Yes, it's a metallic deposition coating originally developed for the military. Not necessarily fancy, but ok, fancy works in terms of its aesthetics, but I am not in agreement that it's just a fancy marketing term.
It's an amazing finish, and like no other. Nearly (very close to) unscratchable. Only a diamond can.
