"Tongue Hits".. Who does 'em?

I didn't really "get" this for the first few weeks of vaping.

Now, however, I'm enjoying "tongue" hits as much as throat hits.

When you are drawing on your PV, instead of your tongue resting in the bottom of your mouth like it would while smoking an analog, try placing it almost directly over the airspot, where the vapor emits from the mouthpiece. In my case, it's a single hole 901 cart on a 501.

Then try moving your tongue and putting a different part of your tongue on the airhole. Not BLOCKING it, mind you, just being a tiny bit over it, so the vapor hits almost directly on your tongue first.

There are different taste buds located in various areas of your tongue. Placing a different part of your tongue near the intake gives a whole new taste than earlier draws.

If you haven't tried "tongue hits," you're missing out. :p

NEAT illustration!!

Even the tiniest shift, like from the right side of the tip of your tongue to the left side of the tip, makes the flavor really stand out.

I think this works best with nicely flavored juices. For the harsher stuff like Camel, etc., maybe not so much.

I'm vaping Nuport right now. It works really well for a sweet and chilly tongue hit. Try alternating right side/left side.

Possibly, I may need to get out more.

LOL, experimenting in college... nice!! Seriously, I've been doing that since like day 2, and do it all the time... much more flavor... ANOTHER thing that seems to enhance flavor is to let a little air in out of the corner of your mouth... dunno why that works, but adds to the flavor in a very pleasant way... just kind of let some air leak in around the cart/mouthpiece as you drag in... try it... maybe it's just me, but works for me every time... combine it with a "tongue hit" and I get heaps of flavor, even with little vapor.

I have been one of those slow starters who envied all of you who could say 'I haven't had an analog since I got my ecig'.

I did the tongue hit thing accidentally a few days ago, and it's making all the difference in the world.

Sounds a little bit naughty, though, doesn't it? :p or maybe I should use this one: :pervy: lol

I thought this old theory was proven wrong? Thought that taste buds are pretty evenly distributed.

Funny you should say that as I was eatinig some sweet bisuits at the time and I definately though they tasted sweeter at the back of the mouth.
It seems they are not exclusive to the tongue either.]

Collings found that all tastes can be detected anywhere there are taste receptors—around the tongue, on the soft palate at back roof of the mouth, and even in the epiglottis, the flap that blocks food from the windpipe.

I expect this is the 'throat hit' most people speak of!!

I have been doing this lately too... Although I do it cuz I think my tastebuds are still too weak to really get the flavor from my RY4 and this helps.

and exhale through your nose , everything you perceive as fruity , or floral , or whatever is "tasted" in your nose

You know, when I smoked analogs, I never exhaled through my nose. Couldn't handle the burning nastiness... When I first started vaping, I found I really enjoyed exhaling through my nose as I could taste the flavor better. It's like that whole "plug your nose when you eat carrots" little kid thing. You really do need your sense of smell to thoroughly enjoy your sense of taste!

Everyone's to be commended, as this thread had great potential to go straight to the gutter!

I agree with Tony on letting a little air in to vary up the taste too, as well as exhaling through the nose sometimes.

Part of the ticket is to draw in very lightly as you're "tasting" the smoke with the tip of your tongue. This is so different from smoking a cigarette in so many ways. You hit a cigarette because you need it. You vape because you actually enjoy it.

Oh, yeah! And for me, it helps cut down on the dry throat, too.

When I first started, I was so frustrated because I couldn't taste what I was supposed to be tasting. I can remember the exact first time I pulled in with my tongue right in front of the little hole and then blew out my nose. It was a revelation! That was the moment I knew I was going to do this forever.

I hear that a lot from other people. I think part of this is because your taste buds only slowly get rehabilitated after stopping cigarettes. It isn't instantaneous, but they do actually start 'waking up' after a week or two. Maybe that's why I didn't notice the tongue thing at first.

Michelle, how long have you been vaping? :pop: (ok, I just wanted to try that emoticon... popcorn, lol... nice)

About a month and a half. Tried it intermittently before getting really committed -- my boss had bought a "Smoking Everywhere Gold" kit with some delicious tasting Pomegranite cartomizers and I was trying them, thinking "I might be able to do this..." So I found this forum and did a lot of reading and wound up with a 510 -- now he has one too and has retired his SE rig.

Also, I could swear I've seen Buttered Popcorn somewhere as a juice flavor... :)
