and coils --face it, I am now an "old lady" with bad vision and slower thinking, I don't think I'll be wrapping coils anytime soon but at least changing my own is satisfying. I plan begin some "mini DIY" soon -- mixing some of the samples I didn't like (but weren't nasty) together or addiing a sweetener etc. Eventually maybe you will see me in a lab coat surrounded by beakers, lol.

OP: I am excited you started this thread and hope people keep it going.

Everyone I've heard of that vapes unflavored says it's the closest thing to a real cigarette. Like a marb light. I'm tempted to try it myself if I like it it'll be waaay cheaper

I vape it when my flavors don;t do anything for. It is just kinda there. Basically I vape for the nic fix. Unflavored/flavored.. doesn't matter.

For some hard numbers. I have been logging my purchases and seeing if i really do save money. 17 months vaping. I was a 4-5 pack a week smoker. I do not know what pack sells for now, but I purchased at 6.5 a pack when I switched. If my math is right i have spent around 1,100 in 17 months averaging 65 per month (attributed to the first few months and losta liquid purchases). I would have spent around 2,150 in smokes. If any do the math and I am wrong please let me know.

I actually give my wife a spreadsheet each month. She rolls her eyes at me. 1,000 bucks savings isn't too shabby.

hey! this thread is right up my alley. =)

i just hate spending money. i dont have a lot to go around, so i cant be frivolous. gotta make it count.

i havent logged in for a while, so i dont know what my banner says at the moment, but im at around 6 months in... still using ego twists and evods. learned to rebuild coils, so my coils cost 9c instead of $2. started DIYing, so my juice costs about $1 for 15ml. i think vaping costs me about 30c a day.

i keep track of what i spend, every nickel gets added to my sig. my saved/spent ratio is getting pretty good! i havent spent a single dime in the last 2 months, i can probably make it another 2 weeks or a month now but im about out of VG. im gonna spend another $25 soon and that should keep me going another 3-4 months i guess.

how do you join the budget mods group?

Click on the group, then under "Group Tools" (upper right) there's something like "join"?

Not much is happening there, but there are some past conversations and a number of members. :)

Yeah, I joined that one a week or so ago. A little disappointed that there's not much going on, but who knows what the future holds?

I'm hoping it keeps rolling along too! So far so good. Not a lot of threads get this much activity in their first few days of life.

That's awesome. Seriously. It's so amazing to me that we've got options now that are both cheap and satisfying. Back when I started vaping three years ago the people that could pop for the really expensive equipment really were getting a MUCH better vape than those of us using Chinese batteries. Because of this I went to the dark side for a while... Multiple GGs, Provaris, etc, etc... It got bad. Nowadays you can have some Twist batteries and eVods and really be getting just as good a vape as the guys with a $500 mod/tank setup. Hell, my MVP 2.0 is the best PV I've ever owned and it only cost $60! It's a good time to be a Thrift Vaper.

I think probably my biggest savings have come from diy eliquids and being able to order from FT. I set my budget at 1/2 what I used to spend on cigs so I've always saved 50% since the beginning. Spent most of my time perfecting an adv vape through testing 1 drop at a time. Once that's done you can set back and buy a mod/topper each month. Building your own coils is another saver, get a great hands free magnifier from Hobby Lobby and start watching videos. I'm at the point now that I can try something new very easily with less than half my old budget, but I've been at this for awhile now and am fully stocked..

i have 2 Itaste VV/VW batts and a couple pro tanks. That has been my set up for a long time now, 3-4 months. I bought some new coils the other day, 5.50 + a bottle of juice, 13.00. That will be it for a couple weeks... I am not cheap, just found MY sweet spot.

Thrifty doesn't necessarily mean cheap to me. Like what was said above about the Reo Grand, sometimes a substantial layout equals big savings down the road. Finding your sweet spot and sticking with it is another excellent way to keep costs down. Just plug your ears and go "NANANANANANA" whenever you hear anyone mention the MVP! LoL.

I just got my nemesis clone and got a clone did with clear tank and it vapes great the only thing I can say about the clone nemesis is it button is a bit sticky but a I spent about 20 mins with some fine sand paper and the used some silicone grease and it works sweet now the build quality is very nice threads are very clean I got a rocket on the way and kayfun 3.1 ill let you know what they are like when they get here I would like to buy some of the top mods but when your vaping on a budget its not always possible so that's why I use clones and not just that but what price can you put on a tube with battery in it I also run a few other clones and to be honest I would say they run as well as any top priced mod and im happy I just orded the itaste vtr from ft £47

I started with 1/3 of my smoking budget and diy liquids. Don't even spend that now. Just made a couple of big orders and should be set for about a year and a half on liquids and however long an SVD lasts me. I've heard they're pretty durable. The only things I should really need are replacement batteries and PG. Have been thinking about a mech and RBA in the future (to save money of course):D

Going 5 months on mine. Dropped onto my brick porch once. Chipped my brick. Don't ask how much it was going to cost to fix it.
