When one has trouble trapping leads is it due to the wire being too large, the screws needing to be replaced, or user error?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rounded screws is quite possible. And that would make the problem even worse with larger wire sizes. If no replacment screws, a smaller wire might be a stop gap :)

Clone cuss words don't work for me. I like to use the authentic ones.

One of my mom's favorite sayings was "pardon my French." Never could understand why she credited the French with those fine anglo-saxon epithets!

Ya gotta knock the bottom out of it first!

Makes building an rda seem even easier! ;)

Either that, or do a single wrap around the screw before tightening it.

Our friend "Q" provides us and non-vapers another informative video... check it out...

Thank you SO much, CG. That was (again) a phenomenal Qorax vid! (Shared, big time)

Wish I could cuss. I just dropped my brand new tank in the sink while rinsing it and broke the glass. I'm upset because when I've changed the glass in the past (putting on more colorful o rings), the seal is never the same. There goes $18 literally down the drain :(

 and  !!!

Great oogly moogly... I just rebuilt a nautilus BVC... definitely a learning curve there... mostly finding "alternative" profanities around the kids.

I'm not sure it's worth the trouble and I'm not sure I want to do that again. Under $2 is looking mighty cheap right about now.

Rebuilt it with a nickel coil and it actually works. Not terribly impressed though.

Someone posted a video of how to do it with a hammer and punch. Very easy to got them completely apart.

It's in one of my Vika tanks already. I should have taken pictures. Maybe if I'm feeling masochistic, I'll do another one.

What a pain in the ashcan. I used a cotton pad and did a vertical coil like original. That cotton is nearly impossible to wrap tight around the coil and get it all back in the base.

OK.... ok.... I'll talk about it...

After the fantabulous, yet VERY busy weekend, Stepdot and I needed to make a resupply run up north. Our resupply runs take us nearly due north about 70 miles (about an hour and a half) for broom shop supplies, and then we circle about 30 miles south west through a slightly larger town (there's another vape shop, a Hobby Lobby, and it's NOT a dry county [we live in a dry county... no inkyhol sales occifer]) before coming home. It's an all day affair, and we normally leave at 10 am and return at 5 pm (unless we take in a movie, and eat dinner at our favorite Thai or Chinese joint in which we return closer to midnight).

Today, I work up - with a slight sinus headache - to the sound of rain. Sigh... S'okay, we've made the trip in the rain before. Before leaving, though, I have to open up a store downtown. While opening, my relief calls and tells me that the storm knocked out his power and he had no alarm clock. Sigh... S'okay, we've had late starts before. Then Stepson calls and says he's been called to a meeting in the town we're headed to... he needs to tag along.

Note here... Stepson is 33, quit his corporate job and moved home to "get his bearings." That was 6 years ago. We found out shortly thereafter that he quit his job because he lost his license and could not longer commute. He lost his license because he forgot to follow up on paperwork when he moved last and was without insurance. For the last 6 years, we've had to chauffeur him everywhere. Recently, he got a new job... I'm quite proud, to be honest. However, when he applied I asked - point blank - is not having a license was going to be a problem.

"No. I'm part of a board. Every meeting I have to attend will be attended by other members of the board, and I can catch a ride. No problem."

Big problem...

Sigh... S'okay, we've had him along in the past.

At every turn, my relaxing "day off" resupply run turned me into errand boy.

We got home at about 8 pm, and I am tired and more than a little irritated.

Oh, yeah, and on Saturday, he calls as I am on my way to work and says "I forgot to grab ice. Can you bring some to me." Problem was, he was in a kiosk behind the town square. A town square that was roped off for about a mile in most every direction for the annual parade. It took an additional half an hour dodging parade goers, road blocks, float line-ups, and driving back streets to get him his ice. Made me late for work!

Back on topic... I got vape mail :) But the vape shop has a smaller inventory in the store than I have at home, so I purchased nothing new, there...

I had a mass of pics here somewhere.
Remove pin, insulator and old coil/wick The casing comes off leaving a little core. I use a little punch to push out the core rather than pliers to pull of the outer casing. (i tried pliers and I crushed the threading.) once you have the casing off the first time its easier.

I us fasttech prewound/wicked coils with Nr-R-Nr The NR legs stop the insulators melting. I remove the silica wick and rewick with rayon. I then wrap mesh around the core instead of cotton (don't like cotton)

Pop the outer casing back on press to secure and install in tank to vape.

Excuse the meat mallet but its my main inside mallet. There are a lot of ways to remove and replace the cover. I do it this way beause it had the least chance of damaging the components

Here's the video for beating it apart and back together...

LOL I can't take all the credit I found the original on youtube and then just setup my own process. I recoil all my aspire BVC coils (nautilus and non nautilus). they are horizontal though.

What about the cotton on the wick holes? That spot that has the grooves. Very tough to do.. mesh sheets might work?? Just an idea.

Krisma, I'd be interested to learn how you do that. I love my Nautilus tanks, what I don't love is buying coils for them. I've rebuilt them before but vertical coils and rewrapping them are a pita that I'd just as soon avoid.

Ok I take the casing apart.
Recoil horizontally the same way you would a protank coil
then I wrap a small piece off mesh around the little inner casing. This replaces the cotton gauze wrap. I use 400 mesh because i use high PG if you are using high VG then you need bigger mesh.

Let me find the pictures of the baby BVC coils its the same concept

I got some tips from this post from @choochoogranny , among others. There was a long discussion about it in some old thread but I can't find it any more.

Older Folks and Vaping Front Porch - Part Four

Never tried doing one with a vertical coil. If you do a horizontal coil you don't have replace the outer wick wrap since the wick in the coil comes through the holes. And you can rewick without replacing the coil.

When you put the 2 parts of the head back together make sure that the prongs on the bottom part cover 2 of the holes and leave the other 2 unblocked. After you've done that once and removed all the original wicking material you never have to separate the 2 parts of the head again, you can recoil them from the bottom just like you would a PT head. I suspect that if you separated the parts a lot they would get loose after a while.

You also need to try to block the two holes you aren't using for the new wick, or juice can leak in through them and give you flooding problems. That's kind of hard. The only way I've found that works is to force small pieces of wick into the holes with a dental pick. You don't have much room to work with. I wish there was a better and more permanent way. Maybe there is and I haven't found it. Someone did suggest tapping the holes and inserting small grub screws. Sounds tricky and I haven't got around to trying it.

What I've found with the horizontal coil method is that the result isn't quite as good as the stock coils, and they have to be rewicked frequently. I'm still experimenting with different coils. The best one I made had a 1.2 ohm coil, almost as good as stock. A friend installs vertical coils and gets really good results but it sounds difficult.

You can rewick them but it's not as easy as a PT coil because the coil is hidden inside the casing. Choochoo says the silicone PT insulators can be used to replace the ones on the Nauti heads.

All in all, for me, it's a fiddly job and the results aren't as good as stock, but they're still pretty good once you get the hang of it. I put up with the disadvantages because I like tinkering. And apart from the cost savings, it also makes you future proof in case they stop selling the things.

So, authentic o rings don't have the problem of not fitting the base? If so, I'll order some authentication for the stash as these have become my primary use tanks. I still love my eggrolls and amor tanks but I'm also quite fond of the STMs (funny how I keep making different juices to accommodate more tanks so my rotation is getting bigger and bigger!)

@VapeLuver, well missy I think that we warned you. It's an addiction, buying vape gear. You picked the best forum for enabling! I broke a Kabuki tank over the weekend, rolled off the arm of my chair, used the grabber to retrieve it, and crunched it. And boy did I swear. 10 authentics ordered :-x.
