My 2 cents...but I am kind of surprised that no one has mentioned the most important thing about the Provari...

It's been on the market for a good while now and so has proved itself in terms of build quality, reliability, customer satisfaction and Provape customer service.

The Lavatube has been around for less that a year and was being cloned in less than six months.

Personally, I was encouraged to see a major player like Smoktech get into the Provari clone market with the Vmax - and now the Zmax - and hope that they will prove themselves over time.

They aren't doing that well so far :)

I spent $54 on my Lava Tube. It has a one-year warranty. If it breaks within the next year they give me another one free. If it lasts me a year and then breaks I think I got my $54 worth.

A year from now we'll probably be one or two generations removed from my Lava Tube and your Provari - there'll be a whole other assortment of devices that are the new standard.

No argument there. Had I been able to afford a Provari as easily as a Lava Tube I would have chosen the Provari. What I (and many other vapers) are faced with is a limited amount of disposable income such that we have to prioritize and look at "bang for the buck."

A $200 lighter is better than a 79 cent disposable lighter. But I'm not going to suggest everyone who needs a lighter buy the $200 lighter.

I agree with your decision. The Provari just seems a little expensive for me right now I cant justify the price. If it was $100 for a complete kit I'd be more willing to accept it. The Vmax is a slightly better deal at that point.
I can understand the need to take care of your devices, no matter what it is. I've never dropped my PV, so ruggedness would be a low priority. I would be using the lavatube at home and my vision spinners out and about.

Also, as you said these are more or less the first wave of devices. next year when that warranty is out, you'll have many more choices.

$54 is a steal for the kind of power you get.

I have the provari and zmax, i like the vari watts of the zmax, hard to give credit to smoktec being a die hard provari fan for over a year, but i like the build and features of the zmax and reach for it just as much as my provari, lavatube had about 5 of them as my backups and that i gave to friends, yes they are covered for a year but does everyone feel like sending them back?..i got sick of it, even the lavatube 1.5 was crap...make sure u have a backup to ur backup when using lavatubes as ur daily vape..
