Let's talk about heat transfer.

I'm using The Big Dripper (TBD) on my King.

http://thebigdripperrdta.com/

Lots of good solid metal. It always gets hot, even when using on my old (broken) KBOX. But the KBOX stayed cool(ish).

But now, TBD AND the mech get hot. The mech gets hot towards the top where TBD is mounted, and is noticeably cooler towards the switch end.

Do I have a problem? Or is TBD transferring heat to the mech simply because there is so much more big metal involved with the mech?

It's vaping great, that's fo' sho'!

Thanks!

OK, did some testing with a vape session.

I got the heat where I said it was before, took the battery out and it was just a little warm. But this was a complete vape session, so I've reached nic satisfaction and put the mech down for a while. This is my normal mode of use.

The battery wasn't warm enough to alarm me by any means, even with my inexperience.

So, just heat transfer seems to be the majority opinion.

Pass/fail?

Thanks!

PS I'll try the 'gap' trick.

One more question:

I just built a 28ga build and after dry burning/shaping, I checked it again with the meter and it said 0.4ohms.

On Steam Engine, that draws 10.5 amps, but my Samsung batts have a C-rating of 8.8 amps.

BUT, Steam Engine also says that my Amp Limit Headroom at those settings is still 52%.

Did I briefly exceed the C-rating of my battery when pulsing for the dry burns? Or am I still way under the danger zone? Should I chuck that particular battery?

Battery: Samsung INR18650-25R.

Thanks!

Check out Mooch's blog for extensive battery tests. You'll see that the 25r is a solid 20amp battery.

Where were you guys a few days ago? I got the mech today and have been happily vaping for the past 3 hours. No, not chain vaping, just puffing away as usual.

@BadNinja
The King Clone is working great. Took it apart and cleaned it for safety, put my first mech-built coil dripper on there, and it rocks. I'm vaping at 1.2 ohms, dual coil 28ga and loving it. Others may chide me for using those specs, but I'm liking it and not exceeding the C-rating on the battery. Still on the first battery, too. Dunno how long it will last, but it's kicking IMHO.

Thanks!

that's almost exactly what I wrapped today on my manta; looks like it must have come in just under 1.2 ohms though, because my kicks wouldn't fire it so I put it on my gp paps because my paps has a recessed fire button and I can leave it standing without worring about the fire button.

That's one thing you have to keep mindfull of with most mechs, the bottom switched fire button.

Fortunately with the king, the made the lock ring hexagonal which makes it easier to rotate

after a while, you can sometimes find that the coil area heating up is like a warning beep to add more juice;

as for the gap thing, I wouldn't do that; better to adjust your topcap to snugly lock in your 510 connector and leave it there imo.

Ok, ordered that baby. 88eVape is only about 75 miles from me , so that means it'll probably take longer to get it than if I ordered from the east coast. LOL.

Actually they ship really fast.

They also have a working phone number with a living human on the other end if you have any problems.

I got my King mod clone today. For a $15.00 mod, it's very nice, it's no thin walled light weight. It has a nice heft to it, and has a smooth button. Haven't tried it yet, want to get it all cleaned up altho it doesn't look like it needs it. I will be cleaning the contacts and coating them with Deoxit Gold, and the threads with No-Ox-ID lube, before firing it up. :) So far, I'm very pleased with that 15 dollars spent.
