Still new to vaping and my first fluids are 100 PG based on what i looked up. I noticed after a night of use i had a "smoker's cough" and a bit of chest tightness the next day.

Now at my previous level of smoking analogs, i NEVER had cough or tightness (2-5 smokes a day, winston lights)

So i'm wondering if this is strictly that the ratio is not agreeing with me, or is there something else at play here?

I am using a volt 78mm device with no modifications and as of now volt branded prefilled carts (100 pg based on what i looked up, kanger carts)

They are LIGHT nic (.12) so i did not expect it to feel so harsh. I never liked throat scratchy-ness or harshness in my smokes, more the mouth feel and flavor. What can i do to get this experience a bit more like i would prefer?

( i don't want to find myself going back to analogs!)

There is a possibility that you are sensitive to PG in the liquids. As Flyer mentioned, try stepping back the PG considerably. Once you find what ratio isn't giving you anymore problems, you can step up the PG little at a time if you decide to, until you get to your threshold. Also, how long have you been vaping exclusively for? It could just be your lungs waking up and going through a cleaning process.

I have a bit of a hard time with 100% PG. It's far too harsh for my tastes. The coughing may be caused by quitting cigarettes, though. I had a lot of coughing fits when I switched, and have heard that's it's because your respiratory system is beginning to repair itself. Cilia are growing back allowing your lungs to clear out the crap that's been sitting in them from smoking.

From some random health website:

Respiratory cilia. The bronchus in the lungs are lined with hair-like projections called cilia that move microbes and debris up and out of the airways.

I'd recommend getting some juices with higher VG ratios for a smoother vaping experience. Buy blank cartos from Smokeless Image (or any other blank 808s) and buy juices from other vendors.

*Edit to Add*

You'll get a wide variety of recommendations for juices. My personal favorite is Vapedudes.com with a 30% PG-70% VG mix. The VG makes juice thicker, but you don't have to go 100% to get rid of the PG harshness. I've tried 50/50 and it's pretty good.

Go to wal mart and get yourself a bottle of VG hun. The bottle I have is made by sunmark. It just says Glycerin USP on the bottle. It's next to the rubbing alcolol and add about 7 mls of your liquid to 3 mls of the VG. It will lessen the nic mgs but hopefully make it vapable till you can order and receive some VG mix liquid. I had the same problem from too much PG and this helped. If you go too high in VG you will lose your TH so don't get too carried away if you are a TH lover. Also I find that too high a nic mg does the tight chest thing to me as well. I cut mine from 24 mg down to 20 with vg and it works great. Hope this helps:) Good luck and don't give up.

I find with me that PG seems to irritate my throat and roof of my mouth, I use 50/50 and 20/80 and it works out. The smokers cough I still blame o my quitting recently, I am perfectly alright with it if it is getting all that crap out.

I have been off the analogs for 4 months. I had bronchitis like symptoms for 2 years before quitting analogs. At the 2 month mark I still had most of it so I thought it was the e cigs as well because I thought after 2 months it should have been better right? Well I asked the DR about it and he said it may take up to 6 months to go away. At 3 months I realized it was getting better and now at 4 months it is about 70% gone so I do believe it is slowly going away. I guess 2+ PAD for 20 years was a lot for my lungs to heal from. They do seem to be recovering well now tho. I just thought someone else may have the same thoughts I did at 2 months and this post may help them out.

To the origional poster. Woops, I just read that you have prefilled carts. Get some VG anyway and put a few drops in each one. It will mix and still help. Try buying the blank carts next and fill them yourself with a VG mix or 100% VG liquid. I really thing PG is your villan. If not than your nic mg is probably too high.

If you only smoked 2 to 5 cigarettes a day, the 12mg may be too high. I smoked a half a pack a day (not lights) and my higher nicotine level juices are 11mg. Most of the day I use 6mg, the higher levels are for the morning or whenever I don't have time to vape very often.

I made mistakes on nic levels when I first started out. I got my cartos in 18mg. I just about died trying to vape them. They were impossibly harsh, but then again, they were also 100% PG.

lots of good advice here as usual! Will check out wal-mart to dilute my current carts, but i suppose i made the mistake already when i bought all my starting gear about 2 weeks ago (volt kit, + 2x samplers) i have since been told smokeless image uses a 100 pg mix so i've got all these carts and.. well. damnit.

I ordered some juice from madvapes as i was told that was 20pg 80vg to see if that helps, and also a few 50/50 from ecblends, as both places have a nice interface, solid prices and more flavors that i can make sense of.

I had not thought about the repair process..... I have been totally off analogs for about a week or more, so not terribly long.

I hope i can find a balance between flavor and what i can tolerate comfortably.. i enjoyed smoking immensely even though i controlled my intake, and REALLY want to get a similar flavor and mouth feel to my brands of choice (winston light, nat sherman natural light) so i don't have to worry about buying a pack in frustration... I hope the coughing is just a temporary process and not related to the vaping experience or i am going to be bummed out.

So Calif
Been vaping a year and 5 months. Used to smoke 2 cartons a week for the last 20 years of the 55 years I smoked.

I started at 12 mg nic juice and it was too high. Moved to 9 and it was better. Found out I had a sensitivity to PG in juice went to a 50/50 mix. Any higher than that in PG and I itch like crazy.

I started hacking up crud out of my lungs at about one month off cigs. Your lungs need to clear out all the years of accumulated crud cigs put into them. I hacked for about a month, perhaps less and it stopped. My lung capacity is much larger now and I feel great.

Adjust your nic and your PG levels, hack your head off. It all comes out well in the end ;)
