guys, does anyone knows/remembers where is the video of the person that was making tight microcoils without burning the wire?

We have to show this method to all people before they damage their health permanently

I know the video you are talking about but for the life of me I can't find it. basically the person wrapped a coil around a pole then took another small piece of metal and put it under the last wrap and spun it around the original pole up the wrapped coil which re wrapped the coil but compressed it in the process. I've done this a bunch of times and it works well.

yes it is Ariel. Its a nano coil if we want to be more spesific. Thank you very much for posting this. We have made so many things that I cant really remember. But I remember now that you posted the video:)
Excuse this off topic.

As the microcoil theme was touched some posts ago, I remembered about this video:

Isn't this a microcoil?
(from minute 3:53)

Do you remember those old days Imeo? (Jun 20, 2011)

even if I dont have the right results with cotton (its just me maybe), I prefere cotton archimede just because I believe that its much safer than silica WHEN IT DOESNT GET BURNED. The opposite happens if it gets burned, so cotton has to be saturated all the time.:)
Imeo, this is what i will do, too. Thank you for informing about the oxidation. I like vaping with mesh with a mcrocoil but after all i read on the topic i will quit mesh, stop torching and dry burning my coils. I will try titanium wires, too. Thank you very much for all these information. Maybe it is not the right way but what do you prefer/think for silika or organic cotton for wicking instead of mesh?

Thank you Ry. I am really trying for the best here together with you and all the other people on this thread. I am sure that no one has bad intentions, we are a team here.
I've been following this thread for a couple of days now and I've really enjoyed it :). Kudos to you Imeo for sharing your concerns and for doing something about it.

I sometimes use SS mesh in Genisis attys. Not too long after I started using this stuff I learned about the dangers of hexavalant chromium. I'm no chemist, but from what I gather that can be produced in small quantities by heating the SS up to red hot and it takes only a very small quantity inhaled to be quite bad for us. That's one reason I stopped torching my wicks and the only reason I am so careful to not overheat the mesh when I pulse out shorts. It is also the reason I figured out a way to take out the wick before dry burning the coil. I then wash the unrolled wick in water, roll it back up again and slide it back in. The process works quite well for me.

I also found the data Borescoped included in post #193. The slightly different wording there and some more reading I've done on aluminum and titanium oxides makes me think titanium oxide is a bit safer in that you would have to inhale more TiO3 to harm you. OTOH, from what I've read about exposure levels that may have caused harm to people in the past, these oxides are a minor concern compared to hexavalant chromium.

Now I have no idea if hexavalant chromium is produced by heating Kanthal red hot, but I believe it can be produced by overheating SS and that leads me to think it can also be produced by overheating Kanthal. I believe safe exposure levels of hexavalant chromium are at least several orders of magnitude less than the oxides in question here and the health consequences are more serious.

I don't know if hexavalant chromium can actually even pass through the oxide layers on these materials. So basically I don't know anything for sure and I know how much the 'devil is in the details', just wanted to toss in my thoughts. If anyone knows more about this stuff and can help educate me, please post (or PM me) :thumb:

In the meantime, titanium wire sounds like a nice alternative to Kanthal to explore. I see no negatives so far and there may well be a few good positives to it. Works for me ;)

Someone said in a previous post they thought we had a chemist (or something like that) on ECF. The Name 'Kurt' just came to mind.

This is my 2 days simple coil titanium 1 ohm (goes to 1.2-1.3).
15ml of Waldmeister liquid in 2X2mm wick (don't trust cotton... sorry)
No dry burning at all and I didn't test to "light" my coil in the beginning. I put 2-3 drops of liquid and then I push the button!!
Just want to show you how clean is my resistance Ti wire.
Nothing else

They are no springy at all, maybe the opposite aal. As you may know, everyone says and knows everything these days lol. So dont believe what you hear. At least on GG forum you always have serious information

You know that we must not torch, oxidise or burn our wires, its unhealthy buddy

These sound amazing Imeo! Where can we purchase these? I'd love to buy 100 feet now! :p I'm a big fan of lower-resistance wire like Nichrome, Gplat, Hotwire etc., and a safer alternative would be amazing!

I used to be a machinist, and have a passion for titanium, it's one of the most amazing metals on the planet, I hadn't even thought of it for heating element wire! Thank you so much for sharing, if you have any links/info, I'd more than appreciate it! :D

Hmmm so if I like 26 Gauge Kanthal I should be getting 31 Gauge Titanium but it will be approx. half the diameter? This would work well for dual coils or should I get 26 Titanium and do approx. 3 times as many wraps? thinking about coverage!
I think also we should consider the thickness of the wire and not only the coverage because very thin wires are not good flavor carriers. I'm thinking of twisting the wires.

my opinion is to use the same width of wires and just make longer coils. That way you will have more heating space

aal, thinner wires of nichrome or kanthal give worse taste because they have small coverage on wick. You dont have this issue with titanium because its coverage is double. But for even better taste to my opinion, use the same width as you used with nichrome and make longer coils. That way you will have the best of both worlds
